I remember that under the old system, when I did a search for someone who was a non-member, it still showed the person and allowed me to block that person from the guild.

Is that still possible? We've got some people that are upset that their applications were rejected. We also are a critique guild and people get butthurt about the feedback they get on their art. We've had an issue with s gore spammer in the past (the account I blocked from posting). We're just trying to make sure we can block people before they start trolling.

Thanks in advance for the help.

No not anymore. Now when you search for a user who isn't registered with the guild you cannot take any action against the user. In other words if you're not registered with the guild then that name isn't going to pop up in your search. I tried it personally.

Oh, that is a scary side-effect of the new memberlist. O_O

Yea, meaning anyone could apply to join guilds even if there are users you don't like. So until the user joins the guild, Crew members cannot take any action against them. Also there are no more perma-bans. If a user becomes banned then that user can reapply to join the guild again.

Isn't that the way it's always been?
If you don't want them back, don't accept their request.

That is disturbing. We've had two cases already where we had to ban non members because our guild is and must remain a public guild.

I wonder why they changed that? It's terrible.

As far as I remember back before the first guild maintenance users who were banned from guilds could also be perma-banned after being banned normally.

I think we need 'dismiss' and '2-week no invite, no join request, can't only do either before end of the 2 weeks by the ban being lifted' and a 'banned until further notice'.

Or still a member but blocked from posting temp ban. (Hidden guilds could choose if they could still read or not.)

Yea but I doubt the Mods would actually do something like that since there are Captains out there who abuse their powers and ban users for no apparent reasons.

It is the captain's guild, Gaia moderators shouldn't care.

I was talking about giving that power to all Captains of Gaia. I personally think that would be giving users too much power to do guild members as they see fit. Cause then users would start complaining to Mods about being banned for no reason and would just annoy the Multi-Mods.

I'm pretty sure you have crewed/captained a guild longer than I have [2 years], but as far as I know, you could never perma-ban anyone from a guild. They have always been able to send a join request right after being banned. After a join request is declined however, they cannot send a new one for two weeks.

As well, I'm slightly confused with the main topic of this thread. I was under the impression that "Banning from public posting" only applies to guilds with a public forum. If you want to avoid trolls, I think your best solution is to make your guild's forum private.

For guilds that are for helping others or being a resource, public can quite easily become the best option. I'm sure there are other types of guilds that need it too.

Most Spam and poll guilds are usually public guilds.

Ya, those too. But if a troll got in and spammed bad images or something, the crew could only delete posts, not remove the offender, or really report them because they have to delete posts quickly.
