Think the sun will go Super Nova?
Many theories says that the sun will, and many says its not.
What do u think?
reply ur answers in this topic.

My opinion is yesbecause when the sun become a Supergiant,It will Burnt the planets to crisp and it will explode and a new star will take its place.

Yes it will be one hell of a big bang.
Seen something on the television about it tho.
Question is when will it happen.

Well you got about 3 or 4 billion years, so not much longer... mrgreen

I better start with buying some bottled water to survive the massive heat. gonk

LOL. I agree.

I think that the sun will explode, wiping out the milky way universe and some of the others around it. Maybe in a few billion years. Good thing by then, I'll be dead blaugh

Wiping the milky way universe? Get your science facts straight, it won't be THAT powerful. It will probably wipe out the first four or five planets. It will probably turn into a supernova, and then maybe into a dwarf. There is a chance it could turn into a black hole, but probably not.

Well, eventually, it will go nova, but it doesn't have the mass to go supernova. Too small. On the other hand, since it will expand to Earth's orbit when it goes red, it won't much difference whether it goes nova or supernova.

I really don't have a concern on whether it will or not turn super nova. Its billions of years away and something else bad is bound to happen way before that.

Sol will neither go nova or supernova. It will expand to a red giant, then shrink to a white dwarf. Sol cannot go supernova because it simply does not have the mass to do such. Also, when a medium sized star goes nova, it almost always is in a binary star system. The dying star takes energy from its counterpart in order to attain the mass needed to go nova. We live in a rare single-star system. It is thought that Jupiter was supposed to be Sol's counterpart, but it never reached critical mass.

Not until all those obelisks start appearing on it to increase density enough to cause star ignition. mrgreen

Sorry, couldn't resist that one as your comment made that novel/movie come to mind.

I'm sure we'll have either annihilated ourselves completely or finally come to some type of 'good will' towards each other and a more cohesive society as a whole and moved onward before then. So I doubt anyone will be here once the Earth is consumed by Sol's beer gut expansion. burning_eyes

That isn't a supernova, it's just the red giant stage of a G-type star. Our sun will not become a supernova, it is not massive enough. It will expand when it exhausts the hydrogen in the core, and finally puff off an outer layer when the rest collapses into a brown dwarf star. It will not explode catastrophically in a supernova.

yes.. I do think so... but at least... that will/may happen after billions of years... how sad could it be if the universe is gone

i really dont know if the sun will go supernova but if i think that the it wont because they say that a bunch of theries said that it was this day and that day such as the year 2000 but they were dead wrong but for some reason im starting to believe it will because a unch of things are saying stuff about Dec. 21, 2012 is the end of the world

As many have already said, a medium sized yellow star like our sun isn't supposed to have enought mass to go supernova. However we don't know for sure. Supernovas are pretty rare so studying them thorougly is difficult, and I'm pretty sure nobody has ever taken a look at one up close and lived to pass the knowledge on.
