The only access to the basement was from outside the house, around the corner from the back porch. Branches of a wysteria bush clung to its metal entrance. The double doors were old, perhaps older than herself. Years of weathering had aged the paint and Wolfie took note that it had been repainted several times, maybe by Edmund, but more likely much longer ago by Tom. The deep blue-green color hung limp amidst the brilliant leaves at its base. Small cobwebs stuck to the corners of the house where the boards were damp and ripe for crawlie things.
Once the doors were open, narrow concrete steps led down into a cave of darkness. However, a lightswitch at the bottom of the stairs resolves the darkness into dim illumination. Weak bulbs, coated with the grime of disuse, were scattered across the ceiling at regular intervals. The basement was as wide and long as the house, mostly just a wide open space. Various odds and ends leaned against the walls or stood in piles, ancient cobwebs decortating them in halloweenish lace. The corners, however, remained in shadow.

The darkness beyond the stairs greedily swallowed up her tiny flashlight beam, gobbling it up as if it were nothing more than a dying glowstick. The beam did flash against a lightswitch on the stair wall at the bottom, so when she reached that point, she dubiously flicked it upwards. To her pleasant surprise, light did indeed illuminate the room, though only dimly.
Morgana tiptoed down behind her, eyes wide. "Wow Momma, this is creepy." She padded down to the floor and went to nose a pile of something cloth-like, and promptly sneezed, stirring up a haze of dust. Hastily she backed away, tucking her hindquarters against Talencia's legs.
On light catfeet, Rotan sauntered past, whiskers canted in a smirk. "Good going, Sneezy," he meowed, aiming for some boards leaning up against the nearby wall. Tail waving lazily, he swept his whiskers forward, lightly sniffing of them without stirring a mote. Lost in his exploration, he followed the edge of one board up, then back down, then around behind, looking as if he had some sort of trail-detecting sensor in his muzzle. Soon he disappeared from sight behind the cluster of planks.

Gloriana walked down the stairs and looked around the basement. "What a creepy dump." She whispered. She walked over to one of the walls that had some boxes just sitting there. "Hm.... What's in here?" She said trying to peek in. However she was having a hard time opening the box.
Nanami looked around wishing there was more light. "Too bad there's no more light coming from the light bulb." She said looking around. She walked over to Morgana and smiled. "Want to explore with me?"
Kurogane walked down the stairs and looked around unimpressed. It looked like a dirty old basement to him. He watched as the cat wandered off sniffing. "So what are we looking for down here?" He asked.

Timmy followed with wide eyes. He'd heard there was an adventure going on, but this was more than he'd imagined. "Cool!" He said, looking back at his sister happily. Tilly was just as excited as her little brother. She wasw always up for something new and exciting, and this definitly qualified. It didn't matter to her that they had no idea what was going on, that they didn't know why they were exploring a basement. There where other wolves here too, so it wasn't so scary to her. "Hey!" She called to the big anthro in the dark clothes, trotting up next to him. "What are we looking for?"

Saiyoko yipped gratefully over at Tal, recieving a prompt snort from Meskhenet. She was startled by a sneeze and chuckled, "Bless you!" She barked over, kindly. She saw the purple one from before struggling with a box and went over next to her, happy now that the light was on. "Need some help?" She offered in a friendly way, "I'm Saiyoko"
The light seemed...out of place in a room like this, so she snorted at Saiyoko's utter relief. She looked around for a companion and began examining the walls, grinning a big smile of teeth to each cob-web she crossed, stifling the sneezes that rose in her own chest.
Yoshi dind't like this place. It didn't seem right here. He wished he'd stayed with his human....however annoying she may have been. He whined at Tal, hoping for some comfort, and someone to distract him from this.

Talencia glances around, settling the pack on her back more comfortably. It certainly was a glum looking area, but not particularly frightening. "C'mon down, Wolfie, it's safe, I promise." And indeed, there weren't actually all that many bugs visible. Most of the webs were old and had collected as much dust as the rest. She absently petted the pup whining for attention before glancing down to see who it was. "Oh hello," she smiled. "I don't think I've met you before." She stroked his head and then tickled under his chin. "No worries, lil one. There are too many of us here for the boogie man to appear. You are safe as... as...," she unexpectedly blanked on what to say they were as safe as. "Safe as a chick in a nest," she finished somewhat lamely, but enthusiastically. "We'll look after you." With a final pat to his head, she turned to examine the contents of the room.
Morgana had glared after the sassy cat when her attention was caught by someone new. An offer to explore together made her p***k her ears. "Sure, that'd be great. I'm Morgana," she barked, tail wagging amiably. She resolutely turned her muzzle away from where the cat had gone and instead headed for a distant corner, where a large old wrdrobe loomed, doors hung crookedly.
When he reached the bottom of the stairs, Sirius nuzzled Rosangela reassuringly. "Look, it's not as dark as it might have been," he comforted her. He paused to observe as the others scattered here and there, nosing about curiously. He glanced at Tal, then padded to one side of the stairway, antennae glowing softly in the shadows. "I wonder too what we are looking for," he murmured only loud enough for his companion to hear. "Do you see anything interesting?"
Rotan, meanwhile, was still out of sight. But he'd found something. Sitting down, he did the very enigmatic thing that any cat would do. Instead of going to fetch someone or shouting what he'd found, he merely sat there and meowed wordlessly and loudly. By catly reason, either someone would come and investigate properly, or they would miss out. He'd have told you it was of no consequence to him, but in truth he truly did want someone to come look.

