How do people in high school people survive! The eighth grade band was invited to play with the high school during the homecoming football game and let's just say I had an AMAZING time except I didn't play....everything was HIGH notes, and my weakness is high notes. gonk But it was much more fun than middle school game. But, people that are in high school in this guild, you are amazing for surviving! At least to me you are.... xp It was kind of emberassing though, cause everyone around me was perfect at playing so I was sitting here fake playing. Hopefully it gets easier by the time I get to high school.

xd I can almost gaurauntee that as long as you don't give up, it'll be just as easy for you. True story: At the end of eighth grade, I was not a very good clarinet player. One summer through marching band, being surrounded by musicians that helped me, and etc, brought me to fourth chair during the school year.
May I ask what instrument you play?

Haha thank you. But it will come to you, I was like that too when I was in middle school and was first confronted with the high school show. We did the Virtruvian Man. It was horrid by any standards but it was terrible from my prospective..I had to look up all the fingerings...

I'm a freshmen, and I remember feeling the same way last year, but you're going to learn evrything you need to know in band this year, promise! I have a weakness in high notes, too. I'm a flute. Our third production goes up to really high A's. I freaked out. Don't worry, just hang in there. Vindictive Desire, how many a's is your band? I'm a 2a... We're really small but it's still fun.

Honestly, if you do it, if you just keep trying, it will become easier. I'm a freshman this year and I remember my first week of band camp this past summer....oh, god. It was bad. I kid you not, I went home after practice once and I cried. But, I kept at it, and now I am a decent marcher. I'm sure you'll do fine. =D

In eighth grade, I was an okay-playing upper chair(long story that i won't get into now>.>) and then I got to highschool...The worst is our fight song. Highest note clarinets can play, and the lowest note is E(topmost line on staff. ) Now, I can almost play it, and high notes are now pretty easy. I'm a sophomore, by the way

Haha it takes work to get there. Half of being an awesome musician is LOOKING like you know what your doing, then all you have to do is play like you know haha. As long as you stay confident you'll be fine, and be just as great as all the highschoolers you saw (probably better cuz we're lazy haha)

And I've cried 4 times during the school year! my band director freakin hates me I swear. He yelled at me for taking care of someone's part who didn't know what to do at contest! And the guy told me to do it!!! It was sooo weird! On the other hand, we won! yessss heh... I haven't had much sleep... That contest was last night...

After band camp, you usually get the hang of it, so dont worry. I think everyone goes through that thought process of how they are going to do it. idk, it just kinda happens, but it takes practice, and you have to want to be able to do it. That and if you are nice to the upperclassmen, they'll help you out usually. as much as we enjoy hazing, if your nice, we do help. :]

That contest was last night... yeah, i have definitely have cried more than once from the sheer shock factor of some pieces. but all you can do is slow them down, and practice, once you get the music down slow, you can speed it up, and then your okay. but yeah, sometimes everything gets so overwhelming and all you can do is cry sad

I too knew nothing when I started the flute in 8th grade and yet when we were told in high school we had to play at the football games it was a little scary, but it just grows on you and you learn so much heart

Our school is small, so when you get in Jr. High (7th and 8th grade) you're automatically in High school band. So at our school, when you're in 5th grade and you want to join band, 5th grade is when you join. You stay in elementary band for 2 years until you're in 7th grade. I remember when I got into 7th grade and it was my first time in High school band. I only played clarinet for 2 years before that ssoo yeah.....it was nervewracking. But now I'm in 9th grade and everything is AMAZING.
Don't worry! It gets so much easier!!!
