[OOC]This is an ORP for everyone in Lorelei's family. Feel free to have your characters come and go and interact however you please! MK and I are making this thread to make sure everybody gets all the family RP they want - though of course you guys can still RP outside this thread. ^_^ I'm always open for 1 on 1 RPs. You don't have to follow a post order, but it's kind of recommended? Ex: You're RPing with your brother but Lore and Soro have posts that come between you and your RP partner. As long as you're not interacting with the parents you can ignore their post order for the most part. Just use your own judgement. ^__^ List of PeepsLorelei :: Post Style (Sergeant Sargent) Soro :: Post Style (MoonKitsune) Grendel :: Post Style (Sergeant Sargent) Eldrid :: Post Style (MoonKitsune) Mihr'Senka :: Post Style (Uta) Buru :: Post Style (Kaimi Kalani) "Lešapšana" or Lulu :: Post Style (Split Personality) Gramma Sao :: Post Style (ShinosBee) Next post will be a description of the den. After that, you're free to RP! [/OOC]

Your family’s den lies on ground level overlooking the main river that flows out of the pride. The river’s current is a constant sound. Cubs are allowed to play outside on the grass when adults are watching, but not allowed to swim in the river where the current is swift.
Though the den should be large enough to accommodate the family most of the space is taken up by Soro’s beloved collection of bones: zebras, wildebeest and gazelles, almost all of them belong to prey beasts. You are not allowed to remove the bones without Soro’s permission. As far as you know they’ve always been there.
One corner of the den is without bones. Here, Lorelei keeps her herbs. They’re spread out on an animal skin and covered with a second animal skin to stop curious little paws from fiddling with them. You’re not allowed to touch her herbs and especially not allowed to eat them. Lorelei is extremely protective of her wares, almost as protective as Soro is of his bones. Outside the den, by the river, is where Lorelei does most of her healing. You’ve seen her work sometimes.
When Soro brings home fresh bones mice and insects sometimes find their way into the den. Most of the bones, however, are old, but mice are still a fairly common sight. Cubs are encouraged to kill them or use them for hunting practice.

Lorelei lay just outside the den, her dark coat soaking up the sun while her tail patted the ground in mild annoyance. Her ears twitched, listening to the activity of her family, if they could be called family, as dutiful as if she had a rhino at her front and a cobra at her rear. The scars from the day she told Soro about her pregnancy had long since healed, still visible but just barely, overpowered by fresher wounds. Long ago she hoped to weather these troubled times with few scars.
Perhaps Kiuma would have wanted her pride to show their scars with pride but Lorelei had no pride to spare for wounds inflicted by a tyrant. She still called Soro “master,” never mate or father. She only submitted because of how tired she felt. She was a mother now and though she preferred to escape the trails of motherhood whenever possible her cubs still managed to sap her strength. There was no semblance of family in Soro’s den. Lorelei didn’t even pretend to care for Soro or his sons. She was nothing if not honest. Honestly, she was a prisoner.
Back in the den, Grendel was lying on the floor sharpening his teeth on a bone. This was alright – it was his bone, not his dad’s. Soro gave it to him the other night. Grendel wanted both to horde it and break it open so he could see what was inside. Nobody had told him that there was marrow inside bones, but Grendel was observant enough to gather that there was something tasty inside because grown-ups were always breaking them open. Unfortunately his baby teeth were too soft to do the job. He was already considering finding a big stone and using that to break the bone.
Indeed, Grendel was smart for his age. Though he grew bored easily his head was so full of ideas that he felt like it was going to burst! Thanks to his father, Grendel had a habit of taking his boredom out on his sisters.
Of course Grendel thought nothing of it. Even when his sisters tried to tell him he was playing too rough he didn’t believe he was really hurting them. Girls could be so overdramatic. They only cried because they wanted to get him in trouble, which showed how stupid they were, because his father would never be angry with him unless he really hurt them, or so it seemed. Grendel had yet to test how far his torment could go. He liked the feelings of power he had over his siblings.

Lulu felt almost the same as Lorei did. She sat beside her, quietly observing the cubs with gentle softness of a sister. Of a friend. Almost like a mother at times. She knew she had to keep these cubs on their side. She kept to the girls's sides and made sure they were alright and in secret, told them the truth when she could. The boys, she didn't even try.
She sat with her legs tucked up under her and with half lidded eyes.

