If you're particularly attentive, you may have noticed that the Anachronism now has a new guild banner thingy; mostly because I felt the old one was a bit tired and worn, and in need of a change.
To that effect, last night I made a new banner - one which I hope will be clearer and more striking. However, that isn't to say it'll stay there forever (indeed, it is a very quick affair) - and I was very curious as to what you think the new guild banner should be like. Do you have any fonts, colours or images you think should be included? How much should it try to say, and the like. I'm currently tinkering with butting faint shadow images behind.
In short, I'd love to hear your thoughts.

I did notice it this morning and thought it was a refreshing change.
If there were to be any improvement on the current banner I would superimpose a photo of some gear works on the background with the opacity turned down to 25% or so. Just so it is hinted at, and not too distracting from the name of the guild.

I would agree with the above ,it's simpler, but could use a bit of clockwork, maybe a steam whistle

I'm currently fiddling around with the layers, trying out the looks of various things behind the text (shadowy or otherwise).

Too yellow? Then, prey, what would prefer; brushed metal, perhaps? Old paper? A swirl of glowing aether?
Thank you very much for your offer; I'll not stop you, but this is the sort of thing I'd like to make myself. I'm interested to see what you come up with, though.

i like the idea i began to incorperate into my banner idea. with the lightining flashing by in the background... maybe have it running through tubes, like this: http://neatorama.cachefly.net/images/2007-10/steampunk-flux-capacitor-clock.jpg
as for your existsing banners, maybe a darker background tone to what you already have, perhaps use a sepia toned map as the background? partly because to me it looks wrong somehow, but also because your light effect ones dont show the light very well on the background.

But I loved the old one... though I must admit, fire-link's banner is wonderful.

I personally favor the second one with the exclamation over the center of the gear..
Honestly, I think fire - link's is a tad too distracting.
Basically, simplified designs are likely to appear the best.
Also, while others might not like the gold banners, I do. Because they appear more gold than yellow on my monitor, it's somewhat appropriate, attractive, and yellows, oranges, and reds are bright, exciting colors.

Simple was what I aimed for; something colourful (hence the yellow, based off brass and gold) and bold to catch people's eyes amidst the guild lists. Whilst I quite like many parts of fire - link's banner (such as the nifty bolt of electricity); I just think it a bit crowded and kinda gloomy. Sorry! D:

The new one is pretty! I liked the old as well. There isn't anything wrong with cycling a few banners over time.

After careful consideration I'm liking the "!" banner as well. "Sunrise" banners are also nice. Either yellow or grey is cool. Perhaps a smaller gear linking to the larger one with the center over the top of the "h"?
Then again "keep it simple" is my motto when doing art or game design.
