The Snow Covers All an SDRP Christmas RP Welcome one, welcome all to the SDRP Christmas RP, The Snow Covers All. No matter your role playing skill or experience, we would be honored if you would join us for a little bit of fun and mystery. This RP will continue as long as there are people posting regularly in it, or until the mystery is solved. You do not need a profile to join, but please read the entire post below before joining! Introduction
The sky is a pale, diffuse gray in the first strokes of morning light. The trail of an airplane offers some break to the smooth clouds. Off in the distance, darker grays gather, a portent of the coming storm. Those with their radios and TVs on would hear the forecast: Snow. It would be a white Christmas.
Soon children would be tumbling out in the newly falling snow, hurriedly bundled by tired parents. Coffee and hot cocoa would be the order of the day. Most stores would be closed, and most people would stay at home. It was a good thing, too, since the citizens of Haven Town were not used to snow and ice on the road, even during the winter. Most did not have snow tires, or four wheel drive, or any of the knowledge and experience to drive through the coming storm. They would wait for the snow plows to come.
Some would wake up to Christmas with the relief and joy that such holidays bring-- a few would wake up to a serious case of dejavu. These few would wake up, expecting it to be the 26th, yet finding the town around them still celebrating the 25th.
You see, Christmas has already happened in Haven Town. Snow from the day before still clings to the ground, yet it is one of the few indications that Christmas has already happened, since it didn't snow Christmas Eve. And for those who wake up knowing this, and hoping it is a fluke, they will soon understand that for some reason, every day, from here on out, will be "Christmas". The same airplane trail marks the sky, the same radio and TV programs play, and yet the snow gets thicker with each "Christmas" day. Worse than that, this is not a normal Christmas day. A certain Mrs. Blackwell, a hermit and a recluse, is not at home. Others have left the town for Christmas day, and that is no mystery, for each of them have family to visit out in the wide world. But what family has Mrs. Blackwell to visit, and how is it that her car is still in the drive? The police were alerted to a possible missing person on Christmas day-- the real one-- but of course, they have forgotten all about it.
Things You Need to Know
There will be fantasy elements in this RP, but your character must be from the "real" world. Haven Town is like a small town in the real world. That means that people have internet, text phones, etc. To play a character that is not under the spell of Christmas, your character must have left town on Christmas Eve. This could be to visit relatives or, for those who live on the edge of Haven Town, to do last-minute shopping. Good luck trying to go out of town or reach any one living outside of Haven Town. Trying to physically leave town is like trying to push against a wall of dizziness and forgetfulness. Trying to call out of town, or use the internet? You can only reach people who think it's Christmas-- somehow, you are calling into their real Christmas day. Sometimes the phones/computers go fritzy when you try to call out of town or get on the internet. Just as you cannot reach others outside of town, no townspeople or visitors who were gone all of Christmas can return. You are stuck in some sort of time loop, and no longer have a proper connection to real time in the rest of the world. You can convince spelled characters that they are under the spell, but they will forget once Christmas rolls around again. You heard me right; every new Christmas, the snow gets higher and higher. It will become harder to move around, the more days it takes for you to solve the mystery. Most physical things reset on Christmas. For instance, the food you ate is back in the fridge, uneaten. However, PEOPLE do not reset. If you bring a person to a different house, they will wake up there the next Christmas day. Spelled persons will try to reason away why they are waking up at the wrong house. Animals reset. You are encouraged to take up spelled persons as NPCs of your own. For instance, say your character lives with their two parents, who are both spelled. These two parents are your NPCs to play unless you make other arrangements.

