The hadiths are by Prophet Muhmmad (PBUH).

Hadith are pretty much "advice" written and said by the Prophet(PBUH). They are the teachings of his way of life and serve as a guide to our way of life. For example, there's hadiths about fasting, wudu, etc. You can find a hadith about pretty much anything.

I don't think the hadith are written by the Prophet (pbuh), they all start "According to so and so. . ." then it goes into an anecdote about the Prophet (pbuh), his family, or close companions. They are basically advice, reccomendations, and methods of conduct. There are 4 books of Hadith that are considered to be the most authentic, but it'll take me some time to find the titles.

Hadith are sayings BY the prophet (PBUH) himself. Trust me.

The Hadith is a record of the sayings, actions and accounts of the Prophet Muhammad PBUH as narrated by his companions (including his family members). Each hadith has a chain of narration: Whenever the Prophet Muhammad PBUH says or does something, and a companion witnesses or hears it, he later tells someone else, who tells other people, who tell other people... etc. A few decades later, some scholars, such as al-Imam Malik, Muslim, and Al-Bukhari, compiled these oral traditions into books. They would go around and investigate each hadith's authenticity.
The Hadith was originally an oral tradition because the society in the past was for the most part illiterate.

That was what I was trying to say. sweatdrop What is the fourth most authentic? I see the first three are listed.

Talking about fake hadtih, I was trick once by some non-Muslim who pretended to be a Muslim. Well, I chat using YM. Kinda piss me off though.
Can you imagine, she said the hadith says "keep your wealth for yourself" and I laugh to death, and start to doubt about the person faith. So I know she's trying to lower my faith. =P But failed.

_rainarai_ Okaay....but what if it's faked? what if muhamad never said what's written in Hadiths? Sadly, that does happen. You have to be really careful of what source the hadith came from. The authentic ones have gone through a very lenghthy steps to make sure that they are accurate. The four most authentic hadith are: Bukhari, Muslim, Malik and Dawud. Yay, I finally found them. biggrin

_rainarai_ What is it exactly? and who wrote it? Ahadiths are accounts of Prophet Muhammad told by his closest of family or his Sahaba. They are the main examples of the Prophet's Sunna. These accounts are compiled by several imams of that time. Muslims have to be careful when using Hadiths b/c their "chains" (the people who narrated the Hadith) could be weak or have bad chains. The most soundest are Bukhari, Muslim, Dawud, and Malik. Hadith
