*Andel, City of Hope*

The limit of 10 active players has been reached, so do not apply for this Rp unless I spoke to you on PM prior to the Rp's closing. If I did so, then I'm still waiting for you to find the time to give the application process a fair shot.

Otherwise, this Rp is CLOSED.

User Image**History of Andel

For at least three hundred years, no living soul has left the great metropolitan city of Andel. Why would they? Danger and death is said to lurk outside the city, where the tortured countryside sports otherwordly creatures and the human race is either stamped out, or struggling to survive. It's much better to stay within the city. True, circumstances are far from perfect...nobles lap in luxury while the more common people struggle along in their daily life. But at least they have a life, daily - and that's something, after all. Nothing threatens their little heaven of a halcyon.

Or at least, that was the case until the troubling appearance of individuals titled Celestials by secretive government programs. These are people born, blessed or cursed with certain powers - ancient magics - or just basically extraordinary abilities. Although their presence has been quiet, they do exist powerfully as an underground rumor. Their name is mentioned most often as a tiding to send a child early to bed, lest their open eyes attract a Celestial's murderous hands.

The government knows them as much more than a figment of a child's frightening nighttime lullaby. It's said that they accumulate to at least .03% of the general population. What to do with such individuals is hardly agreed upon - destroy them on the grounds of their being a threat to society, use them in the fight against radical groups, or just pretend they never existed and wish them away with the same blissful ignorance that vanishes the monster in your childhood closet?

Those more knowledgeable about the phenomenon tend to be very extreme upon their views on the subject. The reasoning? Celestials will certainly not go away once ignored, and the evidence stands on an old legend impossibly predicting the insurgence of this genetical miracle. The Celestials, it hints, will break the ancient magic barriers that keep anyone from venturing outside the city. The barriers are the only magic anyone likes to admit, and for most, the possibility of their last protection breaking is a grim vision of reality indeed.

Whatever the case, it's not a good time to be a Celestial.

User Image**The Organizations

*Andel Government Special Agency (AGSA): This is a program dedicated to the research of Celestial developments. A lot of time and energy is devoted to pinpointing new Celestials. Treatment of Celestials depends entirely on the official who runs that particular case. Although the official mission statement is to merely interview and then monitor the Celestial, and perhaps later ask for help from said Celestial, there are some officials who would much rather contribute time to ridding the world of the Celestials they find. No screening of employees is made, so a Celestial has about a 50/50 chance of surviving an encounter with this agency.

*Chrest: There isn't much that can be said in moral approval of this scientific organization. Most of the time they perform bizarre studies on Celestials that are found. Even the Andel Government generally disapproves, but the organization has done a very good job of falling off the radar.

*Freedom Movement (more commonly known as FM): Not everyone is as generally accepting of the caste system, nor especially the noble's unfair treatment of others. Although thought to be crushed at one point in time, Isis has been making a quiet recovery in the limelight. Their relationship with Celestials is simple: the more, the better. They intend to throw a wrench into the Andel government machine any way they can, and having psychics blow up stuff is not a bad idea in the slightest.

*Isis: This would be the only truly pro-Celestial group in existence, probably because the membership is comprised entirely of Celestials. Despite the stereotype and prejudice, Celestials are merely unordinary human beings with just as much kindness and cruelty intermixed as anyone else. In order to defend themselves, they formed this secret society that doubles as a therapy session and a bodyguard service for new Celestials (mostly from Chrest and the AGSA).

User Image

User Image**Types of Celestials

*Elemental: These are the more traditional magic weilders. They usually prescribe to one of the following elemental strengths (limit runs to two elemental combinations): wind, water, fire, earth, darkness, light, metal.

*Psychic: A psychic individual sort of possesses the 8th element: mental. It's standard operation of the term. These people can move objects, see into the future, and soothsay the truth of situations.

Nobody can be an Elemental and a Psychic, and Elementals only have two elements. Thank you.

This is the sign-ups thread, so we're not actually Rping here. I'm going to wait for about five people to join (besides myself) and then we'll start the story. In order to join, you must post your character in this thread, having described them in the following format:

User Image**Rules

1.) Follow the rules. I consider this rather simple, and its implications broad. Breaking one rule automatically means you're breaking two, which I consider a rather unhealthy development for your status in the Rp.

2.) For the love of god, don't godmode. I won't elaborate. Everyone here probably knows what I'm talking about.

