Rules The main shop rules apply to ownership and roleplay of the Porcelain Petpets as well.
However, these petpets are not nearly as demanding of your intellect and time as Porcelain are; they are relatively unintelligent animals, after all, and are more like accessories to your Porcelain characters than full characters of their own. Though they breed, they grow only from egg to adult (you can roleplay infant stages if you choose.) You also do not need to be on the whitelist to receive one.How to Obtain This is a tentative outline.
Whitelistees
Whitelistees can request free petpets whenever Setsushi's Status on the Announcements post of the main shop says that "Petpets are available." Just send in a Petpet Request Form to Rika, and if your request is accepted (which it may not always be,) you will receive an adult petpet.
Although it would be nice for you to roleplay finding your petpet -- did a portal from the Silver World appear and the petpet wander through? Or perhaps while your Porcelain was on a growth retreat she specifically tried to find a petpet like this one? -- it is not required for whitelistees.
Then, after obtaining an adult female petpet, a whitelistee can breed her, either with an NPC "mysterious stranger" from the Silver World, one of her males, or another player's male, with that player's consent. All eggs belong, initially, to the owner of the female, though she may be obliged to give some to the owner of the male as outlined in the Petpet Breeding Form.
Non-Whitelistees
Non-whitelistees can also receive petpets. The easiest way is to receive an adult or egg as a gift from a whitelistee.
Furthermore, when players breed their petpets (or, sometimes, when Setsushi stumbles upon a clutch of eggs tucked under his house) they can choose to make them available for pay to the general public, choosing one of three methods. The Porcelain shop can distribute them to the public via raffle or speed flatsale -- the funds will go to the breeder, who may choose to donate some to the shop or not.
The breeder could also choose to hold a roleplay contest of sorts, in which hopefuls must RP their characters asking for one of the eggs. The winner will be chosen by the breeder.
The specific rules and procedure of each event are discussed with the breeder of the eggs, so they may vary slightly.
Non-whitelistees cannot breed their petpets at this time.
Life After Adoption
To name your pet, change its displayed temperament, trade or gift it to another user, or update its displayed age, use the Petpet cert change form. Setsushi won't update it otherwise, as he doesn't pay close attention to petpets.
It is not against the rules to sell your petpets to others, including non-whitelistees, for money. However, if you received that petpet or egg from another player, you should probably okay it with them before doing so, as some people don't like it.
Petpets do not automatically die of old age, even if you bring them on each of your growth retreats and they ICly exceed the normal lifespan of their species. However, if you wish to ICly kill off your pet due to old age or accident, it is allowed; note so under "Death!?" on the change form. Although this may be good for your characters' development, please don't write anything too traumatic as lots of us are sensitive to animal suffering.

Dragon - Cat This warm-blooded, feathered, lizard-like creature native to the Porcelain world is called by the same word that Gaians use for "cat," but when they must be distinguished from mammalian cats, they are called "dragon-cats." In the Empire, they fulfill a very similar social role to that occupied by barn cats in human civilizations -- and a few of them are being bred for beautiful coloration and a calm, affectionate demeanor and brought into the houses of nobles, especially in Houkoku.
Dragon-cats are semi-social animals. The feral and semi-feral cats of the Empire are solitary hunters and defend their hunting territories from other cats, but tend to congregate in neutral territories and sleep together for mutual protection. Males, which are slightly larger, more muscular, less vocal, and less friendly, tend to roam and travel from group to group, while females, which are smaller, plumper, noisier, and more affectionate, tend to stay close to their relatives. Females often brood eggs communally and help each other in the raising of the young.
While the barn-cats of the Empire, which benefit Porcelain by hunting vermin (some of the only mammals in the Golden World,) tend to have drab brown, gray, and black coloration, some of the nobles, scholars, and fanciers who have been working on breeding larger mounts have tried applying the same selective breeding techniques to the dragon-cat, producing more brilliantly plumed specimens. At the same time, they have been selecting for docility, friendliness, and lack of territoriality, producing the first real housepet of the Empire. These fancy cats are only popular in the wealthy houses of Houkoku so far, although the fashion is spreading to Ryuukoku and Toukoku.
Dragon-cat eggs, which are laid in clutches of one to six, hatch after approximately 35 days of incubation. Kittens become reproductively mature between 4 and 8 months of maturation. Though in the Empire barn-cats do not live very long lives, with the high-tech medical care of Gaia a house cat could live 10 years or longer.

Dragon - Cat What's available? Nothing's planned for non-whitelistees right now -- but whitelistees may or may not be able to request fresh cats. See the Announcements post of the main thread.
