I don't normally have the patience for nature photography. This is part of a two hour session a couple of weekends ago. I was so tickled that we had honey bees! That virus (or whatever it was) really knocked our honey bee population for a loop. This is what I think of in my own head as an "almost-macro." I'm really hoping to be able to afford one of the real ($900) macro lenses, someday, but the one we have will have to do... Probably forever. But I can dream...

Awesome shots! Those are great! I'm so jealous. Even if we get a good shot, our camera screws it up...
I love the softening of the grass or green stuffeses in the back. That really brings the focal point through but also .....oooh shite... my brain just fuzzled out.... Also.... shoot... also....? Oh is also very complimentary in color to the shots!
Great work!
And damn if I didn't remember!

Wow that's really great! I have a really crappy camera. Would you let me know what kind of camera you use and what you need to take really nice close up images. My digital camera won't let me zoom in close on objects.

those are beautiful. Yeah it saddens me how all the bees have been dying or vanishing all over the country. I go through honey like it's crack. Put it in tea, cereal, and tons of other things.
I have some bee pics somewhere as well. We had the privilege of having a moving hive hang out in a tree by the driveway for a day or two, resting before moving on to look for a new home. I would love to get some hives of my own and do a little bee keeping. Have my own honey supply and try my hand and making my own mead.

Thank guys. You're too sweet. biggrin
Vasalisa- My beau is really nice and lets me use his "fancy" camera. All the info for these shots reads something like:
Make: Canon Model: Canon EOS DIGITAL REBEL Shutter Speed: 1/125 second F Number: F/22.0 Focal Length: 300 mm ISO Speed: 1600
Was using a big, huge lens to zoom in like that. The flowers the bees are on are pretty tiny, so this just makes everything look huge. Cannon calls it macro focus, but it's not quite. I mean, if it was a true macro you'd be able to see each and individual hair on the bee, the flecks of pollen all over it, etc. I'm happy to have the huge zoom, but I really, really want a real macro lens, someday. Like most impressive equipment, they're stupidly expensive.
Hope this info helps!