3.) Cursing and racism is to be left at the door. Understandably, the former issue can become complicated, oh say when your character is about to die, and you don't want their last words to be "Oh golly gee whilikers!" Hell or damn is perfectly acceptable given the situation, but the f-bomb does not exist in this world. As for the latter...there is simply no excuse.

4.) There is a minimum of three sentences per post. But a lot more detail can only be described as beautiful to my eyes.

5.) Don't fill out half the character sheet and say you're in the Rp. They don't take that long.

6.) To the same token, follow the restrictions placed in the Organization and Celestial Type segments.

7.) Don't argue with me or other players, unless you really, really feel you're justified. Just be nice to people.

8.) You are allowed four characters. Anyone else is probably a NPC.

9.) Have fun! Or else.

~Euphoric Ghost as Thessaly "X"

Tessera "Tess"

*Relationships*
Updated 3/21

Deirdre and Mizumi and Korin are members of Isis, as well as good friends.

Samuel and Hiram are disgruntled partners (disgruntled because they're partners) in AGSA. They work for Adrienne, who is in cahoots with Crosse, the leader of Chrest. Tessera, another AGSA operative, works by herself, on the grounds that she'd probably eventually kill any partner she eventually gained.

So, Crosse is the leader of Chrest, and the boss of these two guys: Ailsean and Laurence.

Duncan and Izanami are members of FM, of which Thessally is a predominant leader. Duncan's sister is actually Deirdre, not that anybody can be bothered to remember that.

Luca and Parafli are both male, anti-social, loner Celestials who work for nobody but themselves. Accordingly, they're both acquainted and can't stand each other.

Sal is another loner Celestial...and she just might have killed Hiram's son.

Hiram, however, is not the only AGSA agent with a vendetta. A Celestial killed Tessera's entire family, and her efforts for revenge against all Celestials have brought her on a manhunt against Kimi, a wide-eyed little girl.

Well, at least we know that Luca killed Sazuko, and that's just 'cause he's clumsy.

Ooh! I like this rp already! Very interesting.

Name: Sazuko

Age: 17

Race: Celestial

Celestial Type: Elemental (wind and fire)

Organization: none

Ocupation: Assasian

General Appearance: avatar except without the tail and fox ears

General Personality: Sazuko is the mysterious, outgoing type, who is very easily maddened. One insult, and watch out! She'll easily plot revenge on you. Wether she slits your thoat, cuts off your foot, or just steal your TV from your house depends on what crime you commited on her. She's very rash, and loves speed and a nice joyride.

History: Sazuko used to think she was a mutant. Only until later on the news that she found out she was Celestial. No one suspects her to be one. She used to have a boyfriend; his name was Lucien. He was a quiet type, hardly ever smiled, and was the sweetest man anyone could ever meet. He was the only one Sazuko ever told that she was a Celestial. However, when she told him, he was stunned. He even broke up with her. And then the rumors began. There was only one thing Sazuko could do-murder him. Since then, no public has ever known she murdered him, but underground, everyone knows Sazuko now as a assasian. Ever since she killed him, she has been through the cold rush of having to kill. And doing it for money, well that's just an extra plus. So far, no average human has stopped her and her Celestial powers. EVeryone who knows she has them has died. But who knows. Maybe someday, someone will escape, and tell the world. Or perhaps, they beat her in a fight. Or even worse...She won't have the heart to kill them...

Optional Ideas...

Best Skill: Sazuko uses her two powers, fire and wind, to create a fire tornado, wiping everything out in a fast speed. She calls her attack Winged Dragon.

Worst Skill: Running. Sazuko was never a good runner, always concentrating on something other then her athletics. She perfers to kill her enemies in traps, in a slow torchuring manner. She has always concentrated on her powers rather than her athletics.

Quote: none.

I like the bio (and your comment that the Rp sounds interesting), but does your character look exactly like your avatar? sweatdrop There's no fox people in this universe...although it does make your avatar look rather cute.

EDIT: Gah, I just changed the original post to include Occupation in the character application. Obviously the one person that joined doesn't have to worry about it...your character's just an assassin. But how could I forget that pivotal detail? stressed

2ND EDIT: Gah, I also forgot Isis, the most important organization! Where is my head???

OOC: Oh yeah. *dies* I totally forgot about the fox ears and tail. ^^;;; I'll edit it.

Woohoo! I'm interested in this one-- I just have to think up a character and get in gear!

