Mirror and turn posting have been requested for this thread Mirror posting for Shika means you don't have to hit the five paragraph mark or more~ Anything over two paragraphs will do~
Mismatched eyes half closed, back propped against the massive midnight wolf Alister lifted one hand to delicately brush the curl of crimson from his face while his other hand flipped the page of the book in his lap. To any casual passerby who only spared a glance at the pair the young man and his wolf would have looked innocent, not at all like a seasoned pair they were.
In truth that was just what Alister Shields and Twilight were aiming for. Feigned innocence...though for both a completely different reason. Alister was on the prowl, it was clear in the lazy half closed eyes, and the coy smile which if it had been on any other person might have seemed inviting...but not on this one. Oh no, that smile promised something completely different from friendship and a casual chat. That smile, whenever it graced Alister's face meant he was on the hunt for a..toy.
Twilight's feigned innocence was of a different sort, it was more to soothe the younger wolves and riders that happened past and found themselves the momentary focuses of Alister's vicious gaze.
"Why do you insist on doing this?" Heaving something akin to a tired sigh the black wolf shifted looking down at her rider for not the first time in several minutes.
"Doing what?" Flipping the page again, he looked up briefly to stare at one of the passing riders as they hurried across the snow covered field and into the shelter of the buildings. Letting out a puff of air in a soft laugh, he shifted to make himself comfortable and resumed his reading.
Sitting outside on a relatively snow free rock propped against his only worthy companion watching the snow..and on occasion riders fall beat sitting inside in his room doing nothing. Besides, he needed the fresh air, and what better time to get some fresh air than in the early afternoon hours when everyone slunk inside claiming it was too cold out.
"Sitting outside...and scaring the other riders with that...look of yours?"
"Because dear Twilight...it is fun and I am bored." Giving a soft chuckle at the sigh from the wolf, he returned to his previous activities...Watching and reading.

"WOULD YOU SLOW DOWN YOU LAZY BAG OF BONES!" Calla shouted out, thumping the large white and orange wolf on the side only to be ignored. Calla sighed, this is what she got for waking him up. Raising one hand from her grip on the Harnessless wolves fur she brushed aside the orange strand of hair that had started to irritate her eye. She hung on with quiet skill as the wolf romped about in the snow half attempting to throw his rider off. 'You are so terribly useless sometimes, you know that?' Calla though, knowing the little bugger would hear that better than her shouting. Again no answer came. Still clinging Calla decided she might as well pull herself together from the run through the woods, running her hand through her tousled hair and adjusting her clean red shirt so it sat properly on her small frame. She could feel WoodWhisp rolling his eyes at her movement but she ignored him, tightening her rifle strap and checking to make sure her pistol was still in it's holster. The pistol was more use to her than the rifle, but she carried both of them anyways.
WoodWhisp smirked to himself as he felt his rider loosening her grip to adjust herself. It was then he picked up his speed through the snow, charging into the camp and aiming for the nearest tree. What WoodWhisp failed to see in his distraction was the young man and the wolf beneath the large stick in the ground. It was these two innocent bystanders he showered in snow as he slid to a sudden stop.
Calla hadn't expected WoodWhisp to stop so soon, despite the fact that she should have been prepared for such a maneuver she was not. The rather male looking woman was thrown from WoodWhisp's back. Calla was lucky though, there was something soft and squishy that she landed on. Calla opened her eyes and blinked the snow from them, only to find herself looking up at a pair of mismatched eyes, Green and Brown. "HI~" She said cheerfully, pulling her hand out from underneath her and waving up at the person she had landed on, "I'm Calla. Nice to meet you!" 'Wood, you are the deadest hunk of still-breathing flesh on the face of the planet.' Calla thought darkly, she heard the wolf laughing in the back of her mind as he lay down where he had stopped watching this scene unfold.

