Well I was the Only French Horn at my school for a while too, one good tip i have is, listen for any other instruments that have the same part since you don't have any other horns to check with, and in complicated parts in the music just make sure you get the rhythm and fingerings down pat and play it in class and see where it fits and just play your music whether you think you have the same part as someone or not(ask your director to make sure who else has your part too) just play what it says on the sheet music, I had the melody in a song when it was only me and no one else had the part(of course) i kept wanting to just match what some other section was playing( im more of a 'blend in uniquely' kinda person lol) but I just had to play what it said, same year we had songs where either only brass or only woodwinds play and of course I sat in the middle of the woodwinds and had major parts in the brass song too.... but a lot of people knew i was the only horn and felt bad for me after a while so they switched to horn, wouldn't be surprised if that happens with you too, or maybe I'm just pathetic, either way hope it helped!

I would suggest listening to the trumpets and trombones, with no altos or tenors; these will most likely be your best bet on hearing your part in some areas. Not that you would need it anyways....CUZ HORN PLAYERS RUULE!!! lol mrgreen whee

I know it sucks being the only horn, but once you get your part down, and learn what to listen to, it'll get easier. Take this as an opportunity. Get as good as you can, learn all your parts, and make it so you sound amazing 24/7. then if your schedule changes back to normal and your in a band with more than one horn, your director will realize how good you are and seat you first!
