A pitch-black form lurked in the pitch-black night. It was a massive form, with a sleek, jet-black pelage, red flames dancing around him. He tilted his head up at the sky, glaring at the dim stars, which seemed quite faint this night. A sigh escaped him through his nostrils and he lowered himself onto the raised rock. It stood about six feet off the rest of the cliffs, and a steep precipice lay before him. It would be a nice place for dive from.

He closed his blood red eyes, resting his head on his paws. His ears drooped as he relaxed, along with his wings from their place beside him. He still flexed his claws, something he had never been able to grow out of. His wine-colored horn gleamed with the light of the red flames. It was a peaceful night...

Aodh slunk through the night, not really sure why he was even still awake. It was his uncle that was the nocturnal one, not him, or either of his mothers, or either of his brothers, as far as he knew.

He wouldn't mind if Rai suddenly decided to become nocturnal, though. It'd spare Aodh having to see the disgusting mushiness.

In any case, it was night, and Aodh just didn't feel like sleeping yet. It wasn't all that late, either: not even midnight yet, he guessed.

His ears pricked forward as he heard a noise a bit ahead of him on the cliff. It sounded like deep breathing, he decided after a moment. Like from something large. Maybe some kind of predator. Or maybe, if he was lucky, a 'phim or a 'deva or some kind of fox. He didn't want to sleep, and he was bored.

Aodh continued forward, not bothering with stealth: he had never met anything he couldn't take down, between his huge size, and the flames that constantly surrounded his paws, occasionally scorching the ground.

He could finally see what it was, around the next curve. Definitely a 'deva from the size of it. Aodh thought he recognized him, too, but he came a little closer, just to be sure.

Yeah, definitely Osoreru there.

"Yo," Aodh called out, as he came closer still.

The black 'Daeva growled, one of his blood red eyes snapping open at the sudden voice. His tail flicked with agitation and the flames around him intensified. He opened both his eyes and raised his head from his paws, glowering down at whoever it was that dared to disturb him on this tranquil night. He then realized why the voice sounded so familiar, and the flames hungrily licking the air died down ever so slightly. His demeanor calmed and he sighed. "Well, well..." Osoreru began with a light chuckle. "I didn't think I'd be seeing you any time soon, Aodh..." he finished, standing up on all four paws. He yawned, stretching out his wings. On the rock, he was twice the size of the other 'Daeva. He licked his lips and hopped down, gently landing next to the white, purple, and blue 'Daeva. "What brings you here this night?" he asked, shifting his gaze to Aodh.

"Just wandering," Aodh shrugged, then frowned. That made him think of his mother, who had taken off with her clan again, to...well, he didn't even know where.

It wasn't even like he spoke to her all that much, now that he was grown up, but it was still weird, thinking that he might never see his mother again.

Maybe that was what was keeping him up. He hadn't even realized it until now.

"What about you?"

Osoreru chuckled at Aodh's resemblence to his mother. She was the Elder of a nomad tribe, after all. He shrugged at Aodh's question. "Just looking for peace and tranquility, I suppose. I just wanted to get away from the world." He replied, flexing his claws. He gazed up at the stars. He did want to get away from the world, away from his mother and his four other half brothers, his step-dad, his siblings who were still trapped in their BCRs, even Aodh's very odd brother and his godforsaken boyfriend. He shuddered with the thought. How did Aodh put up with them, that deranged, pathetic excuse for a 'Daeva and that wretched multi-coloured fox? 'He must be oddly patient...' Osoreru said to himself, dismissing the thought.

"Well, how have you been otherwise? It's been a little while since I've seen you."

"Besides having to put up with Rai and whatshisname, fine." Adoh made a face, showing exactly what he thought of his brother's mushy relationship with with one of the foxes from mother's tribe.

That was a good reason not to get into wandering if he ever saw one. Although he did have to feel sorry for his mother, if she had to put up with the two of them daily.

"It's been kind of boring, though, now that mom's left with her tribe, and Rai's off doing mushy things, and you've been...wherever. Having all the sane people suddenly go missing sucks. It's even worse when sane ones turn insane, like Rai."

Obviously, Aodh was displeased with Rai's 'betrayal'. Even though they'd always fought before, it didn't mean Aodh hated Rai: it was just something to do.

And now Rai'd turned all freaky on him, and Aodh wished he'd turn back.

