well i personaly tryed out the microphone in a crew to help some people out with OMGWTF, and personaly i dont think it helped all that much. and it was a little weird to talk to the air without anyone else responding... i still need to find someone else that has VOIP so i can see how it works out that way,...
so far things seem alright... a little weird... but still ok... and it remains as an option and not a mandatory. though i fear many crews for EB will want VOIP people to make the battles easyer.
uh well this is long, but...it's to clarify my reasoning:
by mandatory i merely meant the voice masking only should the microphone be used
i have amicrophone/earphone combo piece for my DS, and even with it, over wifi the static is so vivid voices are masked effortlessly others may say that is annoying but for me i believe it's for the best
as for why: i feel partial to defend anyone who helps me several times but if they want their privacy then thats what they get from me, a gaming set-up should mask the voice only for sakes of preserving identedy
in fact, a kid at my church told me about a person he knew irl before they moved, it was an unhealthy friendship but they both played the same games before and after the move, his fear was that he'd be online speaking and this bully-friend may go annihilate his PC for sakes of "old times"
thus in my acquaintance's eyes: a voice masker would avoid that,
and i agree i'd hate to get PKed one day just became i'm Me, thats pratically the same as saying they want -me- dead
and ZOMG is the prelim game to the Gaia PVP so...i have a point