Yoshi nodded and licked Tal's hand, "Yoshi." He nodded; that was all he was able to 'say'. He then padded around like the others...not sure at all what to look for, let alone where to start.
Meskhenet's ears instinctively flattened against her head when she heard the non-stop, obnoxious meowing of a cat. With a snaral she wormed her way through the boards to it, "What is it?" She tried to keep her voice calm...but sort of failed at it. She took a deep breath to keep her ears and tone in check, then looked back curiously at the cat.

Gloriana finally opened the box only to discover it was filled with old dusty papers and a notebook or two. "Ah... ah... ahchoo!" She sneezed after snorting at her find, "What a worthless bunch of dust."
Nanami smiled and wagged her tail at Morgana. "I'm Nanami." She said following the other wolf to the wardrobe, "Wow. This looks really old and broken." She hesitantly touched one of the doors and watched it swing open.
Kurogane glared (it's his usual uncaring glance that looks like a glare) at the female that was talking to him. "Why do you think I would know that?" He asked before walking away. That dumb cat's meowing was driving him nuts! He walked around the planks and looked at the cat. "What are you going on about?" He asked before spotting what Rotan found, "...... What is that?!"

Canines could be such surly things. Rotan gave first one, then the other wolf withering looks. They had come at him from either direction, so at least the bases were covered. He had stopped meowing when they'd stuck their heads in. Now that he had their attention he continued to be enigmatic. Instead of answering them, he lifted one paw dramatically, pausing with it held high.
Pinning the male with a wide-pupiled stare, he brought his paw down sharply three times, striking the floor beneath his paws. Instead of the solid, cold sound of pads slapping concrete, what was heard was a hollow tap. Looking smug, his tail came up to wave triumphantly as he strolled past the female wolf and back out into the 'open' air of the basement. Calmly he went to sit beside Talencia and began grooming the cobwebs from his ears.
Morgana's ears pricked forward as th wardrobe door swung open with a piercing squeal. "What have we here?" She stood up on her hind legs and put her forepaws on the edge of the open door. She stuck her head into the dark space rustled around, and emerged with an old cowboy hat in her jaws. She grinned at her new friend and tossed it in the air lightly, catching it atop her head at a jaunty angle. "What do you think?" She flashed a grin at Nanami. "There's more in there! Have a look!" She set all four paws back on the concrete floor and sauntered in a saucy circle. "Howdy pardner," she told her dusty reflection in a large mirror that had earned a few cracks in its day.

Timmy watched his sister hop away and shook his head. That girl just couldn't sit still for a moment. He himself wandered along after the human. As awesome as the basement was, he wanted to be near someone. He suddenly fixated on the cat cleaning itself. What was a cat here for? They were such odd creatures, and he still hadn't decided on whether he liked them or not. Tilly blinked a few times. "'Cause you were here before me! Duh!" She barked at the anthro's retreating form and shook her head. Maybe someone else would know? She hopped over to Saiyoko and Gloriana. "Hey, do you two know what we're down here for? Rosangela accepted the comforting nuzzle happily. "I guess you're right." She said hesitantly. It was still a bit dark for her. The weak bulb and random flashlight seemed to give the dusty air a slight glow. A rather interesting but eerie effect in her eyes. She followed closely to Sirius. "You mean besides you?" She asked playfully, nosing at his cheek. "The only stuff down here is old and dusty... It's all interesting." She admitted with a giggle and pawed at a pile of rags on the floor, yelping when something dark scuttled from it, most likely a spider. "Did you see that!?" She practicly yelled as she ran to hide behind Sirius and peek back at the pile from around his legs. "It was huge!"