Mihr'senka loved her home. Though she wasn't quite as clingy as she had been as a newborn, the dark furred cub was still young and still possessed some innocence. It was through her great naivety that bitterness, remorse and regret stayed at bay; she didn't know what other families were like and therefor had nothing to compare her situation with. As far as she understood, love was shown in many different forms from the rare lick and cuddle to scratches, bites and blood. The latter seemed most common and though it hurt she knew it was just an expression of her Father or brother's love.
No, Mihr had yet to bend and break. Her heart was still too pure and Soro had yet to fully corrupt or manipulate her. Only time would tell what Mihr'senka might grow in to . . . while a quiet bitterness and anger seemed to possess Lulu and Lorelei, the little cub was immune for the moment.
Who knew though when it all might change. . . ?
Certainly not today though! The little one paused in her game of hunting mice, taking a few moments to watch her brother gnaw at a nearby bone. Games were a rarity as well, and Mihr'senka spent much of her time making pretend friends - Grendel didn't often like to play and when he did he was very rough and hurtful. Besides, she also understood that she was a female and should wait for him to ask to play. . . . it was her job to serve, right?
Then again, Lulu and Lorelei sometimes spoke differently, of things that she also believed. Unfortunately, the little one was having trouble appeasing both parents. . . .She didn't understand the hatred between Mother and Father; that was just how families were.
Trotting happily up to the entrance of the den, careful to avoid Grendel so as not to disturb his own game, the little cub hesitated. A squirming mouse was in her jaws, a gift to both Lulu and Lorelei. . . . She hadn't killed it yet, (it was her new bestest-best friend ever until she'd decide to eat it) and she hoped her family might be proud.
It was a small accomplishment, but Mihr'senka wasn't the most adept of hunters yet. Her poor little brain got far too distracted and her body far too anxious and squirmy in such anticipation. Lingering by the entrance, she danced from paw to paw with a bright smile on her features, waiting for someone. . . anyone. . . to acknowledge her.

And naturally Lulu noticed.
She happened to gaze over at the cub, only because she loved them. Loved them like they were her own cubs, as strange as that was. She was barely past cubhood and she was already taking responsibility. Perhaps it was the missing of her true family. Who knew.
She lifted her chin upon seeing Mihr'senka with her prize. She smiled, bobbing her head. "Did you catch that yourself?" She asked softly, stretching out her front paws and dragging her claws across the ground. She slowly stood up, walking to her 'sister'

The warmth by her side moved. Lorelei tilted her head, watching her daughter with one half-lidded eye. She wished Lulu would come back to her side. During these dark days the little white lioness's company meant worlds to her and she would rather have Lulu by her side than one of her own cubs. They hardly felt like her cubs. She never asked for them.
Suddenly she noticed something dangling from Mihr's mouth. She shifted her weight, chin rested on her paws.
A little mouse. The poor thing was still alive, too. Lorelei watched it squirm and sympathized.

Lulu!
Practically beaming underneath her 'sisters' attentions, the little cub scurried forward so she might bridge the distance between herself and the dual-toned lioness. Unfortunately, she wasn't the brightest of cubs.
"Oh I di---" Speaking her response, she dropped the little mouse and it quickly took advantage. Darting between Mihr's paws, the little one tried her best to pounce and recapture it, but alas, failed. She pounced a few more times, desperately reaching out to swat, but she was still too clumsy and the little rodent too fast. It zipped away and disappeared in to a pile of bones she wasn't allowed to touch.
Staring for a long moment, her little chest heaving, Mihr'senka realized her error. She should have set the mouse down and held on to it by its tail with her paw, or at least given it a few shakes to knock it out or snap its neck. Now her bestest-best-friend was gone and her present to Lulu and Lorelei was vanished. . . .
Lowering her head, she slunk back to where Lulu and Lorelei waited, staring hard at the ground as she fought a spring of tears that threatened to consume her. Her eyes stung, her throat tight. . . . This wasn't how it was supposed to go at all. " . . . . it . . . it was a present for you both. But I guess it's. . . it's gone now. . . " She whispered, voice cracking as she came to a rest before Lulu.
She didn't dare look up at Lorelei or her older sister, not wanting to cry but also feeling horrible she lost her gift to them. "Mihr' din' mean to lose the gift though. . . ." She added a bit defensively, not wanting to get scratched or bit as punishment or laughed at either. Surely her brother would get a kick out of her failure.

