i'm originally a flautist and i have been playing the flute in marching band for 2 years. For my junior year, since we have a giant flute section, I'm switching to alto sax. I just want to know how you hold the sax on the marching field. I play the alto 4 jazz band so i know how to hold it in general lol but i want to know the posture and everything. lol a little different than the flute smile heavier and you don't play to the side smile

I play alto. Yeah when at attention you've got your right hand on the end of the sax and your left curved under at the first set of keys. Whe you're at rest your left hand behind your back, and your right holding the sax near the thumb hook holding it parallel to the ground. I dont know how your band does it but when we come to attention we flip our saxes up by pushing our left hand down. It isnt hard. hehe, hove fun playing alto! blaugh

ok thanks, i had the former sax section leader help me 2. at attention we hold it straight in front of us almost at a playing position and parade rest, we let the sax hang with our hands cupped in front of it...i think lol. i know wat parade rest is but i forgot wat attention is and playing position is self explanatory lol. rather than to ur side, it's kinda like a curvy clarinet
