Our band, from Georgia btw, is a good band musically, but sucks when it comes to counts to march by. (And counts when the colorguard is doing a routine.) Well, the guard sat down and thought about it.
You southerners will understand, you know how our words are drawn out? Well, that's what's wrong with out counts!
"Onee, Twooo, thrrree, Fouurr.." Mehe... anyone else have this problem in guard or band?

Oh, that's nothing compared to having a senior who was NEVER on step!! It was even worse because he was in my section too...

haha when we counted things in class, our director would stop us from counting like hicks (from Texas btw). She made fun of us all the time for that but it does help if you count short.
Although on the field it goes too fast to draw out the numbers.

That really does make sense. I know that at the end of practices when we are about to pass out you start holding out your counts longer and you get off. That happens to our band A LOT and we are from Michigan. We are just lazy I guess..

Lol, I'm a freshman, and I actually AM a veteran. *Marched 8th grade* I'm one of the best people, musically. (Not THE best. There are some saxophones and trumpets that could completely destroy me.)
We have the most trouble in 7/4 time. We count everything staccato, basically. Except seven. "Sevvvvvveeeeennn." (From TN, btw. Except I'm from Georgia, so I have a better accent.)

most of us from the West don't have that problem, except if you're a freshman and drag your feet while marching backwards so you lose timing the entire show D:

Lucy the Imaginary Ninja I hate freshmen who think they are veterans. -.- AND they suck at counting. I hate veterans who think they're section leader. Seriously, we have a senior clarinet who actually yelled at the section leader for being slightly out of the picture when she was trying to correct someone and talking. Unfortunately, the kid who yelled at the section leader is one of my "friends", so I'm the designated to tell him he's being an a**. (Which I do anyway because he is an a**. I'm still trying to figure out why I hang out with him.)

To the above: I love your sig! It made me laugh! Mostly because I have totally done that, except it was in the somputer lab. My computer and a friend's from band were really close compared to the others in our row, so we got all OCD and spent most of the time trying to get the interval rightXD
I had the out of time problem last year, as a freshman. My section was always getting mad at me. Hopefully I can get it right this year though. I'm from the west, by the way, and I do't think we have much of that problem.