(ooc: I will try to match length of post... but I doubt I can) Miri was walking around with Darkwind around the White Shadow fort. Darkwind was trotting along on Miri's right side, helping her to not drop any of the books she was carrying. Why do you insist on bringing so many pointless books with you?"Dark asked to Miri.
Cause I just want to get away from the stuffy fort, get some fresh air, and be alone for a while, ya'know?
Dark just nodded as they continued their walk. Miri, shielding the snow from the leather-bound books, trying to prevent them from getting as little wet as possible, finally settled down near a tree to the south of the fort. That should keep the books dry enough.Miri said happily to Dark, expecting no one to be around. She sat down under the large evergreen and started reading the history textbooks that she had brought with her and began humming softly a sad tune she had heard one of the girls back at the academy hum.
You do realize we're not alone?Dark asked quietly.
Somewhat. Let's go check them out. They should be from White Shadow since there are no other beings out here, specially not centipedes, it's winter!
They walked off to the direction of voices.

His life had been going so blissfully well, until a warning yip from Twilight came moments too late and he found himself covered in snow, and then as a rather uncomfortable weight slammed into him was sent rolling. Letting out a soft groan as his mind supplied to calm diagnosis that...his side was going to bruise, he mentally sighed.
Now then, that was one problem solved. Forcing open his mismatched brown and green eyes an almost wolfish growl rose in his throat. This was another problem. The growling sound in his throat almost reached fever pitch before he squashed it. No need for this new problem to see and...hear the full extent of his annoyance.
Eyes narrowing at the introduction, Alister calmly, admittedly stiffly pulled his knees up under him as best he could, without kneeing the woman...much, dragged himself to his feet. Staring down at the one person that had earned the lovely cold edge of his temper he almost huffed. "Tell me...Calla...have you no sense of direction?" The question came out in a soft almost purring tone as Alister dusted the powdered snow from his shoulders before casting a look at the glowering Twilight.
Shall I kill her or will you?
Considering she slammed into you...I'll give you that...pleasure. Rising to her feet she shook herself out before settling her attention on the other wolf. Lips curling back in a slight snarl, the fur around her neck poofed out for a moment before she calmly stalked toward WoodWhisp.
"You could have killed my rider..and yours with that reckless behavior." A flick of her long black tail as Twilight flexed her claws staring down at the other wolf.

Calla smiled cheerfully as she brushed the white flecks from her dark red uniform. She realized she had probably angered the young man she had landed on, and it was probably going to take quite a bit of smooth talking to get herself out of this one. "Well now. Some manners you have, tearing into me without even giving me a name to address you with!" Calla said with only a touch of sarcasm, "And anyway, if you knew anything about that lazy bag of bones you'd know I had no control of where we were going." Calla explained gesturing nonchalant at WoodWhisp who was now on his back in the snow, stretched out comfortably eye his Rider. A quick check over herself she discovered she had a bruised shin and the hem of her pants had been torn again. She let out a sigh at having to stitch them up again, it was amazing how often her clothes got ripped and shredded around that lethargic wolf. Speaking of her worthless tub of lard she took her eyes away from the man she had landed on and examined him quickly. He was fine of course, sprawled out on his back in the snow he was having quite a laugh in the back of her mind. It was then she saw the other mans wolf begin to approach him, a smirk crossed her face as she felt the realization in the back of her mind that he now had his own problems to deal with.
WoodWhisp didn't bother to move or roll over as Twilight walked towards him. Instead his brown-orange eyes just watched her intently, occasionally glancing back towards his rider to make sure she was still okay. His tail swished back and forth in the snow as he wolfishly grinned up at the female. "Oh bah. Where's your sense of fun? They're both fine now aren't they? Calla was never in any sort of danger, it takes more than a small collision with a tree to take her out....now a brick wall on the other hand." WoodWhisp rambled, reminiscing vaguely about that time he'd taken revenge after a bath and sent his rider face first over his head and into a brick wall. She had been fine in the end, sure a broken wrist but she'd recovered from that quickly, if small woman could take on centipedes no tree nor brick wall could stop his Rider.

