Okay guys, as you may or may not know, Tu B'Shevat(the birthday of the trees) is coming up. January 25th, in fact.

Please, share your traditions for this eco-friendly festival! xd I know we always send away for a tree to be planted in Israel, and do some cleanup around the city regarding trees. It's a fun holiday, and I pig out on carab. XD

We send money to Yisrael for trees too! Here is my favorite Talmud story for Tu B'shevat:

Once, when Choni Hamagel was walking on the way, he saw a man planting a carob tree. Choni asked him "How long will it take for the tree to bear fruit?" The man answered "Seventy years." Choni then asked him, "And are you sure that you will live seventy more years and eat the fruit?" The man responded, "I found this world planted with carob trees. Just as my fathers planted those trees for me, so too, I must do the same for my children after me."
(Babylonian Talmud Taanit 23a)

My Mom used to donate money to have a trees planted in Israel, but not so much anymore. She's been concentrating a lot on synagogue administration, doesn't leave much time for anything else.

Famusamu, you're absolutely right in quoting that Talmud story... I know the older kids at my school always read that to the younger ones on Tu B'Shevat. x3

I'm not jewish, but as an avid gardener, I like this holiday. heart I intend to honor it (in my lame, local way) when I have the moola and the yardage to plant trees, and I do believe carob does fine out here. ^^ Any excuse to plant things, after all.

Ah, I see... yeah, I suppose we'll go on Shavuot for my grandpa too, no matter the date(it hasn't been a year yet sweatdrop ). so I see how that can be tough. Maybe you can take comfort in the fact that your grandmother will be remembered on a day that so many in the world are doing good.

Sa-sama, have you tried celebrating Cliche Day, on November 3rd? ^^;
