.:. I'm one of the fast ones in my group ;D but I like to stick with my friends when I run the mile >w> and urge them to run I run until It srarts hurting in my side and wheezing :0 .:.

wow... sorry to burst your bubble... but most people in Canada can do stuff like that without even thinking.
Honestly we put more manliness store in doing great things. Like walking 4 Kms through feild wood and swamp bare-footed. Or punching 2x4s in half with a bare fist.
5 miles is good enough to get you fit, it just wont make you legendary.