Miri could hear the voice of two privates, somewhat familiar, as the two voices argued. I have a bad feeling about this. Get on.]Dark ducked down, the fur around her belly brushed the snow.
Miri hopped on and directed Darkwind towards the voices. When they came to where the two wolves and two privates were, she hopped off, feeling the snow's slipperiness beneath her boots. She automatically threw her closest hand, the left one, onto Dark to steady her weight. Sorry When she was steady again, she kept her left hand on dark to prevent the books from getting wet and she put her right hand on her hip, waiting for the four in front of her to stop fighting and notice her appearance.
Although Darkwind wouldn't admit this to Miri or any other being, she was playing around with the snow. Dark had never felt the snow before, though she did see it from the safety of her mother's cave when she was still a pup, but the soft, cold, and not to forget wet snow wasn't something you see everyday. Plus, the centipedes must have feared it since they didn't come out during the winter. Dark felt Miri slip, and she tensed, ready to let the arguing wolfrider pairs know and ask them to help(ooc: well not exactly "ask" but make noise?). She let out a mental sigh of relief as Miri steadied herself again and waited for the pair in front of them to notice them, not wanting to get into the argument themselves. Occasionally, Dark would shake the snow off her paws and her tail, she wouldn't shake the snow off of her back because it would spray all over Miri and the snow would just end up on her back yet again.

One eyebrow arched delicately and the blond snorted softly in dry amusement. "I assure you...had I been...tearing into you, you would know. As for manners do forgive me," His voice was pretty much oozing with sarcasm as one hand drifted down to rest on his hip and he leveled those narrowed brown and green eyes on Calla. "Alister Shields. And you are a rather bored New Eve Private from all appearances. Its either that or your wolf is just trying to kill you."
Dusting off his surprisingly in tact white uniform, and dusting a few stray bits of snow from his hair, Alister considered his options for dealing with this woman..and the newest arrivals. He could, A ignore them or B chew them out for distrubing his peace and then ignore them. The latter was sounding lovely really.
Giving a snort and a toss of her head, Twilight seated herself casting a casual glance over her shoulder at Alister and Calla and then beyond them to the pair that had just arrived. "Well well well...seems we have a little gathering here."
Tail flicking she looked down at the wolf rolling in the snow and snorted again. "I take it you already tossed her at a brick wall as well?" Rolling her eyes at the grin, she flicked her paw up kicking up some snow into the other wolf's face. "What's a New Eve wolf doing all the way out here? Granted...its the middle of winter"

"Consider it forgiven." Calla said with a smile, leaning backwards slightly to pop her back after the landing, "Calla Bianchi New Eve Private. Though you could already tell that." She said by way of proper introduction. She spoke politely but there was a subtle note of ferocity and superiority in her tone, if you bothered enough to look for it. "Oh he's just trying to kill me, same as always. To be perfectly honest I do have better things to be doing, but a certain tub of lard decided he didn't want to go home just yet, so we find ourselves here instead." Calla explained, reaching over and nudging the wolves paw with her boot.
Calla was watching the man closely as she responded, she could tell she wasn't wanted. She could tell he was rather irritated at the rude interruption and she couldn't exactly say he didn't have a right to be. But there was something about this man she was picking up, and though she couldn't name it it wasn't particularly something she liked. A brief glance of her brown eyes noticed two new arrivals, she just hoped they didn't get dragged into what ever this man was plotting, she wasn't sure she could defend them and WoodWhisp at the same time.
WoodWhisp rolled back over and stood up, stretching himself out before pulling up to his full height. "I can defend myself just fine poppet." He whispered to his rider before turning back to the dark wolf in front of him. Shaking the snow from his back in Twilight's general direction. "Oh certainly. Remind me to tell you that story sometime, terribly entertaining. Not that her Patron was entirely pleased with me at the time, but come on now all she had was a broken arm." WoodWhisp spoke nonchalantly, as if it were perfectly normal for wolves to send their riders into brick walls, and other riders for that matter. "Well you see, there's this really nice lake, pond, thing not far from New Eve right. And this things like frozen solid! Or at least a good foot or three down, perfectly enough to hold my weight anyway. Not to mention all the fluffly snow on top, perfect place for a nap. At least until a certain someone decides I should be woken up and put to better use. Well I certainly wasn't going to go home without some form of revenge." He said excitedly, puffing himself out a in mock irritation at having been awoken from a perfectly nice nap, "Though I did originally think this was New Eve when I came charging through the gates...." He trailed off a bit, his tone slightly sheepish.