Wolfie eased down the stairs, Squish tucked under one arm, her pack slung around the other. She cautiously eyed the ceiling beams as hatchway engulfed her frame one, two, three steps down. A heavy breath was slowly released and Wolfie noted that perhaps Tal was right. The webs were old and nothing clung to their tacky surface but dust. The air in the basement was thick and moist from years of being locked up. And though dank, the overall basement was quite comforting. The way it had been built would allow for quite a recreational room or even some additional rooms to be created from the one for more bedrooms if ever needbe. The bottom stair creeked and jolted Wolfie back from her daydreaming of future housing construction projects. Add that to the list! She thought enthusiastically.
Squish wriggled free of her grasp and went running after Rotan, Spud not too far behind. A small commotion was emitting from one edge of the room and she wondered what was so interesting so soon. "I think the Moonlits are onto something." Wolfie called to Tal, waving her over. Just then, Roseangela had spotted something of her own. With a yip and a squeak, something dark scuttled across the room. Most likely a spider! "I told you there were spiders down here," Wolfie huffed dramatically and cringed, sliding closer to her friend.

Gloriana looked over at Tilly and shrugged. "Who knows." She said, "We're down here exploring and searching for something." She then realized she could look at the adult in the eye without raising her head. Huh. Looks like I grew. She thought with a smile.
Nanami shook her head at what Morgana first said. "I have no clue Morgana. It must have some old...." She said trailing off when Morgana stuck her head in and came back with an old hat, "Hats! And maybe there's some old clothes too!" She grinned at her new friend and nodded. "It looks great on you." She said chuckling. She then stuck her head in and looked around. It was only a little dusty, tickling her nose. She felt something soft hitting the top of her head and grabbed it. Pulling it out into the faint light she saw she had grabbed a silk scarf. "Ooo look at this!" She said wrapping it around her neck.
Kurogane stared at the cat unamused. "Will you just tell us....." He said before Rotan struck the ground. He heard the different sound that came from the ground and frown. "Well that's different." He said raising his voice, "I think the cat found something of interest of over! You may want to come over here to see." He then bent down and began to inspect the ground. Perhaps there was a trap door.

Meskhenet's fur rose as the small creature walked by, but she kept her disposition. She looked at the anthro in scilence, then put her nose to the ground and started sniffing around near the different sound. The anthro was so biig! She tried not to notice.
Saiyoko was a bit offended when she didn't get a reply from Gloriana, but it quickly faded while she slipped into a daydream of what they might look for. She noticed another was talking to her, and smiled brightly, half-dazed, "Anything...mysterious!" She wagged her tail. This was like a ghost story coming to life. She padded over to Tal and Wolfie, "Gloriana found some documents." She announced and padded back.
That looked like fun!! Yoshi loped over to Nanami and Morgana, intruding rudely, but he failed to skid to a stop; his claws scratching the floor as he tumbled into a wall. "Yooo-oo-oosh..." He whined.

Sirius nearly jumped when Rosangela squealed, but held himself firm as she darted behind him. He glanced back at her with amusement, tickling her with his tails. "I suppose it's natural for one of your kind to be afraid of them... they plot to trap fluttery sorts, don't they?" Though his words were mocking, his tone was sympathetic and his gaze gentle. "If another one pops out, shall I squish it?" He raised one very large paw and wiggled his toes in suggestion, smiling wickedly all the while. Somehow, with her nearby, he tended to forget the others.
Morgana grinned, tipping her head back to peer out from under the hat's brim. "Ooooh, very stylish! What else do you suppose...?" She again lunged towards the open wardrobe. But as another Moonlit, with a strange unshaggy appearance, came sliding across the floor into her, she lost her balance and fell into the wardobe's interior, bumping it hard. A series of clinks indicated that several somethings small and glass hit the hard concrete floor. Just the sound made Morgana yelp and sunk her belly in, raising up on her hind paws with both front paws raised high and she danced backwards instinctively, nearly falling over Yoshi. Whatever it was didn't break, however, but merely rolled about with an odd gait, wobbling along. There were three of them, glinting faintly in the dusty light. "Shinies!" Morgana, overcoming her fright, leapt for one of them, paws closing over a solid glass object.
Talencia chuckled and linked arms with Wolfie. "Oh, you goofy girl. A house full of drooling, slavering, sharp fanged wolves, and yer afraid of daddylonglegs." Her smile was warm and reassuring, however, and she did not move to let go of her arm. "C'mon, it looks like they might have found something over here." She moved towards the moonlits gathered behind some boards leaning against the wall.

Gloriana looked around bored already. Wasn't there something to do here? She looked around and noticed everyone busy in their own exploring. She sighed and looked at the two females with her. "It's boring already...... Where should we go and look?"
Nanami grinned and giggled. "Thanks Morgana." She said being bumped into by a really odd looking moonlit, "Hey!" She fell to the ground and was about to get up when the glass objects hit the ground. The sound caused her to wince. She watched as one rolled near her. She put a paw out to stop it and draw it near. "What's this?" She asked Morgana.
Kurogane heard the humans making their way over to him and the cat's discovery. He looked down at the pup near him before looking back at the floor.
