I HAVE PROOF! xd Marching Band is a sport and here are ten reasons why: 1. Marching Band has a before-school camp just like any other sport like football or volleyball etc. 2. Marching Band takes at least 3 years of practice before you can even Start it. 3. Marching Band is physical and mental ( and even sometimes emotional eek ) 4. Marching band DOES get a letter for a letterman jacket. 5. Marching band costs a lot of money 6. In Marching band you ride a bus to go to competitions. 7. You practice after school. 8. There are seasons. 9. There are band jocks 10. It takes coaches (directer) and team captains (drum major)

Sorry, but I don't really understand a lot of your points.
1. I believe there are drama camps and the like. 2, 3. So do a lot of other activities. 4. So does academics. 5. What does money have to do with it? 6, 7, 8. This is true of other activities... 9. Really? I've never heard that term before. (not trying to sound sarcastic, I really have only heard "band nerd/geek") 10. I wouldn't call the director a coach, unless you're talking about the marching instructor. After all, concert bands have directors.
Not trying to prove that you're wrong or anything; I just think there are better arguments to be made if you wanted to prove marching band is a sport (which I don't believe, in any case). Anyway, there are a lot of threads already on this topic.

I believe you, and agree 100% times two. Though there are a lot more things that would be added. Marching IS a sport.
@mirienne; I don't think you get this topic's point very much. xD We're just comparing band to sports. It's more-so like a medafore (sp?) type thing.
... I don't know if I'm explaining myself right. lol.

My bad xD I always tend to get a little too involved in this particular argument, but I'll try to restrain myself, hahaha.

Heck, my band probably spent more time on the football field than the team did! 'Course half that time was in pitch darkness 'cause our stadium lights aren't done yet... mrgreen

Well I certainly didn't go through three years of training before starting, but I agree about the sport thing.

well if highschool band is like other highschool sports, corps must be like the pros sports out there. lol actually they did a research a while back. they hooked a drummer in a corps up with a heart rate monitor and a respirator. After doing a run-thru it stats gave the same stats as a person that would runa marathon.

Im in basketball, tennis, swim, & track[[pole vaulting]]. And i can honestly say that marching band is DEFINATELY harder than tennis, physically, and mentally. Probably about as hard as basketball[[but ive been doing basketball for longer so maybe it just seems easier]]. Although the physical aspect of marching band is easier than track if you combine the physical and mental marching bands harder. [[seriously though, im propelling myself over a bar with a fiberglass pole..not many sports get harder in high school]]

it's not one of them 'sweat-so-hard-you-under-wear-is-wet' sports, but neither is archery, or hunting. Race-Car driving is considered a sport, and they hardly do anything physical.

I most definatly think that marching band is a sport. If golf, and chearleading can be considered a sport, then marching band is definatly a sport.

Definition of a sport: an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature. Band qualifies.

Anything aired on ESPN is probably a sport Since they air DCI on there too then i'd qualify marching band as a sport.
Poker on the other hand... Not a real sport.