Andrew tried once more to instant message his pen pal in Turkey. Once more, it just was not happening. His pal Sam down the street, though? No problem at all messaging that nut. Andrew didn't know what was wrong with that kid; he'd opened with Merry Christmas and kept insisting it really was still. Which was pretty stupid, really. He was supposed to believe that when he'd just opened his presents the morning before at butt crack o' clock in the morning yesterday? It had thrown off his whole sleep schedule; he was now awake at about the same time all on his own.
Suddenly there was a knock on Andrew's door and he rose to answer it. He immediately wished he hadn't; his dad was wearing that goofy Santa hat that was as old as Andrew himself and usually only came out of the closet for one day a year. "C'mon kid, it's Christmas! Don't you want to open some presents?"
Ok, now that was weird. His dad was all serious business about Christmas; he wouldn't join Sam's little prank. Would he? "Dad, you're not funny. Christmas was yesterday." No, his dad really wasn't kidding. His face looked totally confused. "Kid, you feeling okay? I have a tree full of presents that says it's Christmas today, buddy."
"Dad, look I've already got-" Andrew turns around to point at where he'd already put one of his pricier presents; a digital camera he'd been drooling over and saving for only to be surprised with it from his parents. The camera was not there. It was not anywhere that he could see. "Um. Yeah, maybe I'm feeling a little off today. But I'll be fine; let's go open those presents." Andrew gave in; apparently somebody put a lot of effort into this little joke, so he'd go with it until they were ready to stop goofing around.

(nifty first post! Ahaha, and I get the second)
Even though it was early in the morning, it wasn't long before Andrew's family got a call. His father shrugged as it rang, his eyes gliding over the caller ID. "It's the Gracies," he said as his wife shot him a curious look.
The Gracies didn't call often. They had a girl Andrew's age, who went to his school and was in a few of his classes, but Casey and Andrew weren't exactly best friends, and their parents weren't very close either. "Merry Christmas!" Andrew's father said as he answered the phone.
His look of confusion grew into a knowing, devious smile. "Oh, sure, Casey. He's right here." Andrew's father handed the phone to him.
Casey, on the other line, waited with a scowl and her fingers drumming on her knee. "Andrew! I don't know how you did it, but you and Sam have got to stop this prank! I get it! It's funny! Hahaha."

"Stuff it, Casey. It's got nothing to do with me." Andrew replied somewhat quietly as he strode out of the room with the cordless phone. His parents knew that he wasn't exactly close with Casey, but they wouldn't approve of him being rude all the same. "My parents rewrapped my presents and put them back under the tree. They must have sneaked into my room while I was sleeping. You're on your own; I can't even get my dad to crack a little."
Andrew was relieved to hear from Casey, for once. At least she wasn't part of this annoying little game. Though it was still annoying that she figured on blaming him. "I've already talked to Sam, too. He's going all out; will not budge on the whole 'No really, today is Christmas' thing. Very Groundhog Day." Did Sam even like that movie? He couldn't remember.

"You're whole family?" she echoed in disbelief. "I thought it was just my parents. Come on, a prank isn't worth this much!"
Casey let out a snarl of frustration accompanied by a thump-thump-thump that was probably her storming around her room. "Sam can't do this to me! I have to leave in just a few hours! He was supposed to come over!" Her voice wilted somewhat at the end. She hadn't meant to let Andrew in on her business, even if Sam was his friend.
"Well," she continued with more resolve. "I'm not putting up with this. I'm going over there, if I have to walk."

Well, at least that explained why Casey was so ticked off. Andrew was a little surprised, but decided it wasn't all that important to him what Sam and Casey were getting up to. "Good idea. Smack him around a little for me. I should go over and do it myself; I kind of don't want to play though this whole yay, Christmas morning again thing." It would be pretty silly to pretend he was surprised by the same stuff he opened yesterday.

