Comic Cons, Sci-Fi Cons, War Game Cons, Renaissance Festivals, Dickens Festivals, Colonial Days, Steampunk events, Lolita gatherings, reenactments and various other events. Does anyone here attend any of these or other non-anime gatherings? Tell us about it, post images if you'd like.
For myself, I've attended a Renaissance Festival in the Twin Cities, MN a half dozen times as well as participated in about a dozen SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism) events.

one vague attempt at a renfaire, two star wars cons, and many a comicon, but mostly anime cons on the schedule anymore.
oddly, most of my modeling awards come from comicon, those crazy non-otaku just seem to love scratchbuilt figurines out of sculpey. if only my witchblade one hadn't been irreparably damaged when some idiot decided to turn it upside down to see if it was a storebought figurine and dropped it.
tiny bits of metallic sculpey tentacles EVERYWHERE. crying i still cry to this day over her destruction.
also got tripped over by chewbacca at celeb 2 many years ago. the only reason i don't have pictures of mr. mayhew was because i dropped my camera when he ran into me from behind while we were both distracted staring at the giant lego yoda instead of watching where we were walking.
best part was his apology afterward:
"Sorry, I didn't see you down there! sweatdrop "
no, seriously, that's what he said. rofl
he is HUGE, by the way, i'm only slightly above elbow-height to the man and i'm 5'9.
anyhoo, i ramble, shutting up now.

No, don't shut up now! It's enjoyable to hear your rambling on your other con experiences. Especially ones such as Chewbacca's comment.
Star Wars cons, should have thought to add "Sci-Fi cons" to my poll list.

In the winter/spring here in Tampa there's the Bay Area Ren Fest (BARF - seriously, that's what it's called). Me and a friend go every weekend with our season passes. It's not a really great fest, but it's ok. I spend most of the day watching the musicians and hanging around the falconer. I might see if I can get a job there this season...

Ooooh, what a nice way to spend a season. If I lived closer to the Twin Cities and if I worked a regular work week I might enjoy such a season pass for the Ren. Fest. I attend.
Jobs there are fun I've heard. Never worked at one but I have been mistaken for someone who does due to dressing in garb.
Thinking of the amazing garb, and it's amazing expense, makes me realize just how spread out my hobbies and interests are. I really need to focus. sweatdrop

I should have picked "Two or more of the above..."
I just love going to gatherings! I do the Ren Faires, Civil War gatherings, and Victorian faires. I also go to Steampunk events when I can, and Lolita meet ups. I also go to Wondercon, which is Comic-Cons little brother, I guess. wink