Osoreru chuckled again at Aodh's grimace. "Indeed." He said with a sigh. "I've been around... Just not in sight, I guess." He stated, smirking at Aodh's next remark. "There are no 'sane' foxes to begin with, only those with more control than others." With a lash of his thick, massive tail, he lightly whacked Aodh's chest. "Rai just... I don't know... Lost what little control he had over himself." The black 'Daeva mused. "Mates just seem to be a waste of time to begin with. Take a look at my mother, Akuma. She's mated off to some fox in another tribe and hardly sees him anymore, though the two tribes are fairly close together. She also has four other male children from the litter with her actual mate, different from my... Illegitimate litter with my father..." He spat out the word 'illegitimate' as if it were something bitter. "She's also cursing herself and detests herself for doing whatever she did with my father... For having me and my two, unborn brothers..." He added in a low, hushed voice. He averted his gaze away from Aodh, his vision resting on his paws and the flames he involuntarily conjured.

It hurt. It hurt that his mother would rather that he and his brothers not exist, as far as he knew at least. Yet he hadn't told that to anyone. It was unnecessary to display such weakness, such as this lust for family acceptance. But that did not leave him without the internal anguished he dealt with day in and day out. Osoreru considered it a pitiful thing. He did not need his mother's love, or the rest of her forsaken family for that matter. So why did it still pain him to know that he didn't have that?

Aodh tried to imagine his mom mated to someone, and failed. Yeah, there'd been he whole thing with her and his other mother, but that wasn't a mating. That was just a thing that happened. He didn't know his mother that well, but he had a hard time imagining her mated, as well.

"If they make you like Rai, definitely. I'm not so sure though. Uncle Ari seems to be doing fine with his mate, and my cousins with theirs." Aodh only had the vaguest notion about his cousins Sigal and Twilight--all he knew was they existed, were part of the Amores tribe, and mated. Mom wasn't that close to them, so Aodh wasn't, either.

"But your mom's case...sounds like she's got some issues. So she had kids with your father. Big deal--it's not like she's the only one who that happened to." Aodh wondered for a moment why everyone seemed to have gone crazy at once, but didn't think about it for long: there was no point. "Why wouldn't she go and see the guy, if she's mated to him and all? Just look at Rai and Sparkles--they're all over each other all the time. So, there's something up with her if she's not going to see her mate. Never met her, so I can't even begin to guess what, though. But she's a grown up vixen, I'm sure she can sort it out on her own." Aodh shrugged. Despite having someone as serious as Rina for a mom, somehow--possibly just because of mother's genes--he had turned out much more lighthearted than her. He was definitely an optimist, who believed that everything would turn for the better in the end.

Osoreru threw his head back and laughed. "She does have issues... That insane vixen..." He sighed, shaking his head. "I was born into an insane family." He stated. His mother was a problematic one, considering her past. She joined the Bamboo Tribe, adopted Nako, mauled some random male fox of the Bamboo Tribe, found her long lost brother, got herself banished from the Bamboo Tribe, got into a fight with her mother, ran away for about a month or so, ran away again and had a night with Dorchet, and then came back with him and his two brothers... And that was as much as knew, at least.

He didn't know much about his father... Or his stepbrothers, his stepfather, and the rest of his enormous family. Only the things that Akuma had told him.

He turned towards the edge of the cliff and his stomach growled. With that, he looked at Aodh over his shoulder. "Do you want to go hunting?"
PostPosted: Sun Apr 26, 2009 11:40 pm

"All families are insane. It's just the degree and type vary." Like having a mom who barely stuck around to see her kids grow up before going off and wandering again. He couldn't understand that. He knew that his mom had to have reasons, but he couldn't even begin to imagine them. He wanted to be happy that she was doing what she loved, but he couldn't help but slightly resent her for it, instead. Going of who knew where, for how long, maybe to be never seen again...

Gee, it wasn't even like they'd gotten along that well. Okay, so they hadn't really fought, but mom was pretty strict, and Aodh...well, Aodh was more of a free spirit. Maybe he got it from his mother. Maybe he did get it from his mom, and they just had different kinds of "free spirit"--hers of wandering, his of just goofing off and doing whatever he felt like.

Damn, this whole thing was getting depressing.

Still better depressing than Rai and Sparkles, though.

