Learning about being a Parastar made the young red cubs head hurt. He really wanted to be a good one and please his future mistress, but at the same time, he loved him self SO much. Was it so wrong to love ones self?
Noel frowned as he padded along, completely confused about the talks he had gotten about his duty. He could love him self AND his mistress , couldn't he? The cub chewed his bottom lip.
A bright colored flower distracted him from such depressing thoughts. The perfect accessory for his mane! Noel , literally, skipped on over and picked the thing as fast as he had seen it. The red cub fashioned it behind his ear and struck an all to practiced pose.
The flower looked good on him and Noel knew it. So he posed, and posed and posed. You could almost say there was a bit of a sparkle to the way Noels eyes as he posed in front of no one. Wrapped up in a world of his own.

 Hidden in the shadows, a dark shape shifted its weight, opening a pair of bright green eyes. After another one of her long morning walks through the Tarka clan Kissy had tired and fallen asleep under a shady tree, unaware that her dark coat was swallowed up by the shadows. Some of her family called her a little ghost because she was always vanishing.
When she saw Noel prancing about like a pretty butterfly, Kissy couldn’t help herself. She burst out laughing. In fact she laughed so hard she rolled onto her back and kicked her little paws in the air. “Oh my gosh! You look so silly!” she laughed breathlessly.

The fact that a dark little lioness had been near by the entire time he put on his little show had not crossed his mind. It wasn't until the female burst into laughter did Noel stop, and slowly scan for the source of the laughter.
Green eyes came into view first, then the rest followed. How long had she been there? Noel frowned.
"You don't think I look handsome?" After a moment of frowning he just had to ask. He though he looked pretty spiffy, specially with the flower.

“Handsome?” Kissy giggled. She rolled onto her tummy and paused to catch her breath. Sometimes she laughed so hard she thought her heart would explode. She crawled out of the darkness with a cheek aching grin. “I don’t know. What’s handsome?”
Kissy had a peculiar way of speaking that some might find embarrassing. She was an uproar, thrilling and exuberant.

Noel really thought about her question, what really was handsome. After a while he just got bored of trying to figure this out and tilted his head at the female.
"I dunno." He took a seat and smiled, "I guess handsome means awesome and really cool maybe . All the things I am," He puffed out his chest proudly. "But.. Im not really sure honestly..? Its gotta mean something good. "
The lion got up and paced around the dark lioness. He'd never seen her before. He'd never seen anyone so dark, all his siblings cept him were bright vibrant colors.
"I like your look," He finally said after a while. "Its real... handsome~" The cub chimed. Really, Noel had no idea what the word meant.

Colors meant something important to their pride. Her mother explained it once. Lionesses with dull pelts did the hunting while the brightly colored females – they were Kissy’s favorite – trained to be the best warriors in the whole jungle and ran the pride. Middle colored females, like Kissy’s sister Kim, grew up to be guards. Even though she felt a little disappointed she’d never get to train to be a powerful warrior like her grandmother, she only worried about her rank because her mother seemed so sad. Being dark didn’t seem so bad.
Kissy watched Noel critically and held her head and tail up straight so she looked important. There was one other thing her mother taught her about rank. “Well of course! I am awesome and super cool. But you’re just a dumb boy,” she teased.

Noel frowned and opened his mouth but closed it. The cub wanted to shoot an insult back but he remembered the talk he had with Liza. Females word was law and no arguing. Besides, he was sure his mother would have his hide if he started an argument with a girl.
So instead he said, "Im more handsome~" and strutted. Yeah, Noel wasn't very smart to understand in a way he just off handedly insulted the girl.
Poor clueless cub.

Fortunately for Noel, Kissy was not the sort of female to take an insult personally. Even when bright females made fun of her she always felt they were making fun of her coat rather than the cub inside of it. She was too proud to be cut by their sharp words.
“No way! I’m ten times more handsomer than you! Watch!” Kissy stuck one paw way up in the air and walked forward, putting a sway in her hips. She strutted around Noel like a drunken ostrich. “See? Everyone knows girls are best at everything. But I’ll be friends with you anyway. I don’t mind dopey boys. My name’s Kisikusiku. You can call me Kissy for short.”