"Hey wait up, give it back!" Came the loud shouting of a young apprentice as she tore through the snow covered ground obviously kicking some of the bright snow into the air. "You silly pup, come back here." Chehero was chasing a light tan colored wolf giggling as she ran obviously enjoying the game the two were playing. Chehero really should be indoor right now doing some studying and finishing up the paper work that Vala, her patron had given her. But it didn't take long for Feathermist to become rather bored and with little effort managed to get Chehero into a game of fetch and catch.
Feathermist continued to hurry forward, not really paying attention to where she was going as she kept her eyes on Chehero while running forward. In her mouth was a dark grey branch to which the pair must be using in their small game. Having reached far enough away Feathermist turned her body around dropping the stick on the ground and breathing heavily, a loud bark echoed about as the small wolf performed a simple play bow her tail dancing in the air obviously enjoying the game with her bound.
Seizing up the moment to catch the stick away from Mist, Chehero made a sudden burst for it. Picking up speed as she moved along, her foot accidentally catching on an unseen rock under the snow Chehero fell face first into the ground. Just barely managing to catch herself with, what was now, her well skinned up hands. Brushing this off as a normal injury Chehero extended her hand out snatching the branch towards her laughing as she did so. "Now I have it," raising herself from the ground and brushing the snow of her now damp clothing Chehero pulled her arm back and let the stick soar.
Feathermist tore back after the stick in excitement, this was a good way to not only exercise Feathermist, Chehero's energetic new friend. But this also would help in her speed, something they would need in order to keep up with, and escape the centipedes when they would be eventually placed in the thick of battle. Chehero's mind wandered off, she didn't really want to be caught and killed on her first go with the giant bugs. A loud bark from Feathermist alerted Chehero, who frowned at the sight of the stick having his one of the older privates.

Miri saw both of the older privates look at her. She suddenly turned red with embarrassment, since she hadn't been prepared to say anything. Beside her, she could sense Darkwind rolling her huge sapphire blue eyes. "Errr...uhm... Darkwind and I were walking around the fort when we heard voices...so we came to check to make sure everything was okay?" Miri said, her voice squeaking on the last couple of words. Darkwind was laughing silently beside her. Hey would you have done better? I don't think so. She looked over at the new eve private and said "I've never met you before. I'm Miri and this is Dark, who are you?"(ooc: Assuming she met Alister before when she was an apprentice before)
As Mirisua was making her embarrassing 'speech,' Darkwind felt like laughing her head off and rolling around in the snow. When Miri said to Darkwind that Dark probably couldn't do any better, Dark replied smugly Seriously, I could. and nodded her head earnestly. The look that Miri gave her was so funny, Dark felt like bursting into laughter yet again. She settled with digging at the dirt and snow at her front paws. A noise set off a trigger in her brain. She quickly glanced around and saw Chehero and Feathermist playing fetch. Dark made a quick note to Miri, who was getting food out for Darkwind and herself.
Miri sat down on a knocked over log covered with the little bit of snow left after she swept it off with her hands, was now dishing out some bread and meat for Dark and herself. Dark had said that she had spotted Che and Mist nearby, so setting down the food down on the log, and with Dark guarding the food, she went off to find them.