PS. I want to be the (AGSA) agent who interviews Sazuko xp
PostPosted: Thu Jan 13, 2005 8:08 am

Go ahead! I'm probably going to play two characters (for plot purposes, I usually play a "good guy" and a "bad guy" who are enemies...that way, there's a constant source of conflict that other characters can get involved in):

1) A Celestial, maybe a member of Isis

2) A leading official in AGSA that would probably be your character's partner - very anti-Celestial, responsible for many deaths

That's me, lighting up butts in 2005. And not even a smoker. Now...indeed, it looks like Sazuko is in loads of trouble.

My early version of a character when I first made this Rp was this stout older guy (played by a very young, short girl... eek ) who had a bizarre mean streak a mile wide when it comes to Celestials because one of his children had been killed by a Celestial boyfriend/girlfriend. I'm serious!

So things worked out interesting. Of course, the father of Sazuko's boyfriend wouldn't know her by face or even name. He was not immediately close to his son at the time and didn't know much about his social life. Anyway, that sparked an interest that eventually persuaded him to join AGSA, and since then he's been responsible for several deaths of innocent Celestials. You could say he's the villain.

Still rather foggy about my Isis member.

And if you're looking at this thread, and feeling indecisive, allow me to help.

Join! whee .... sweatdrop Pretty please?
PostPosted: Fri Jan 14, 2005 6:41 pm

Hello! I'd like to join!! (and play two characters, cause I'm greedy. sweatdrop )

Name: Mizumi

Age: 19

Race: Celestial

Celestial Type: Elemental, water and tiny hint of wind

Organization: Isis

Occupation: Organizes rescue attempts from AGSA and Chrest.

General Appearance: Long black hair that is almost blue in certain lights, which she keeps tied up in a single braid down her back. Blue eyes. Taller than average, very thin.

General Personality: She's got a very logical mind, and is very good at planning. Sometimes she can be given three or four clues and can have the puzzle already solved. She's intelligent, sweet, and usually good at giving advice, though awful at taking it. She can plan confrontations, but she's not good at actually confronting people. Very quiet when around those she doesn't know well, and can only talk comfortably with a few select people. Very seldomly leaves Isis suroundings, as she is afraid of other people.

History: Her family discovered very young that she was Celestial. They were horrified, of course, but couldn't bear to give their child to the government. She was left on the porch of one of the Isis organization's fronts, which her parents had found though lots of covert searching, then quickly forgot. Mizumi knows none of this, and just assumes she was always with Isis. She has developed her water powers, but rarely uses them to fight, preferring to help people by bringing water to their crops or causing rain when there has been a drought.

Optional Ideas...

Best Skill: Organization, finding ways to stop AGSA and Chrest.

Worst Skill: Personal skills, interacting with people on an emotional level, and confrontation.

Quote: You'd think with all those scientists working there, they'd have some measure of decent security!

And the other character:

Name: Duncan Herald

Age: 20

Race: Human

Organization: Freedom Movement

Occupation: Gathering Information, includes spying, talking to contacts, questioning people who have been kidnapped

General Appearance: Tries to look as inconspicuous as possible. He has short brown hair, brown eyes, and dresses plainly.

General Personality: Very good actor. He can be sweet and kind one moment, rash and obnoxious another, and cruel and uncaring the next. The only characteristic that seems to be consistant is that he is slightly unconfortable around Celestials, just because he doesn't understand them, and he doesn't intend to. When he is not working, he is often sarcastic and sounds almost bitter.

History: Not much of one. He grew up in an underprivileged house, and worked for an overprivileged one. The things that once mattered to him, his parents and younger sister, are now gone, his parents dead and his sister missing. (Sister is not Mizumi, just leaving opportunity open for other RPers if they want. smile ) He didn't like AGSA, and liked the opportunities that FM provided for him.

Optional Ideas...

Best Skill: Being whoever he wants to be or anyone else wants him to be at any moment

Worst Skill: Any kind of combat. He would prefer to get the info and slip away than have to fight for it. He can adequately defend himself for a short period of time, but is rarely in that situation.

Quote: The best things in life are those you have to steal, cheat, and lie to get.

((To see a bigger picture of Deirdre, click the icon: User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. ))

Name: Deirdre O'Hara

Age: 19

Race: Celestial

Celestial Type: Psychic (Abilities: Some visions like a seer might have, and the ability to push objects - not move, push, like a pounding motion - very challenging to control)

Organization: Isis

Occupation: Isis Agent

General Appearance: Because of the testing done at Chrest as well as her natural abilities, her hair has gone prematurely white. She usually keeps it back in a ponytail, because it feels frivolous when it's loose. Her eyes are quite normal, except for their coloring, and that is only a sign of her rebellious streak towards conformity: they're contacts, her actual eyes being blue. Red and purple are her two favorite colors, so she sees no reason not to show them off.

