I know when I preform, I feel like I'm under a magnifying glass, and everyone is looking for something wrong. Don't think that everyone's criticizing you or anything. they are there to see you and they all want you to do well instead of thinking I'm here to play for you, you should get full of yourself and think they've come to here me (do you see the difference at all?) Its still hard to preform in front of people, but I find that when I relax, and stop thinking that people are criticizing me it gets a lot easier. Try preforming in front of as many different people as possible. Try and get yourself into concert mode when you do, so you can get used to being nervous and all the fun quirks it'll give you (oh god I hate it lol). Don't forget the people in the audience most likely do not know the piece, so if you make a few mistakes, but have a good recovery, they most likely won't notice. Also if by some reason you didn't do as well as you would have liked, don't complain after about how badly you thought you did. If people compliment you after just say thank you and smile, and don't talk about playing badly and then if you do play badly your more likely to pull off faking playing well.

Seriously though good luck! tell us how it goes, and make sure you practice playing infront of people!!!

Don't just play the music, FEEL it.
Don't worry about what others are going to think about you, just concentrate on the emotion that you want your solos to reveal.

Remember, music is not just a bunch of notes and rythmns. Its a link to peoples emotions. So, don't try to "overconcentrate" and accidently overlook that fact.

Doing this is especially easy during the climax of the piece, because you can become lost in the emotion that you're trying to display. This is a good thing because you can easily forget everyone around you except for the music that your playing =]

Haha I must sound like some fortune teller or something....

Just imagine you're by yourself.
Pretend no one is watching you, and before you go on to play your music, sit down, close your eyes, and imagine yourself playing it perfectly.

I would just say, lots of practice. Practice it like you want to perform it. If you're gonna be standing, then practice while standing. Just make it so that performing the piece feels as natural as possible. That way, as soon as it starts, you can lose yourself in the piece. You are focused on what you're doing while losing yourself in it's beauty and emotion. Don't focus on the audience but instead on what you need to do. I'm norally very nervous before a performance but as soon as I start, I'm so focused on what I'm doing and I'm so used to doing it that I forget the audeince is even there.

Hopefully that will help. Break a leg on your solos!

I think a lot of these are good ideas. i get really nervous in front of people too. My favorite things to do are: Well one, Do remember they don't want you to make mistakes or to critisize you, they want to cheer for how well you did. And little mistakes arent going to be picked up by anyone who doesnt know the piece. If by chance its a big mistake, just keep playing. Like this year a girl played a clarinet solo at our concert, and it was an electric keyboard and the pianist accidentaly hit the drum kit button but she kept playing, and even thought she cried, the BD made an award after her. anyhow.. lol. i also like to practice a lot, so if i do mess up, i know i at least tried my best. Just make sure you relax your shoulders and stand straight, so you'll breath better. Good luck!

I'm reallt shy, so of course I'm a bit nervous in front of large audiances or judges, especially with solos. My tip: don't b. Take a big breath, relax, and imagine yourself in the band room, doing a dress rehearsal. But don't forget it is a concert! Or, pinpoint your parents or a friend and if you glance out into the audience, look at them and nobody else. Usually, at my concerts it is so dark in the audience and bright onstage that you can't see the audience almost at all.
During my first solo last year, I got a chance to play for the school during the sc hool time and for the parents and such t night. Well, I did awesome for the school and messed up a lot dueing the night, though my now boyfriend came in late on his oboe solo that turned into an oboe/clarinet duet and then added flute for a trio.
So, imagine yourself in front of your friends, not a huge audience. Hope one of these helps!

ok, so.

Befor a preformance you'll feel anxious, and usually that feeling gets turned into nervousness. try to convert your anxiety into a positive feeling, be excited. people get to see you play! ( not all jumpy around WHOO excitment, just try to be looking forward to showin' off your skills, because trust me, it your BD didn't beleive you could do the solo's, you wouldn't have been given them)

don't think that you won't feel nervous ( butterflies or whatever) when your playing though, some of the best solo-ists get that ( I've done a lot of talking to people about this because I always get so nervous) just make sure you play with passion and ignore the butterflies in your stomache, I find that once I'm actually playing, the nervous feelings sort of dissapear, I don't notice them anymore, untill I've finnished.

fast air, happy thoughts, ignore the butterflies in your stomache and give it your all wink

ALSO! I assume from your name that you play the trumpet, so I'll say something else that I like to say to myself ( it's almost a joke)

Let out your inner Louis Armstrong!