((Journal))Returning to the fort, Evrian spotted quite the commotion, centered around a rock beneath one of the trees nearer to the fort walls. Riding easily upon CinderFrost's back as the dark red wolf moved in a gentle lope, the pewter-haired young man had a decent view of the chaos, but distance blurred the features of the participants. Wondering what may have happened to cause so many to gather outside on such a snowy day, he urged the wolf to move forward faster with a nudge from mind and knees. He felt her recoil a bit beneath him, but she picked up the pace anyway. Sending a wordless question to her, he wondered at her hesitation.CinderFrost gave a short, quiet huff, her breath condensing upon the chill air. It's that one you don't like, with the sun-blood hair. Though her human rider might not be able to tell the group ahead by sight just yet, her nose had revealed most of their identies. Two, a pair whose scents she didn't recognize, were in the thick of the chaos in the main group of humans and wolves. By the color of the girl's uniform, she was from New Eve, which would explain why Cinder didn't recognize their scents. At Cinder's reply, Ev stiffened up, and the wolf responded by nearly coming to a stop. They'd moved close enough for him to make out the group visually now, but as soon as Cinder had indicated that it was "the one you don't like," no further details had been necessary. Though there were only few in the fort he felt amiable towards, there was one that he simply couldn't stand. Alister, the one of "sun-blood hair," as his partner described him. Perhaps it was that the two men's outward natures were so similar that the other Private irked him so, or perhaps it was something more. Evrian really didn't like staring into the strangely twisted mirror of himself that was Alister; the silver and the gold, both cold womanizers to outward appearances. Perhaps it was hypocrisy, but he just really didn't like that man. Cinder... He had no need to say any more, and the wolf gave a slight nod, turning her steps so that they weren't headed directly for the main group any longer. Instead, they were about to cross the path of a streaking blur of pale brown fur. Or, rather, she crossed their path, chasing something that nearly whisteled through the wintry air with its speed. Both wolf and rider turned their gaze to the left to identify the origination of the speedy objects, one of which Cinder had already identified as one of the new pups, an energetic young femme called Feathermist. Two pairs of green eyes came to rest on the young woman who stood apart from the others, the only one out here who was younger than Evrian. Or, for that matter, with a wolf who was younger than CinderFrost. The wolf guided their path over to her now."Chehero." Evrian slid down from CinderFrost's back, his simple greeting full of melifluous warmth that didn't reach his cool, deep emerald eyes.

A brief chuckle from the dark wolf that was cut short at the hint of sudden irritation that drifted through her rider. Head tilted to one side Twilight turned her attention away from WoodWhisp instead focusing Alister, both silver tipped ebony ears twitching and twisting this way and that. Another jolt of irritation, this one stronger than the first. The waves of irritation were short but strong enough to have her on edge and ready to step in and contain her rider...as if that had ever been fully possible.
Whatever you're planning kill it right now. Huffing slightly at the most recent jolt of annoyance, this time directed at her, Twilight shook the snow from her back boring her gold and green eyes into the back of Alister's head. I mean it Alister Shields, kill whatever thoughts you might be having toward that man.
Who said I was planning anything? Pure ice danced through his veins as his attention shifted from Calla to Evrian. Useless, irritating, a complete and utter hypocrite...oh the list could go on and on but there was one thing that stood out above all else. He disliked the man, and dislike...was being too nice. Hearing a second disgruntled huff from his wolf, he turned dragging his attention from the other rider to meet Twilight's eyes. Quiet understanding but firm and no doubt unwavering determination. The wolf would step in if she had to, he knew that. The wolf who he shared an eye with.
He'd been nineteen that first night when Twilight had mentioned it. Nineteen and already as cold and vicious as the winter storm that had gotten them stuck at his parents' house.
*Flashback Begin*
We share the same eye, you know.
Idle chatter he'd thought coming from the black wolf sprawled in the den.
Do we now? Bow dancing over the violin's strings lightly he opened one eye, the green one, to stare at the nodding wolf.
Yep yep~ See that green eye? 'A wolf's eye' is what my mother said when I mentioned it to her when I saw her last. Letting a slight grin part her maw, her silver tipped ears pricked forward listening to the violin's mournful song.
Play something else Alister~
Twilight was getting whiny she always did when he started playing this song. Not that he cared...not that he cared at all, except for tonight. Lowering the bow and violin he stared straight at the wolf and let out a soft sigh. What do you want to hear?
Something...light...and warm~! Tail wagging, tongue lolling the black wolf watched as her young rider set the violin back on his shoulder and began to play and when the thrill of the music hit fully the wolf howled along with the violin, drowning out the shrieking wind outside. A young wolf and her rider, with not a care in the world until the wind died down and they returned to the fort and the snow melted and the centipedes came.
For tonight, just a wolf and rider with not a care in the world.
*End Flashback*
Letting out a soft sigh, he shook his head deciding it was best not to argue with the wolf. Twilight knew him, and that in and of itself was enough reason for him not to even bother to entertain whatever thoughts danced through his head. He'd let it go, just this once.
Just this once...just for you. He muttered softly and saw the wolf relax her intense burning stare no longer fixed on him.