Marissa woke up in a daze. There was something in the air about today that just seemed familiar. It was then that she realized that There was even more snow on the ground now, and her gifts from the day before were gone. "Bloody hell? What's going on here?" She said getting up out of bed, and walking across the room to do a quick inventory check of her room. Suddenly there was a knock on her door and then it burst open loudly to her dismay. Her two little brother's Wyatt and Drake ran into the room shouting at the top of their elementary school lungs "Merry Christmas Rissa!!" She wrapped their arms around her, and she smiled. It was just the way she was around them, but regardless she just couldn't shake off the words they had exlcaimed so easily.
"Christmas?" she asked them nonchalantly. "Are you sure it's Christmas this time, and not another holiday like...Easter?" she asked in a taunting way. The oldest boy, Wyatt, a fifth grader down at the local elementary school pipped up. "Of course it's Christmas, and as always you've slept through half of the presents getting opened up. I GOT A GUITAR!" He began to jump up and down. Drake, in the fourth grade this year, also got jumpy. His big blue eyes and big a saucers now he proclaimed, "AND I GOT A KEYBOARD!"
Like Marissa, her little brother's were musicians too going as far as acting in the school plays, though the days of elementary, middle, and high school were long behind her. College was her school now, and Music Education was her major, but having digressed from her main thought of what her brother's had said, she smiled. "And I bet I know what they look like too! Wyatt, I bet your guitar is the black and green Gibson that you'd been looking at, and Drake I bet you got the same keyboard as I got last year." She said with a wink that suggested that she'd been there when the gifts were bought. She didn't want to ruin this moment for her brothers even though she knew it wasn't Christmas yet again. "How about you two head back down stairs, and let me get my twenty year old self fully awake, and dressed. I'll be down shortly." She said smiling. Happy enough with that being said, they an out her door, and she ran to her computer seeing that Andrew and Casey were on.
Her fingers flying over the keys she typed out to Casey first:
"WHAT THAT BLOODY BARON IS GOING ON!? I mean like WTF!? My brother's just barged into my room, and proclaimed that it was Christmas yet AGAIN!? I just wanted to say GTFO and sleep a bit more. My gifts are gone, and I'm seriously thinking that I was robbed, but if they are all wrapped up again, some prank by my family wouldn't you say?"
Next she typed to Andrew:
"Dude! You will NOT believe what just happened. My brothers just came into my room, and said it's Christmas. WTF man? Call me asap if you get this. I want to discuss things with you about plans to check out that new horror flick at the mall today. ttyl!"
She had no idea if they were actually at their computers, but hey this was an odd start to her December 26th, and she was going to find out what was seriously going on. She unplugged her laptop, and got dressed, taking it with her down the stairs, and onto the couch to watch the rest of her family open their gifts, and re-open hers as well, even going as far as to easily feign excitement and surprise.

Meg woke up from an amazing dream to her boyfriend yelling at her to wake up. "Honey its Christmas! Lets go open gifts!" Dan said to Meg when he barged in her room. "What the hell are you talking about Dan! Christmas was yesterday. Let me sleep ok." Meg said to him while watching his face fall into a state of confusion. "Meg sweetie are you ok. Its Christmas. I dont know how you got that mixed up." He walked over to Meg and kissed her on her forhead. "Come on down stairs when you get dressed." Meg sat up and watched dan leave. She ran over to her computer and turned it on. She saw that Marissa and Andtew were online.
Meg typeped frantically on her keyboard:
"Marissa, Dan just woke me up claiming it was Christmas! What the hell!!! HAS HE GONE MAD!!!"
Then she typed to Andrew:
"WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON HERE??? Dan just woke me up and said that is was Christmas!! how can this be!!! im so confused! Did i agree to marry a nut job?... Yes i did way marry... He asked me yesterday on CHRISTMAS!!! but today the ring was gone!! Am i losing my mind?"
Meg waited for a response but got to frustrated staying away from Dan. She walked downstairs and sat on the couch. She wasnt quite sure what was going on. The presents were all wraped the way she had them the night before. She could tell they were wraped by her because the ones that Dan got his hands on were wraped like a 4 year old did it. She looked around and noticed that everything as exactly were it was the day before. Dan walked in holding the bottel of wine the drank yesterday. She noted that it was unopen. 'Ok now im starting to get wierded out.' Meg thought as she closed her eyes and took deep claming breaths.

An instant message popped up on her screen. Laying down the new Yamaha YCL650 clarinet her parents had bought her, she ticked away on her keyboard.
"Meg, yeah I know right!? MY PARENTS RE WRAPPED ALL THE GIFTS LAST NIGHT! Now, I know that I'm 20 years old, and that my brothers are still in elementary school, but come on. I lost my lust for Christmas years ago. Bring on Halloween everyday, and I'm golden. lol. but srsly, hit me back and let me know what's going on over there! Did he propose yet??? OH! and I told Andrew to call me b/c I want to go see that new flick, you know the horror movie? Yeah g2 make plans fo that one! g2g unless you're still there. peace out for now."
She placed her computer back on the couch, and picked up the next gift her brothers were handing her. Opening it, she feigned excitement once more as she saw the Artie Shaw Clarinet Jazz Concerto lay in front of her. "Thank you Wyatt, thank you Drakie." she said with a smile. All she wanted to do was be with Tristan, her fiance. Looking at the time she realized he'd be ringing the door bell any..DING! There he was. "I'll get it!" She exclaimed. Running to the door, she opened it, and smiled. "Hey baby." he said as he leaned down to kiss her on the lips. "Can we talk about something? It's not about us, but something else that I've noticed around town." He said nervously. Grabbing his hand she headed out the door with him. "It's happening here too. I've been re-opening my Christmas gifts for the past 2 hours or so. wtf?" She said to him leaning her head against his chest.

