Has anyone expierenced a dumb Guard instructor before? My guard instructor this year put two seniors in "charge". It was their first year and that made it really difficult for me to follow their "orders". Also one of those same seniors is in charge of winterguard. I'm thinking of not doing any more guard until next year. That's how bad it is. Anyone got any advice or wanna say something about their situation?

There was something that happened my freshman year. It was during winterguard. I wasn't there because the instructor, Mari, said that it was too late to join(grrr!!! stressed ). From what I heard, she didn't care what happened to her members as long as they got good scores. One of the girls dropped a riffle on her foot and it busted her toe nail and she was bleeding everywhere. Mari said that because she wasn't crying that she wasn't hurt bad...even thought she was pouring tourets of blood. Mari left (thank god!) and now we have Missy, Nathan, and Michelle! And now all goes well...

Our guard coach is never there. She graduated 2 years ago (when I was but a 'shmen) and we had a relatively okay season last year, but this season was downhill. She worked at her job a lot, and even when she isn't working (and I know when...we work at the same place) she's not there. We're baffled as to why. Being a captain, I, along with the other captain, are in charge when she's not there but the other girls push us away and generally disrespect our position. It's really annoying when we're trying to run practice and keep getting interrupted by the girls who want to be captain... It also doens't help that her best friend is in guard (a year younger than me) and currently rents out the basement at this girl's house. She tends to run a double-standard with her...the one that angered me (and the rest of the guard) the most was when she let her drink coffee in uniform...the new, pretty uniforms that we got last season. And she told us that if she ever sees us eating/drinking anything other than water in uniform she'd kill us. Uh, yeah, 'bout that... confused
I'm working towards getting someone a bit more professional. I have one more year, and I want next year to be better than this year has been.

Not sure if I have. But! Our "Avisors" are hipocritical and short tempered. You cannot tell them they are wrong in anything even if the entire team knows they are wrong. Our team this year is full of all this fake drama. (Like: you can't like him because I like him garbage.) I miss last years team, we were actually a TEAM last year.

Our instructor, Ms. Jobe.. She tried to turn us into ballerinas.. She always changed the years that she did guard. Well, she was always trying to make us into ballerinas and she always knew the correct name of all the moves that we did.. She made us do pleaes and carp.. thank god she's gone!

More situations that suck. See I'm a martial artist and well I work really hard to be graceful. I know I'm not the most graceful person but hey from going from 5 years of martial arts to dance/Guard/ballet I'm doing pretty damn good. But there is this girl on our team, she is now a capitain. And she is ALWAYS and I mean ALWAYS on my case for being in marial arts. Saying because of it I am not graceful and that I should concentrate more on Guard than Martial arts. (Yes I'll concentrate hard on Gurad but it is NOT more improtant to me than Martial arts.)

snow mrgreen ! hang in there we have one competition left. at least you know you're not alone sweatdrop . Well I guess i shouldn't really be here being a drummer and not a gaurd member so I don't know what it's like to have a guard instructor but my instructors are the guard instructor's husband and son if that counts for anything xd !

Wow snow.. sounds like she needs to get some brains.. I almost quit guard because it seems like it's all the stupid people who couldn't or didn't want to be a cheerleader.. makes me mad!! Growl.. Oh and now we're starting winter guard, our new coach is still putting the same senior in charge and we're finding all our info out thru the grape vine!!! We're supposed to have "Tryouts" and it's really strange... bleh

you are twirling your flag and you want it to ggo behind your head but it gets wrapped in your hair and stays there for about half the show and you cant get it out because your hair pins are keeping it there...that would be hell

Ya that would stink. My friend almost had that happen. We did a neck roll with the flag and the silk got wrapped around her neck.

what sucks is when during a performance another guard member steps on your silk and rips it off your pole so your stuck twirling a pole with no silk