Calla immediately noticed the change in Alister's stance and emotions as another male appeared. At first glance she felt it was simply a male dominance thing, but a second glance told a different story. The spike in his rage and irritation told her he truly didn't like this new comer. Normally Calla would have watched on to see what transpired. But this was not normal, there were to many innocent bystanders near by and she didn't want them drug in if Alister decided to get violent. "Hey you! Damn it we're having a conversation here! That generally means you should respond when someone's talkin' to you." She spoke quickly, waving her hand in front of his eyes briefly, hoping she could redirect his anger back at her. At least if he started a fight with her she could lure him away from the others. And anyway, despite her outward male-ish appearances people still tended to take her for a woman, despite her constantly proving she was much tougher than that. A good fight with a man of this fort would spread her reputation even farther.
"Oh dear. I suppose we're not liking him?" Whisp asked, noticing the change in both Twilight and Alister at the approach of another White Shadow private. WoodWhisp could tell full well that the female didn't need defending, but as usual he let instinct win out over common sense and he stood protectively beside the female, orange eyes carefully following the new comer and his wolf. "Careful Calla. I can't tell how Twilight not Alister are going to react to this man." Whisp pointed out to his rider, not realizing she was already making moves to distract the man.
'I realize that fur ball. Why do you think I'm trying to get myself killed?' Calla pointed out, WoodWhisp didn't respond, didn't glance at her. But at the same time she felt him pick up her meaning from her thoughts. She felt the mental head shaking he was giving her but didn't look towards him either. Still staring up at Alister in fake irritation at his lack of response.
"If you get killed I will bring you back to life so I can kill you again with my own claws." WoodWhisp said cheerfully, words he always spoke before they went into battle. And that is quite possibly what this could turn into.

Shadeclaw looked around as she walked quietly down the path. Being away from Saaki was strange, unsettling, but sometimes it was a short separation that was necessary. Saaki had went up the cliffs to get a better view of the city below. It was truly a pretty sight. Saaki's mind showed the images of the land below, along with words, "I wish you were here with me..." so vividly that Shadeclaw had to suppress a wolfish smile in delight.
She settled upon a rock in order to watch as both rider and wolf were clear to her. So many had come to belong within White Shadow, and it was no longer quiet, thank goodness. She laughed softly, her head dropping to her paws, blue eyes radiant with curiosity.
She closed her eyes, and joined her bonded up upon the ridge for a moment, before she heard a low commotion. She opened her eyes, discontented and stood up, leaping down from the rock in one fluid movement. What was happening? Were wolves fighting or their Riders..?
There they were, gathered. "What's going on?" She called out softly.

The young Female blinked twice as Evrian drew closer, she was rather shocked so many in the fort knew her. After all she and Feathermist had only managed to arrive at the fort a few days, hardly enough for anyone to know her by face. Her eyes trailed back to Feathermist as the young wolf barked and picked up a stick. However they would know the small caramel wolf by sight and then know her through Feathermist. Running a hand carefully through her hair she cautiously glanced up at Evrian, a warm welcoming smile spread across her face. "H-hello." She nervously spoke a light coloring appearing just under her eye's. She wasn't used to talking to men, after all most of her peers at the academy were female and the other's that weren't female. Well least to say they avoided her, but it never really did bother her. A slight nudge at her side brought Chehero into focus as she picked up the stick at her feet once again. Pulling her arm back and letting it soar, watching as Feathermist once again bounded off after the object. Catching a sight of Miri in the distance Chehero continued to smile warmly lowering her gaze.
Thoughts and memories drifted through her head, she liked her patron. The two of them were a good team, Chehero found she learned quite quickly under Vala. The slight wind that blue ruffling her hair felt nice to Chehero, even though it was winter. Chehero could still remember the smell of the flowers and the grass of the springtime. One time a year Chehero found special and wonderful all at the same time.
