Does every band have a perfect mello section? I'm pretty sure that's the stereotype for them, that they're perfect. I mean, my BD is a pastor, and he treats those girls like gods. He doesn't hesitate to listen to any of their opinions or thoughts.
On that train of thought do you guys have a shitty section too? (baritones, baritones, baritones.)

Nahh.. not really. We have a small mello section. And the only one we ever really listen to is the oldest, Clay, who's only a sophomore.

our mello player is sooo annoying she always thinks she's right about absolutely everything but she NEVER is and she's always counting out loud while we march to keep us in step, but she always counts out of time!
most of the band wants to punch her after every practice lol
and to think next year i'm running against her for drum major...

Our mellophones are usually right, they just sound terrible. Same with concert band...sort of. XD
The freshmen mellos are godly though. One wrote out Sandstorm for a stand tune, it was unanimously approved by EVERYONE. : D

AHEM I AM A BARITONE PLAYER AND WE ARE LIKE THE BEST SECTION IN THE BAND KTHX! lulz. There are 11 of us and we over power the 30 trombones.
Our mellos are pretty kick a** too, and like only a quarter of them play horn. The rest are like assorted misfits like harp and piano majors.
But yeah, mellos pretty much are amazing. We had Silverado arranged for our band and the mello part is ridiculous, they are gonna have fun.

Hmmmm. I almost want to say that we're the opposite. It's kind of like a joke in our band that Rees (our band director) will never compliment the horns. But that is probably because they have the section with the most people who have switched instruments. Generally we have at least 5 of them in the horn section because there aren't enough at the beginning of the season so they switch during band camp.
And...I don't think we have any "bad" sections. Pretty much every section kicks butt. The trumpets do have toruble staying set and are usually the last section to come to attention when we're called to "set" but other than that I don't think we have too much trouble. At least not with any section. Just individuals within sections and they get their act together pretty quickly.

We have 3 mellos, all learning it for the first time this year. They aren't bad for their first year, but they also aren't good. I know at least one isn't doing horn for concert. I'm curious to see how that switch goes. Horn to basoon. Oh yeah, and this is the first time I will have a basoon in my band(love them. My grandpa's fav instrument.) And then one is a trumpet switch and the other, well, I'm not exactly sure what she played originally question She switches every year.
our worst section would probably be trumpets or percussion. Trumpets not because they play too loud like most do. No, ours play too quietly. rolleyes My BD calls it plastic wrap over the bell. He says it sounds like they put a piece of plastic wrap on the bell of their trumpets and so sound wasn't coming out. Not usual to tell a section of about 10-15 trumpets to play louder. One fo the main probs with percussion is they don't know thei music and play too loud. Most of the time they are in the front of our band, and so they are always being told to play quieter when closer. I don't blame them personally though. It seems a bit difficult to do dynamics on percussion. And the pit tends to have troubles with the rus they stole from the woodwindsXD Oh, did I mention pit stole our parts? Yup. Our music and drill arranger cut out some measures(especially for woodwinds, though nobody plays in the perc feature except 4 measures and 3 notesXD) and put them as pit parts. And what I just said about our perc feature, Hoedown, is not exaggerated. We literally play 4 measure(A 16 count move.) which is only 2 notes in a repeated rythm, and then the last 3 eighth notes(same note) Now all we need is the percussion to clean up their part of the music and it will be fine, but for now it can make us or break us. Not to sound llike I'm bragging(forgot the real word. I keep thinking conceided), but our woodwinds are pretty good this year. We are playing a chorale where it is basically woodwinds, mostly flutes and clarinets, at the very beginning for 20 counts. We keep getting compliments about it from judges. Our BD keeps saying not many bands would try something like it, because it is slightly dangerous, with it being so unprotected. Like, in normal music if you make a mistake, it isn't heard nearly as easily as if you make a mistake with quiet, woodwind music. Luckily it is only about 3 sets, so it isn't long enough to completely kill us.

I switched back to trombone because the baritones were so bad, and I didn't want to be associated with them. I might play it next year, since we'll probably have more good trombones next year.

We only have one mello, but he's pretty darn good. Our band only has 12 people in it.
Our crappy section happens to be drumline. Cocky and can't keep a tempo.

I Am One... I Don't Think He Listens To ONLY Me Like A God... I Think He Does That With All Section Leaders. We Have A Small Mello Section, Of 4 People. There Really Annoying Though Try Being In The Section And You'll Believe Me
