I've seen this game on sale in the UK, but it seems to've been rather... shall we say... overShadowed by the US release of a certain title for the PS2.

Has anyone picked it up and/or gotten around to playing it yet?

I've read many reviews which appeared to like it, and reaction on forums is strong.
If I could afford a DS I would've got a copy, but...

I took the almost unprecedented step of entering a competition on Sega City (I think) for a copy of Sonic Rush and a DS to play it on. Till then, what Xag said. I'm saving my money for a Revolution...

Samwise, what did you think about the music? I've heard mixed things about it. Since it was done by the guy who did alot of the JSR music, I'll probably wind up liking at least some of the tracks, but, y'know.

And I actually want this game more than I want ShTH, because of the whole "preferring 2D Sonic games" thing. Though I'll probably end up liking ShTH too.

And I have read that some people think that this game rivals S3&K in quality.

The music is a real highlight of the game for me as I love the JSR style stuff. Alot of the music is on the official site, it'll give a good idea of what you're in for, it's quirky and full of psuedo-lyricy stuff (cartidges still can't get full audio it seems, lord knows how Square managed to put the full version of Simple and Clean on a GBA cart, but it was a one off), it's HIGHLY repeatitive, but not to an obtrusive degree, it's the type of quirky muzak that sinks behind your conciousness (which I assure will be VERY occupied every moment of gaming) and just adds to the experience.

During the final ending there is a very sweet little song to go with the moment that deserves much respect.

My personal favourite is the level 7 boss theme which sounds like a bouncy remix of "She Had Long Ears" from NiGHTS with a female voice doing the Eggman laugh to musical effect (if that makes sense, it sounds very good and goes VERY well with the best boss battle I've played in a long time, I can't hype level 7 up enough for anyone)

I'm bias, but I love the music. Just wish it was longer. Some tracks feel like the same 6 seconds repeated on an endless loop.

I can't wait 'til I get my copy in January. gonk My dad ordered it for me recently, but since it'll be most likely sent around the holiday season, we expect the shipping to be considerably slowed down.

Remember how, in a Japanese preview picture featuring Blaze, there was some mention of "Sol Emeralds"? Was that aspect scrapped or is that still played into the story? If so, how? If that would contain some huge spoiler, I'd understand if you don't want to share that. ^^;

The Sol Emeralds are indeed a part of the plot, highlight the rest of the post to see how:

The game takes place on Sonic's Earth with Eggman Nega (White moustached alternate version of Eggman with old skool design) and Blaze arriving, our Eggman has stolen the Sol Emeralds and Blaze, guardian of them, has followed to retrieve them before the dimensional instability destroys both her world and this one (ala Sonic X)

Apparently the Sol Emeralds and the Chaos Emeralds are like magnets, they can be used to attract eachother or repel eachother and if they're brought together disasterous consequences will be met, which is why the "Eggmans" want them, however if they're held by people who understand and can control their power (Ie. Sonic in the case of the Chaos Emeralds) everything will be alright.

The plot is more focused on the characters, however, which is a good and refreshing thing smile

7 is the best thing I've seen in a Sonic game since SA1, the level itself and the boss battle.

It outdoes Chaos Angel? Really?

Played it, and I've enjoyed the game a lot. I'm not finished with it quite yet, but I'm quite pleased on how Sega did with this game. The music and graphics make you want to drool, and the game itself makes you feel like you're back in the Sonic and Knuckles era.

If you have yet to get it, I suggest you go out and get it if you've got the money. It's truely one of the best games I believe that Sega has made in quite awhile.

Plus I love Blaze. ninja Such an awesome kitty.

I'm yet another person who's held back only by the lack of a DS (guess we shouldn't expect anything new in the Advance series, eh?...), and most likely for a while I'll be waiting to hop on Mr. Sonic's wild ride (er...).

But hey, who knows...it took me about ten years after Sonic CD came out to finally play that particular title : p

3 weeks in, and I'm a day or 2 away from having all "S" ranks for every level except the ones which don't show up on the scoreboard, which equates only to the last and extra boss for both characters.

The game becomes alot more managable if you play it the way it was intended to play, which involves you keeping your finger firmly jammed on the DASH button while hammering B after hitting a ramp/spring and using the R-Tricks as need be. Now I understand what Sega meant when it was non-stop thanks to the tricks. You seriously seriously need to keep your nerve ends on fire to keep up with it as you're managing 4 buttons, 2 screens and insane speeds.

Needless to say this takes a long time to master.

After familiarising yourself with all the levels, what shortcuts there are (some of course being open only to Blaze and her amazing R-Trick boost skill) and which places you can get 5000+ on your tricks combo, then you're rolling.

If you're the type who wants to keep improving their game until they achieve perfection, this is an amazing game, especially if your reactions are up to scratch. If you're easily irritated at rails killing you or missing the same shortcut 8 times in a row because you're going too fast, then perhaps you should stick to something slower. The speed is the best and worst part of this game it seems.