General Personality: Considering the type of life a Celestial is often bound to lead (one of frustrating isolation for many), Deirdre is an uncharacteristic, outgoing and charismatic oddity among them. Deirdre can be seen yelling at a younger recruit for rash action, and then doing the same thing, citing that she is more experienced and therefore totally justified. Deirdre has a way of twisting logic to exclude her from the circumstances, which is another aspect of her personality - she is clever.

History: Deirdre's powers have been subtly evident ever since she was a young child. When a particularly nasty nanny attempted to impose a time-out after a screaming tantrum, her mother returned to find the living room door pounded into wood splinters. The nanny never spoke much of the incident; she truthfully admitted that she was out of the room when the breaking of the door would have occurred; but she never did agree to baby-sit young Deirdre again. The nightmares Deirdre experienced around the same time also frightened her parents, especially when she had a dream about a family friend dying - when the last time she saw him he was in perfectly good condition - several days before it happened.

Her family was impoverished, mostly servants working for an older family. When certain members of that older family gained wind of her extraordinary powers, fearful, they sent her to Chrest when she was around thirteen. She hasn't seen her brother, Duncan, since.

While Deirdre learned a lot about utilizing her powers and the war that was breaking out around and over Celestials, the treatment of "her alien kind" (as often elaborated within the laboratory walls) was not quite beneficial. Honestly, she got off rather easy. Within two years she'd staged an escape from the place, and the worst level of experiments she'd reached was pounding objects until she nearly fainted (not easy for her, considering she can only really do it about three times a week).

The real tragedy was that she could no longer trust anyone, and felt that she had to go into hiding. It wasn't enough. A Chrest official chased her and a couple other escapees, and it was when their lives were threatened that she found no difficulty in pounding that individual into a busy road, despite the fact that she'd used her abilities eight times that week already.

After that messy incident, Isis became aware of her and she was of course recruited. With the eventual goal of destroying all Chrest facilities - and the immoral practices sometimes seen in AGSA - Deirdre worked hard enough to become one of the best members of Isis. She formed a steady friendship with Mizumi, and because she tries to forget her past, she doesn't remember much about her original family.

Best Skill: Gauging a situation's danger level and hidden truth

Worst Skill: Listening to said judgements; even getting her powers to work half the time; foreign languages

Quote: "I have always thought that fear was the enemy - when it lashes out against Celestials, and when we can't control it ourselves."

~***~

Name: Hiram Matthews

Age: 51

Race: Human

Organization: AGSA

Occupation: Interviewer/Prosecutor

General Appearance: Old and stout, his stocky build harkens back to a better day when he was a top athlete and policeman. He has graying white hair and dark eyes, and a very prominent beard. Lately his appearance is mostly disheveled, due to the fact that he's far too busy worrying about Celestials to waste much time or energy on what he considers more trivial and frivolous activities.

General Personality: Whatever personality Hiram had is mostly gone, although he does still exist as a streetwise, prejudiced, and complaining older man. The violence that was sedated so long in his personality comes out whenever he is even a block away from a Celestial, and lately he thinks everyone is a Celestial, mayhap even his new partner. He dislikes having a younger man for his partner - finds it disrespectful due to his time and experience being a policeman (although admittedly his time at AGSA has been rather short) - and often finds the man's moral code and bookish nature rather...well, weak. He does have a soft spot for raising canaries; the man hides a long-lost kind nature within his scratchy exterior.

History: Hiram is the typical Joe of Andel City. He married when he was young, had children sometime thereafter, and worked a normal beat as a policeman. He was always gruff and distant, however, which is perhaps why his only son never seemed to display much affection for him. When he mysteriously died, and some members of AGSA showed up to question the family, Hiram immediately suspected that considerably more was at work than meets the eye. He became obsessed, until he had learned the truth of the Celestials and the AGSA situation. Of course, he immediately signed up.

In the years since, he has killed many a Celestial, every time thinking that maybe, maybe, they were the ones responsible for his son’s death. He secretly fears that he is truly at fault, having distanced his son from him so much that it was only natural he get into trouble, and it is when he starts to suspect that when he immediately throws himself more into his work. He commands incredible respect at AGSA, if for his drive and nothing else.

Best Skill: Making the facts align in a mystery

Worst Skill: Feeling moral regret for his treatment of Celestials

Quote: "There may be some that call me a cranky old man, but I prefer the term 'last sane person in this damned city'."
