I dunno for a guild contest, what I have tried in my guild like I have an image contest every 3 months and the top 3 winners get a nice prize and their images displayed on the guild homepage, and everyone gets a prize just for entering also. I've also tried like monthly guild promotions where I give out prizes also. Some of those promotions included poetry competition, a solve the
math equation contest. To try to get people more active in the guild I tried a contest where the top 3 posters in my guild got some nice prizes. (This one got a lot of posting from a few people, however most of the posts made were spam)
sweatdrop Also I tried a competition to see who could post the most number of days in the month in a row, and gave out prizes for that.
I send out guild announcements from time to time asking members to make suggestions for what they would like me to do for upcoming contests, but I seem to get a limited response to those.
You could try something like one of those that I've tried in my guild.
I've also tried having some games with prizes also.

After the 2nd round which was sadly won not long after I started it, I felt I was just wasting money to do that anymore... so I discontinued that one.
You are welcome to try any of the ideas that I have tried in this guild if you would like. I really can't guarantee how successful they will be though. Believe me, there are a LOT of guilds out there that have the exact same problem of not getting members to be active.
I have literally tried everything that I can think of with my iCarly guild to get members more active. I've even tried having contests where people can win a copy of Miranda's new album Deluxe Edition which will be worth at least $15 + shipping when it comes out. Look at my guild, how successful do you think I have been with what I have tried?
