Does it bother anyone else that many people are so ignorant of the pagan faith that they will immiedently hate me when i bring up the topic?

I've never seen anyone hate someone for bringing up any of the different pagan belief systems.

I find a lot of people on first learning that you are a pagan are unaware of what your beliefs mean. They jump in and the first thing they say is that you worship satan. My answer to that is that in my path there is no such thing as satan, and that my path is an earth based one and yes I am polytheist, meaning that I believe in many Gods and Goddesses. I worship the changing of the seasons with rituals and that everyone should be treated the same regardless of what religion or path they are. I am not Wiccan though I am doing my first degree in Wicca as I believe that you never stop learning. I am a solitary, meaning that I practise my faith on my own, though sometimes I have a friend who joins me in rituals. I am proud to be a paganand have been one for nearly 30 years.

What is "the pagan faith", though?

I have not yet been in a situation where someone is angry or has some sort of bad feeling about me being Pagan, but I have been in a situation with people just getting angry that I am not a Christian. They say things like "why wouldn't you believe in God? There is proof of God, they even found Noahs ark. How can someone be a good person if they don't have this path to follow?" The last question is really what bugs me, people, alot of people, think that if you're non-religious, aren't Christian, or are part of a Pagan religion, that you shouldn't be able to understand what is wrong and what is right, such as stealing is bad or killing is bad, they think you NEED their religion for you to even know that. People are very ignorant, and should be more open minded.

Simple answer. Pagan faith does not exist. Pagan is an umbrella term for any religion that this not Judaism, Christianity, or Islam. This means that technically any irreligious folks would be classified in this category as well. I really think pagan being used to describe the various eclectic or reconstructionist polytheistic religions is kind of a misnomer and doesn't really say much about the religion other than that they are not Jewish, Christian, or Muslim, which doesn't say a whole lot given the amount of variety in beliefs and practices in world religions.

Even if we say "Neo-Pagan" instead, the range of beliefs and practices is still exceedingly large.

It is kinda upsetting to think that there are Christians who say those things or get angry that someone isn't a Christian (that's foolish), but if you worship a God everyone needs, then it's a good reason to tell people. It's equally upsetting to watch people shrug Him off when they need Him.

I would love to actually know more about paganism. The main reason most people reject and ridicule it is because they don't know anything about it in my opinion. If possible could you make a thread expaining paganism, or at the very least hit on the main points here?

I'm sure someone will try to take on the task at some point. The issue is kinda that there's such a variety in Paganism that there's either a great deal to say, or very little to say, depending on how you look at it wink because there are so few things that tie all Pagans together.

That's probably a very large part of it but also there's the fact that Christianity is for the most part a dualistic religion. So basically a Christian could still be familiar with the particular pagan belief system and know that they don't knowingly worship the devil but since you are either following God or being led astray by Satan then since we know the individual doesn't worship the God of Abraham as dictated by the bible then there is only one other option.

It all depends on the type of Christian and on how they see things in life.

Saying it like that makes it sound like Pagans do worship the devil. How i see it the God and the Goddess are two sides of the same deity and the Gods are just different faces of the masculine side of the deity and the Goddesses are different faces of the feminine side of the deity that Christians call God. So I guess from that perspective we all worship the same God [unless you're Atheist I guess]. Does any of that make sense?

Eh... I'm not sure how that works at all. In what way can Aphrodite be an aspect of Yahweh? What understanding of Yahweh has led you to the belief that other deities are aspects of him (rather than, for example, him being an aspect of a larger over-arching deity)?