Andrew was not at his computer, no. He was opening his presents again. Thanking his parents. Again. Watching his parents be overly surprised... again? His mom even nearly dropped the same box she'd nearly dropped yesterday. Andrew begged off of Christmas breakfast, claiming he had a headache. It would be true if one more thing happened exactly like yesterday. Today was just way too weird.
When he got to his room and realized there were new messages on his computer, Andrew was actually relieved. that was different from yesterday; all his friends knew Christmas was pretty much the one day he wasn't going to be online at all. He was a little less relieved when he read the messages.
Andrew picked up his phone and dialed up Marissa. then he sat in front of hs computer to message Meg:
Don't ask me what's going on; almost everybody seems to be in on it. You, me, Marissa and Casey are so far the only ones not ready to break out the eggnogg and sing Feliz Navidad. It was just kind of annoying at first, but it's starting to get just plain weird.
What else could he say without sounding completely nuts? He was getting pretty well convinced that his parents, and everyone else claiming the same, really did believe it was Christmas. He began to type again.
I seriously have to ask, because this part is too weird for me; why would your fiance, my parents, Marissa's family and Sam all be in cahoots? It's not really the usual suspects, you know?

Marissa's father answered the phone as he passed through the kitchen. Saying hello, he told Wyatt to tell his dear older sister she had a phone call from Andrew. Doing as he was told, he ran over to the front door, and wrenched it open. "Rissa, phone for you. It's Andrew, you know, the fun one." He said laughing. Tristan looked at him and exclaimed, "I'm going to tickle you so much you wet yourself." Wyatt's eyes grew so large he ran through the house and up to his room laughing while Tristan followed playfully behind him leaving Marissa to go to her room, and grab the phone.
"Allo allo Andrew." She said in her fake Australian accent that never seemed to get passed anyone. "What's up? Anything new?" she asked her normal everyday questions to her friend. Marissa grabbed the news paper at the foot of her bed. Every morning, her mother brought it up for her before she left for her college classes over at the "ABC". The name of the school was actually Alderson Broaddus College, but everyone called it "ABC" for short. She read through the front page suddenly realizing half way through it that it was the same old drone she'd read yesterday. "Damn it all to hell this s**t is getting redonkulous!" she swore loudly forgetting that Andrew was on the other end. "Oh wow sorry! It's just this whole farce about it being Christmas again. even the NEWS PAPER is the same! GRRR!" she was getting a slight headache from all this repetitive s**t.

"Good on you then, what?" Andrew replied in his typically cheesy fake British accent. It made him grin; with a morning like this one a little silliness to distract him was welcome. Then he listened to the rest of what Marissa said and groaned. "Are you serious? The same exact newspaper? Yeah, it would have to be, wouldn't it... yesterday's paper wouldn't still be delivered today. I don't see the news people jumping in on this prank. Guess you'll have to go out and get your own. Or wait out this whole crazy Christmas again thing."

Marissa laughed at Andrew's British theme. "Yeah well I am SO not waiting this thing out. It's ridonkulous!" She said using the substitute word for ridiculous that she had stolen from the new kid's movie "Bolt". "If I have to hear one more Merry Christmas, I might just shoot myself or something. Speaking of killing, want to check out that new horror flick today? It's promised to be thrilling." She said in a a Michael Jackson Thriller rap kinda way. She needed to smile for real, and being with Tristan, and now talking to Andrew was making that happen.

"I'm definitely in. What time is the movie? I can meet you at the theater." Andre loved horror flicks. Most of them were so cheesy and unrealistic they doubled as comedy. two movies for the price of one; you sure can't beat that! And he would have taken almost any excuse to step outside of Groundhog Day Christmas.
