I like how you can sign into it when you wanna talk to a friend and you don't have to open up another program I think it's a good Idea but they'll have to work on it if they wanna get all 100k people on it at once,

Ugh, is it really necessary to compare ALL of Gaia's features to another site? confused
I dig the idea. I never was accustomed to PMs so this is a cool feature to implement. I'm all for it.

I got it to work. But chances of any of my friends signing on are below 0%.

I'm able to connect perfectly. It's a matter of trial and error, and yes you do gain gold for the feature. I believe it's awarded upon how long you're in an active conversation, because I just got 41 gold for conversing for 3 minutes.
