Middle school band. Of course it's bad.
Ok, tonight was the Christmas parade. Not bad. It would help if I liked my section, of course... My section is: 4 trombones, 2 baritones, 1 tuba, and then me. I play trombone and baritone, and I am not counting myself in either number. Preacher (I think his real name is Josten) - He's first trombone in 7th grade, and second in the school. I hate him. Mnason- He's really cool. He's not incredible at trombone, but he's one of my good friends, and it's nice talking to him. (7th grade) Keith- He plays trombone, and he's good. He moved here this year, so he's considered last chair since he was not there for chair tryouts. (7th grade) He's pretty cool, and I can tolerate him. Harrison- He joined this year, he's one of my best friends... I still haven't taught him how to play trombone yet, but I promise I'll work on him. Dominic- I don't like him. Baritone. Tremayne- He's cool, and I pretty much can tolerate him. And he hates Preacher, so cool. But he's terrible at baritone. Matt- You know about him. He's that guy that you hate, but he's still your friend. He doesn't talk about me and Hannah anymore, so it's cool, basically. But if he starts again... it'll be bad. Sousaphone, he's good. He can't remember fingerings every once in a while, but he's just started sousa.
Ok, it's obvious I hate Preacher. He's a stalker. He stalked Hannah a few weeks ago. So we don't like him (and Hannah really doesn't).
Lines. Band veterans know how to make those. Others don't. Our band is mainly people who don't. Tempo.... there's a mello player who doesn't know that.
Music. People don't know that. I stopped playing for a measure cause my arm was hurtin like hell (my right arm, oddly. It doesn't even hold the bari..). So I caught my breath, and was about to start playing again, and what did I hear? ............................................................................................ ............................................................................................ ............................................................................................ Yeah, nothing. No one was playing. (Well, I think fluties and clarinets were. Oh, and percussion.)
Pissed me off.
Then Gary (the BD) said "Lay your hats flat" and I waited to get on the bus, cause I wanted to talk to high schoolers and stuff. I got on the bus, THE HATS WERE IN A CRAPPY PILE THAT HAD NO ORDER WHATSOEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (sorry for caps)
I spent like 15 minutes straightening a pile of like 100 hats so we wouldn't get yelled at. Cause I don't like gettin yelled at. During that, the other half of the band got on the bus and threw their hats at me and walked away.
Pissed me off.
That's why I'm the only one that cares.

Maybe it'll get better when you hit high school. It was for me. All the stupid a**wipes who didn't care in middle school quit.

that is just how i felt last year (8th grade). only a few of us actually cared enough to practice and play well while the others just expected band as an excuse to get out of classes and talk to friends. luckily this year (freshman year in high school) i am in the higher up band where about 95% of all the kids care and practice. its so much better! just hold on and wait til high school.

I felt the same during Marching season this year. I am the only one in my section that dedicates all of their spare time to the band. We are a section of 7 mellophones. (Yes, i know that's huge) My section leader would only make you run if you were late and he didn't schedule any extra practices until the day before our last competition. I honestly envied my boyfriend because he had a section leader who was always scheduling extra practices. My section was constantly messing up on major places where we had melody with the alto saxes and my SL didn't do anything.