Lulu looked up to Lorei and smiled slightly. They had a special bond, her and Lulu. Both stuck in this place together without family, only what they had. She understood her... she could rely on her. She looked back to the girl and beamed. When the cub spoke, she gave a small squeak as the mouse scampered away with Mihr's paws. She looked over at Soro and hoped he didn't see.
She snuggled her 'little sister' against her and made 'shushing' noises. "There there.. it was a wonderful and thoughtful gift to give your Mommy and I... You will be a wonderful hunter someday Mihr!" She said encouragingly. "I wasn't a good hunter either... so you are on your way!"

Eldrid was chewing on a twig. It was both because she wanted to gnaw on something and was hopelessly bored, but because the bones that she had were both broken and things she didn’t want to ruin any more. They were the leftovers she was allowed to have, permission given to Soro who would usually throw them aside, disliking them for one reason or another, and would say the girls could have them in a offhanded manner that meant he could care less what they did with the trash. Still, they were bones, and while not as pristine as her brothers’ collections, it was still hers. If Mihr wanted to share, but only because her sister slept with her and kept her warm.
As of now, their milk teeth were gone and they were flexing tiny claws and chewing here and there. Hunting was in their blood, especially for young females, but she lacked the confidence to go pouncing on the little mice that went about. Part of her always assumed these too were owned by Soro, and she would have to look up at him to make sure she was allowed to chase after them. Of course, all of this was done without too much noise. The sound of his cubs laughing and having fun often annoyed him, and he would send a growl through the den that would silence them all.
Holding the stick, she watched her sister catch and than loose the mouse. Her eyes flickered to Soro, who had his back to them as he laid distant on the other side of the den. He had just returned from taking a dip in the river, something he seemed to enjoy, and was laying on a smooth rock among his piles of bones and skulls.
Slowly rising, she padded over to her sister, quite, wanting to know what was going on. As her sister failed, Eldrid dropped her stick and pawed against her sister. “The mice will come back. They always do.” It wasn’t like her to pep anyone up, as she often hungered for other people to cheer her up, but she could tell her sister might be on the verge of crying, and that would really upset their father.
“We can find a fatter one?” One that would be better. “..you should show daddy when you catch one.” Since their father said they were used for hunting, showing him might make him happy. Father, Sir, usually never smiled.

Soro was tired, having spent his time roughing up a few females and then scouting. He felt the den was holding in his energy and he would grow rusty otherwise. It wasn’t in his nature to be in a den, with females, in one place for this long. The allure of having cubs had long since worn off, and while his sons were growing up nicely, he wished they would grow faster. He forgot how long children took to become adults, and he insisted his sons grow up faster in mind in hopes that their body would follow. To make them killers with his mind, his legacy, would be a grand feet and better yet, having two males that he could order would give him power. The female and her damn brothers, her damn hyenas, the group who had taken over the pride here during the takeover, all had the power due to their number. While he could take in the rewards, he didn’t want to be a underling to a female. In fact, he felt that that female should have been put on the bottom of the ladder a long time ago. Her and her damn dogs.
After going off to kill a few small creatures just for the sake of running fast and testing himself, he dipped himself in the water. So much water here. It always was a marvel to the lion who grew up in the desert, and rested. The den was noisy, even with his presence, and he felt he was becoming more and more restless, more and more bothered, and more and more unable to sleep these days. This often resulted in a few swipes here and there, but as ruler, he always had an excuse. You’re too slow. Stay on your toes. Never walk into my path. Know your place. It was all too easy, and they more or less removed themselves from his sight or moved away.
Turning, he rolled over now and opened his red eyes, looking over to his children. The place reeked of wet male fur and females. He was unused to it. It was bearable enough with Lore, but intensified with three more females and his two sons who still stank like cubs did. As his eyes lingered, he noticed his meek children. His two sons who had taken his lessons and worked hard to please him. They took his word as gospel and tormented the girls and mother when he was not about. It worked well when he wanted to go out and let them in charge to keep them in line and also to report what they did. Extra eyes were valuable to him. Then there was his daughters. Mihr, energetic and easy to mold. Eldrid, timid and easy scared. Again, easy to control. Lore, who forever would be a thorn on his side no matter how often he beat her and threatened her. It was the children that kept her from revolting, and he often wondered that, now not being pregnant, if she would try running, attacking, or killing the children. At least the males, as females stuck together. Horrible lot.
And then there was Lulu. She was growing up nicely. The little cub was already growing into a young female, and her watched her haunches from time to time, wondering. The look was further intensified by the fact he had yanked his mask off, leaving it beside him and under one paw as he held it to his side, the skull of his own mother, and he curled his claws into the empty eye sockets of the skull as he watched them all.