"Huh? Yeah, sure," Aodh had been so far in his thoughts, he'd almost missed the question. He had barely even noticed he was hungry, for how much he was thinking.

Somehow, things seemed to be more serious when Osoreru was around. But then, that wasn't really a bad thing. If he hadn't been serious, he wouldn't know what had been keeping him up. He wouldn't be thinking about how he'd deal with mom taking off, and Rai and Sparkles, and everything he'd have to face soon enough.

Yeah, seriousness actually did have its good points. In moderation. Which was also cool, because things weren't all serious, all the time with Osoreru, either. Complaining about Rai and Sparkles and crazy families, and crazy vixens who needed to be taken to a shaman, or maybe even an elder or whoever even took care of things like that, to free them from possession.

Right, back to reality.

"Got anything particular in mind?" Aodh didn't care. Something that was filling, and not a complete bore to hunt, and he was there.

"Hmmm..." Osoreru mused, flexing his claws. "I'm not up for anything smaller than a deer, and deer are easy to kill... Too easy... In fact, all herbivores are too easy." He said, a smirk tugging at the ends of his lips. "I would go for a mountain lion, though I am not in a particular mood for a big cat..." He was being oddly picky today. "Would you go for a bear?" He asked, licking his lips. It seemed like fair game for him tonight, and they weren't exactly an easy kill either, despite the fact that he and Aodh were both 'Daevas. If they killed it with an aerial attack, it would be over in mere seconds... He decided not to be cheap tonight.
PostPosted: Mon Apr 27, 2009 6:21 pm

"Bear is good," Aodh agreed. He was usually more one for herbivores, not liking the taste of carnivores, but he felt like a challenge tonight. He'd had enough of thinking, and right now he'd rather focus on finding and killing his dinner.

Aodh headed down the cliff, looking for any signs of bears. It seemed like a very good place for a bear to live, so he didn't expect to be searching long.

Osoreru smirked at Aodh’s simplicity. Why was he doing things like a normal Modifox would?

He sprang upon the rock he was laying on not too long ago, arching his neck and looking down the steep precipice before him. He took in a deep breath through his nostrils, stretching his grand wings. The muscles in his hind legs tensed as he crouched down, retracting his wine-coloured claws. With one strong stroke of his wings, he leapt off the ledge, soaring at least twenty feet up into the air before twisting himself in such a way that his nose was pointing towards the earth. He tightly folded his wings by his sides, flattened his ears against his head, and kept his limbs close to his body to minimize air resistance as he dove down. His blood red eyes were fixed on the cliff, carefully examining it as he continued his way down. By going this fast, he would be assured that his prey would not expect him or run off, if by any chance there was prey on this side of the cliff.

As the black ‘Daeva plunged to certain death, he caught a glimpse of what seemed to be a grizzly bear meandering its way up the cliff, clumsily trying to grasp at rocks and loose gravel that easily fell away from the cliff. A challenging meal? He asked himself, his lips parting slightly.

Osoreru’s gaze fell to the ground he was rapidly falling towards. He braced himself and flared out his wings, which caught the wind and abruptly stopped his fall. It was a harsh halt and his head was reeling. His tail swung up between his legs, glancing off the ground before gently falling back.

After hovering in the air for a few moments by lightly beating his wings, his landed silently on the ground. He tilted his head up and saw the faint light of what was the flames Aodh created and the unfortunate grizzly bear. He chuckled and licked his lips, bounding quickly but silently back up to Aodh.

Aodh was about to roll his eyes at how much Osoreru felt the need to show off, but he was distracted by something bounding from the trees. He pounced on it, instinctively, but to his disappointment, found it was just a deer. Its back had broken under his weight, and so Aodh delivered a killing blow to it, so he wouldn't have to listen to its cries of agony for hours on end.

"See anything good?" he asked, while contemplating the deer. He did prefer them to any of the predators. But if he ate the deer, then he couldn't have the fun of a bear hunt: unwritten rules of masculinity, and the difference between helping with a kill, and killing your own dinner, and all that.

Osoreru chuckled. "You do things the simple way... And as a matter of fact, I did. I found our not-so-little, unfortunate victim tonight." He stated, gesturing to the other side of the cliff. "The poor, clumsy bears don't know when to stop ascending cliffs. We better hurry before it slips and kills itself." He added, chuckling sardonically. He wheeled around and darted off, expecting that Aodh would follow him.
