This is a placeholder for a Science fiction modfic I intend to write soon. The setting I'm going for will be far future, sometime in the 2800's. If you want to be in it, please give me a name that is appropriate for the setting.
The Players:
UEP- Consider it a far future version of the Roman Empire. As long as their member planets make with the tributes, they are more than happy to share technology and offer protection to member worlds. Their military is known for shooting first and asking questions maybe later, if they feel like it. It is rumored that the UEP Fleet emblem, a club against a blue field, is actually a upside down beer bottle, leading the despised nickname "Drunks".
Zelrathi- The other significant power in this neck of the galactic woods, the Zelrathi are the race that "uplifted" humanity to the stars. They are best described as sentient crystals, with a complex and largely unknown culture. They are a freindly, if detached, race. They often hire other races for exploration and defense, prefering to devote their time to intellectual pursuits. The only reason the UEP hasn't attacked them is this: Zelrathi technology is leaps ahead of theirs, and it isn't wise to irritate a race that are considered the main civilizing force in this part of the galaxy.
Independent- This is where you get your Han Solos, your Serenitys, and other such hard living types. most are just trying to make a semi-honest living, as mercenaries, miners, courtisans, the list goes on. Many live in the various none-aligned space stations that exist along Quasi-space routes.
The Cast: Mercs.: Rowan Bristol (Romuel) - Captain, Errant Venture Robin Zendrake(Moryera) - Company medical officer and combat medic. Kevin O'Shea(Alliance) - Leader, Wraith squadron Katane Kyo(Katane) - Astrogation and navigation officer William Black(Doi) - Leader, Ground team 2
UEP Taskforce Bravo: Gendou Ward - Captain, Shadow Hammer Kyraa Laureelle - XO

Fascinating. Who are the key individual players at this point of the story? Where's the conflict?

Romuel Fascinating. Who are the key individual players at this point of the story? Where's the conflict? As soon as I get premission to use names, I'll be more than happy to tell you. sweatdrop Ideally, the main story will center around an independant mercenary outfit, and what happens when they discover a intact, abandoned Zelrathi frigate. Imagine a locked box that was made by the Gods. Inside is the promise of more knowledge and power than any sapient being should have. that is basically what you have with this situation. Now imagine that the local military-industrial complex finds out a bunch of fringer mercs have what amounts to a "conquer this area of the galaxy free" card. It's been done to death, but so has everything else I think up. sweatdrop

As for the name of the mercenary ship, I have two competing ideas.
1). Errant Venture 2). Pulsar Skate
I'm leaning toward Errant Venture myself.

This is a pretty neat idea. I usually like "power that wasn't meant to be" stories. 3nodding How's "Keptan Akiran" for a name?
I like Errant Venture as a ship name more.

Kyraa Laurelle, mayhaps? :3 's the usual name I give, and if that doesn't work, Jillian something or other.
I'm going with bachelor name number 1.

Cassandra Diane or Frederick Norbert Peterson. If you use 'em both, they're twins, Cassi's firstborn.

Too few sci-fi epics, I say. And feel free to use Gendou (Ward?) in whatever limited capacity you choose.
