 "One step, two step..."
A female juvenile had been wandering about the grass-strewn area in the afternoon, honing her hunting skills albeit dismally considering her inability to keep quiet for even a moment. She had managed to steal away from her mother long enough for this little bit of freedom. It wasn't that Lulua`ina was an ungrateful pup - she genuinely loved her mother. No, the only problem was all the smothering that she had to endure from her mom.
"Maybe it's 'cause I'm much too pretty to be left alone..." she considered the possibility proudly.
Okay, so Lulu was a bit vain and conceited. It certainly did not help to be smothered. The girl wanted adventure! Experience some fun! Perhaps even meet a boy! And all this, away from her mother's watchful eye.
She bent low against the ground, partially hidden in the tall, yellow grass and swished her tail. There was target number one: Birds pecking for food on the ground. They wouldn't suspect a thing.

A pounding of paws and a flurry in the grass was the only warning before a white and teal body burst from the grass nearby, streaking through after a bit of white and gray fluff that managed to stay just ahead of it.
Yipping excitedly, Tai struggled to catch up to the rabbit he chased, his adolescent body full of youthful enthusiasm, if not a lot of skill. He'd surprised the rabbit in the grass, but that had been the only thing he had going for him. It was faster and far more experienced in this sort of thing, so as long as it didn't tire out, it had nothing to fear from the young male.
The pair zigzagged back and forth some before diving back into the grass, soon followed by a disappointed yelp. The rabbit had found a convenient hole and had finally escaped its pursuer. It was probably down there laughing now... thinking the pup had never stood a chance. That's what Tai was thinking anyway as he dug at the entrance, knowing he'd never reach it, but too disappointed to give up easily.

All of a sudden, the birds stopped their pecking and other bird-like habits as if detecting the presence of someone else. But how could that have been? Lulua`ina hadn't even moved an inch. She couldn't possibly have made a sound. The pup narrowed her eyes dark eyes at the birds and couple seconds later, pounced forward in a failed attempt to bring one of them down.
The birds screeched and flapped their wings high into the sky, blowing up bits of dirt. Lulu coughed away the billowing dirt and dusted herself off. Oh, how she despised filth. Her white ears twitched for any unusual sound that the birds heard. There. Her acute hearing picked up a distant, faint yipping sound. It sounded like a wild dog.
Lulu scowled, but quickly moved in the direction of the source of barking for her curiosity had won over her annoyance. She emerged out of the grass to find a white canine digging in the ground. He currently didn't seem to be very happy with whatever he was doing. She raised a brow and trotted over lightly on her feet, until she was a couple yards away.
"Whatcha doing?" she tilted her head towards the bigger male.

Tai lifted his head to snort dirt from his nose, shaking his head to clear it of what he could. He was supremely disappointed, and hungry to boot, so he scowled when he looked up to find the owner of the voice with its silly question.
"I was -trying- to catch a rabbit, but as you can see, I can't fit down a rabbit hole." He grumbled, giving the hole a few last half-hearted digs before he climbed out and shook himself off, turning to kick some dirt back into with his back paws out of spite.
"Have yet to catch one of those dang things, but I swear! One day I'll be a rabbit hunting master!" He puffed his chest up as he stood up tall, a proud smile on his face. Okay, so it was a little bit of a boast, but really not that far off... right? Right.
The male focused in on the younger female, eyeing her now that he wasn't distracted with the rabbit. "Who are you, anyway? My name's Tai. It means 'great', which is what I'm going to be when I grow up!"

Lulu laughed at the silly male in front of her. Her mother could catch rabbits. Maybe he wasn't grown up enough. The juve raised her brow, seriously doubting his hunting skills. Even if she couldn't hunt for herself yet, she was learning. Certainly she'd be better than him when she grew up too.
"Oh really?" Lulu grinned at Tai. "Well, Tai, I'm Lulua`ina. And... I don't really know what it means." She scrunched up her face at the realization. "I think it means freckles, according to my mama. But you can just call me Lulu."
She trotted boldly towards the canine, peering past him at the now-buried rabbit hole. Poor rabbits! After staring pointedly at Tai for a few seconds, the young female began to dig at the dirt, gradually opening the entrance. Why did he do that? It wasn't their fault he failed to catch them. Lulu giggled at him (or more at his silliness) when her work was done.
"Now you leave the rabbits alone!"

The spotted male snorted as the female introduced herself as 'Lulu', shaking his head to rid it of some of the dust he'd collected in his digging.
"Freckles, huh? That's an... original name." He smirked a little before turning and kicking a little dirt with his back paws towards the hole, dismissing it now as unimportant. The stupid rabbits could keep their hides, for all he cared. He'd just go catch something more obliging.
"I don't care any more. That one looked thin and stringy anyway." He trotted over to flop down in the grass, rolling enthusiastically before flopping onto his side, his sides heaving as he panted, tongue lolling.
"What are you doing out here anyway? Shouldn't you be with your momma?" He teased her.

She narrowed her eyes at Tai, who nonchalantly disregarded her. She couldn't tell if he was doubting her or making fun of her, but she decided it bordered on both. Scrunching up her nose as he kicked the dirt back again, Lulu chuckled at the male's excuses. She rolled her eyes, following him into the grass, and sat down beside him. He was so childish despite his physical build - it made Lulu giggle.
But she frowned at his little comment.
"Mama," she paused dramatically, "doesn't know I'm here. Besides, I'm out here to have fun. Not be nagged on."
Her green-tipped tail thumped against the soft grass enthusiastically.

The youth rolled his eyes as he wiggled, flopping about unable to be completely still. Girls... they were so weird sometimes.
Her comment about her mother though made him perk up, earning her a smidgen of his arrogant respect. Anyone who didn't want a clingy mother around was a bit higher on his totem pole than those who were momma's pups.
"Well, aren't you the rebel." He teased her, rolling over to swat in her general direction with his paw. He wasn't really aiming to hit her, but it wasn't a hard swat even if he did. "Out to play with the boys, huh? Don't wanna stay at home like a good little girl?" Tai grinned toothily as he rolled into a crouch, his tail lifted and swaying playfully over his raised hips.
