About The Conservatory / Plot
The Jackson-Mablebrook Conservatory is one of the premier music and art conservatories in the world. It is known internationally and is located in Fair Oaks, California. The conservatory (often referred to the J&M Conservatory) accepts only the most talented and passionate artists and musicians into their school. If accepted, the student will be given a full scholarship that can lead them anywhere in life. The conservatory spans through 50 acres, which includes a small lake, sprawling hills and the most beautiful sights that the country can give. It is also located conveniently next to Sacramento, so all of the buzz and lights of the city are still available to students.
Every student has to take at least 3 educational courses each semester. If they choose to, they can take more. They also must have at least 5 courses of their talent (music or art) each semester. Only in their senior year may the student take whichever 5 or more courses they choose to take.
But of course in such a competitive school like the J&M, students will do almost anything to get ahead of their classmates. If a student is not competitive, then they will most likely be too in love with what they do to notice anyone else. However, if the student does not show an adequate amount of ‘disciplinary passion’ (as the conservatory calls it), then they face expulsion, and the same goes if they disregard their educational duties.
Art and music students are expressive and passionate and are willing to do whatever it takes to give them that little something extra in their work or in their music. Whatever it is: drugs, sex, scandal, lies, teacher/student relationships, you name it, they will do whatever it takes to move on through.
So when the orchestra needs a concertmaster, what will the violinists do? What will the other orchestra members who favor one player over the other do to help their preference?
When the student museum is offering to show a collection of a student’s work at the MoMA (Museum of Modern Art), what lengths will the students go to to give themselves the edge that they need?
Passion drives a dangerous, speeding car. You better make sure that your brakes are working, because if they’re not, you might not be able to stop.