Noel watched as she strutted with an extra sway in her hips. She was right though, girls were technically better at everything. Who was he to argue with a female? Noel shrugged.
"Suppose you're right," He gave her a charming practiced smile. Little did most people know, that smile really was pretty dim witted.
"Nyarai, but you can call me Noel if you want. I like Noel better," The cub puffed out his chest proud of his name, "You can be my practice mistress if you want. Liza says one day I'm gonna have a mistress and I have to listen to her... I don't know, something like that. The speech was REALLY boring and I kept daydreaming .... But I think if I had a mistress, she'd be over come with how awesomely cool I am and we'd totally be best friends and pick flowers." Noel nodded, made perfect sense.

Was this boy really offering to be her parastar? That was a little weird. Since they were in the same clan Noel was probably one of her cousins. She wrinkled her nose. How disgusting! At least it was just for practice.
“Why would I think that?” she scoffed, rolling her eyes. The truth was she didn’t know what to do with a parastar. Her father never set a very good example. He ran off a short while ago and broke her mother’s heart. What a stupid parastar. He only brought shame on himself by leaving. Kissy hoped he’d be reborn as a toad. She tilted her head at Noel and arched a brow. Having her head turned at a ninety degree angle didn’t diminish her stern expression. She wanted to be a tough mistress.
“I guess you’re kind of pretty. It’s important for a parastar to always look his best. But that doesn’t make you awesomely cool,” she said in a dopey impression of Noel. “What can you do that makes you so great?”

Noel smiled, "I can make you things and give you presents? And ... ummm" Noel had to think about it , there were so many reasons he thought he was awesome, where to begin?
"For one, I'm super handsome. You already know that though, for two, Im pretty fashionable. And third, I'm just SO amazing its like unreal." The cub nodded. Made perfect sense yup.
"Sides.. I need practice," He took a seat on his haunches and studied her with his gray eyes.

Kissy pressed her lips together tight. She wanted to laugh at him, but then again she didn’t. She really wanted to be a serious mistress. That was probably the reason why her mother let Vestip run away. If Kissy wanted to keep her parastar she would have to be more serious than her mother. She spoke meticulously to stop herself from giggling. “Okay… if you think you’re so fashionable, then I order you to bring me something pretty. It has to be really pretty, too. Not just any old colorful flower. Really pretty.”

Noel liked that order! He could do pretty. He loved pretty after all. Something that wasn't a flower was going to be tough though.
" I can do that easy, " Noel nodded, okay now to think of something. She wanted really pretty. The cub looked around . Hmm, leaves and flowers and rocks and ....
Okay he needed more time, ".... This is hard," he pouted, " I don't see anything right now and my head hurts from all this thinking. Pretty boys don't need to do all this thinking." The cub continued to pout.

Kissy had to agree. This part of the jungle wasn’t very pretty. She stood and walked over to him.
“Since it’s so hard for you to figure out, why don’t we go for a walk around Tarka? You can look for something pretty as we go. Also, while we’re walking, you have to say all the nice things you can think of about me and you always have to walk one step behind me, so everybody knows you’re my parastar. Got it?”

Finally something to put his parastar skills to the test. The lion smiled and nodded.
"I like being your practice parastar, for one the names got star in it and for two umm... You have pretty green eyes!" He nodded. He had to say nice things right?
"Also you have really spiffy wing markings. You probably have some kind of super hero lion powers from being so dark, and my butt kind of itches..." Wait he hadn't meant the last part. Noel covered his mouth. Even though he was practicing, you never dishonor a female... or something like that? He didn't really remember all that speech Liza had given him. It was all blurred in his mind along with pretty rainbows.
Rainbows were cool.