Lorelei made no effort to catch the poor creature. Let it keep its freedom while it still lived. Her children would probably capture it again soon. If Grendel got a hold of it, it was doomed for certain. The first born son already had his father’s killer instincts. In fact as she was thinking this Grendel suddenly abandoned the bone he’d been playing with and pounced at the mouse, but he missed and knocked over some bones instead. She smiled behind her paws, secretly pleased. He should fail at everything. That would make her very, very happy.
She stretched and padded over to her daughters. “You did your best, Mihr,” she murmured, glancing up to see if Soro was watching. “And you even caught the mouse on your first try. That’s good for a cub your age. Just remember to think before you open your mouth next time.” Gentle criticism.
Grendel glared at the crowd all gathered around Mihr. What made her so special? She was just a dumb girl. They were all just dumb girls.
Whatever. He didn’t need their attention. He would just go play with his dad. Soro would pay attention to him because he had the gods’ blessing, just like his father. He stuck his tail in the air and sulked over to where his father was resting. “Bleh! What a rotten love fest. If I stood over there for one more second I woulda probably lost my lunch. Girls are way too sensitive, right dad?”

Grendel’s father perked up, his attention taken away from some deeper thought to look at his son, smiling at his antics. “Sensitive yes, but watch out for women in large groups. They side with each other, become a tight group, and can be dangerous. Later, I might teach you how to use their sensitivity against them. It’s sometimes easy to break them apart, and trust me, you want to make sure that women never form groups like that. It’s very bad. They start to think they can live on their own, which they cannot. It’s up to us to remind them that they are dependent on us.”
Soro stood up, shaking his body as a few red hairs floated about, and then sat up, leaving space for Grendel to take if he wanted to near. “What have you been doing? I see your sister hunting, but that does not mean you should practice your hunting skills. You need to grow up into a strong fighter."

Grendel nodded eagerly. He soaked up his father's every word like a sponge. His father was right about women. Grendel always saw his mother hanging out with Lesu and his sisters tended to stick together, too. So what his father said must be true! "I have been hunting," he exclaimed excitedly. "Mostly just lizards and bugs. When I get tired of that I get Lesu to pretend to be the prey and I hunt her. She's bigger than me, but that doesn't matter. Then sometimes I playfight with Buru."
Buru was alright for a playmate, but sometimes he wished there were more boys he could play with. He went to his father's side and lay down beside him, paws tucked under his body, gazing up at his father, his teacher, with admiring crimson eyes. "How come girls want to think they're better than us?"

Soro brought down a large paw upon his son’s head, ruffling his hair before setting it back down to his side, taking his mask and moving it before him to roll it between his paws. “They grew up here. This pride was once just filled with women, and when women are together, they come with stupid ideas. They thought it would be best to not have any men here, because they did not want to work and do their duties. They sent all the men away and lived together. Like I said. Women stick together. If you leave them together to talk and come up with ideas on their own, they will naturally come to evil thoughts. It is why we must look over them, put them in their place, and punish them when they do not do what they are told. If we don’t, they will do bad. You have to watch over them, Grendel. Keep them in line. Your sisters will be lead astray by the other women if you let them talk with each other for too long without coming in to correct them. Keep them busy. A busy female has no time to think these evil ideas. Send them on errands. Make them do things for you. It’s what they are there for.”
He rolled the mask over to his son to roll back, feeling midly playful. “You should hunt your sister. She’s bigger, which will train you to be stronger. It will also keep her in her place. You are doing good in hunting. I’m proud of that.”
