So I realized today that I have a lot of weird stories from my band, and rather than post up a bunch of different threads, I could make one large one for any and all stories we as band kids may have!

I'll go find some of my older ones to post here biggrin

Epic Sousafall!

My band practices every Tuesday after school from 3 o'clock to seven o'clock and we started setting part three today. Well there's this little pit where we Sousas have a section solo. So we all break out of our wavy block/arc thing and go over to where colourguard has set up these large flat boxes. Well, we decided to put two of them on top of each other to even out all of our heights. It as actually really cool.

Any way, to make a long story short, the boxes aren't really secure when they're stacked, so one of our little freshmen sousies goes to jump off the box to get to his next set and the one on top slips out from under him. Well he lands on both feet but half runs the next five to seven yards trying to regain his balance before falling forward and hitting his head against the bell which hit the ground (and dented)

So, while two of our sousies are running back to their set, Cody (drum major) and I (who is out of marching due to a broken toe) run over to help Shawn (who fell) (Our section leader had to leave earlie so he could write his senior paper or something 'important' icon_biggrin.gif) Anyway, Cody and I are laughing and we eventually get the sousa off of Shawn. Cody takes Shawn to go sit down and I grab the sousa and his music/sets and go over to wait for him to calm down.

Turns out, he hit his head pretty hard and dented the bell /back/ into place! But apparently he was crying a little because he was so embarrassed. ((Back story time! There was this girl named DC who played Sousa and graduated last year. She was so unlucky and always fell with it or dropped her mouthpeice off the bleachers)) Anyway, he was so embarrassed because he didn't want to be the new DC.

We eventually got him up and at it again. He got a drink, grabbed the Sousa and headed back out... Brave little toaster...

As a band, we have pretty much voted it the most epic Sousafall ever! And Cody just keeps telling him "At least it wasn't a game or competition..."

First Competition!

So, on thursday, most of our band left for Disneyland (California) About 26 of us where left one of which was me. Friday was an incredibly lax day (we watched The Sound of Music and most of us hid in the Greenroom).

But Saturday was the best!

We where slightly squished on the bus because a bunch of people wouldn't move to let our five colourguard members who didn't go have a seat so they where put in the back with us (Sousaphones and Trombones). I doubled up with the other Sousaphone who didn't go and all I can say was it was a long two hour drive to Prescott.

We where there first but about five minutes after we got there, the rest of the band showed up (in charter busses with TV screens I might add). I have to admit, seeing the band reunited after three days had to be one of the most beautiful sights I had ever seen. Everyone started hugging their buddies and sectioning up. It was amazing.

Anyway, we competed and got an Excellent (A high achievement since we had a good last week). We where watching the other bands and my section leader was describing his time in disneyland to me and the other sousa who didn't go. (Side story: it was national gay day and he had like five guys hit on him icon_biggrin.gif)

We got back to the busses and had pizza and snacks. I grabbed like eight rice crispy treats and decided I was gonna annoy everyone on the bus ride back and get super hyper. So, I eat four really quick and started to feel the sugar rush but it wasn't until we where back on the bus that it really started.

I'm not gonna get into detail, but let me just say it was a bad ride for anyone who wasn't me. We got into a "That's What She Said" battle (I won) and kept everyone else up. When we got back to the bandroom I did a bunch of cartwheels (cuz it was still empty).

Then the rest of the band kids came in and the Sousas where last to leave, like always. Then i started to feel bad cuz I was getting to be totally out of character and I started back talking my Section Leader. Luckily, I was able to explain to him (with backup from my seatmate) that I couldn't really help it.

All in all, it was a fun competition icon_biggrin.gif

OH, by the way, technically this was our second competition but I didn't get to march last week's because I didn't know the music. I had to stand on the sidelines *cries*

The Gospel According to David

Ok...so there's this guy in my band that I'm madly in love with. He's an amazing trumpeter and he will be drum major next year. But we all love to pick on him.

Anyway, we're in our last hour class, which is jazz band for everyone but me (I[;m in drama but I leave to go hang with my band buddies). I walk into the greenroom to see David (the trumpet guy) rolling around on the floor with Cody, or DM (see first story). Anyway, they soon fill me in on the fact that Cody stole David's class ring and David is trying to get it back. So this kid named Aaron (not my section leader, if any of you are familiar with him from previous stories biggrin ) decides to pull out his phone and record David 'raping' Cody.

Eventually, David gets his ring back and leaves. So this other kid named Tyler enters with his guitar and we're all just hanging out and we start to tell him the story. So he starts messing around with his guitar and all of a suddon comes out with these lyrics:
"David raped a dude,
Who was sitting on the floor.
That is why I don't go
Into the greenroom anymore..."

So we all start laughing hysterically and in about ten minutes, this little verse has turned into this huge epic idea. So all ten of us are sitting in there randomly throwing ideas and stories around and Tyler's just turning it all into lyrics. So we're all working on it and shoving out random stupid things he's done int he past and we're all writing a song about it biggrin

It's gonna be amazing and we're gonna record it and play it for him at his birthday party biggrin I'm working on the piano line. Ah...good times...*sighs* band kids...

Before band one morning, my friend(Bari Sax) and me(flute) hid in her locker to see if we would fit. Now, us being freshman, the very hot percussionist, who happens to be a junior, got the idea to lock us in there. He got a bunch of his drummer friends, since we had already exited the locker, they wrestled us and forced us back into the locker, we got locked in.

The assistant band director expressed his curiousity as to where we were to the drum line. They denied everything. He looked over and saw us in the locker and laughed. He walked over let us out then made jokes about it the rest of the day. It was funny.

The bus ride to competition. My friend and I sat next to very hot guys. They were very intensely flirting with us and kept taking our phone because we had to pretty much lay on top of them to get them back. They enjoyed it.

My freshman year band trip. Our BD told us to put all of our instruments in a specific spot in the trailer (we have a music trailer, not a room, because our school is annoying, but we love our trailer anyway) so they could get packed onto the bus. So, I did just that, even though my gut told me to just pack it in my suitcase.

We get to competition, and everyone's getting their instruments from the bus, and lo and behold, my flute isn't there, along with a senior girl's flute. Me and her were like, "Dude. WHERE ARE OUR FLUTES?"

Our BD was like, "Where did you guys leave them?"

And we were like, "RIGHT WHERE YOU TOLD US TO."

Turned out, the IDIOTS in the percussion section responsible for packing the bus left our flutes on the shelves in the trailer. Luckily, the senior girl's sister (who's in my grade) and another freshman flute volunteered their flutes to us on the basis of "You guys are way better than us anyway, and we need you. We're probably not going to play anyway." I felt really bad because they didn't get to play, but they really didn't care.

I was a little upset that I didn't get to play Teresa (my flute) for my first high school band competition, but eh. I learned. And from now on, my baby travels with me, and I always know where she is at all times. (Actually, I have a new baby now, her name is Penelope. She's open-holed.)
