Okay,
Everybody knows I play Trombone and Flute... Here's my one problem... I try out a Tuba. I emailed my Band director about this... I play Flute for Jazz and Trombone for 7th grade Symphonic Band. I can't play Tuba in Jazz(Tuba isn't for Jazz, more for classical..). D:
[I know how to read Bass clef, sometimes I use Treble for Trombone music]

Discuss:
Choices? Decisions?
Opinions on the Tuba.
Can Trombone Players play Tuba?
Should I learn Tuba on my own if so?
Can Short people play Tuba?(I'm 4'11. D^: )

Thanks,
Harsh

EDIT: I talked to my band director... Emailed actually. Anyways, here's what he said "You can certainly try tuba sometime -- maybe baritone would be more
worthwhile, though. Tuba is rather large!"

He still wants me to play trombone.. I just love ALL of these instruments! =O

It would be nice if some Tuba or Baritone players can help. :]

Pick Baritone I think it sounds the best out of all those. I would really recommend trumpet but you don't have it there so my second choice would be baritone.

Thanks! My band director said I could try both, Tuba and Baritone(I just don't know when... .___. )

Maybe I could learn it on my own, because I can't play in the 8th grade esemble(I haven't played in band for 2 years...And I never played Tuba, and I asked if I could play Baritone but theres a Baritone player already. D: )...

Maybe for Marching I could play Trombone. Now that would be nice. :3 Eh, but that isn't til highschool.

Actually if there's already a Beritone player that's actually a good thing..because you can tune better biggrin ..

p.s. Today at band my band director asked a kid if he wanted to switch to tuba because he is having trouble w/ high notes on trombone..

I'm not in 8th grade. I can't do 8th grade as a 7th grader because I haven't been in band for 2 years. D: And I still need to learn some notes on Trombone(Like high G?). This is how a 7th grader can play for 8th grade wind ensemble: 1)You are good at your instrument, you can player harder music or scales than others. 2)You've done band for 2 years. I asked if I could play Flute for that and Ms.Tengood(8th grade director) said there were too many flutes.. .__.

If I play high notes, its kind of hard, it sounds like a cat being shaved. neutral
[Trombone]

I just don't know when I can try out a Tuba or Baritone. My BD said I could try both, As I explained.

I recommend Baritone, I agree with the trumpet player. I am senior at high school right now and during my sophomore year I switched to Baritone in order to get into symphonic band (I still miss my trumpet though crying something is wrong with the third valve) I actually play treble clef, because I have not made the transition to bass (I would get confused)

I usually play the trombone, and I signed up for it at my new school. But the director asked me to switch to tuba instead. I really like it, but it was hard to learn the music because trombones play the higher bass notes. Learning the scales helped me and now I love to play. smile

I personally play Bb clarinet in concert band, trombone in pep band, and Bass Clarinet in marching band.

My suggestion? Sousaphone in marching band. My god, never in the universe was there a better instrument for marching band...

=D

You can hear our low brass section even if you're by the flute/woodwinds~!

Sousa is nice/cool...Its just that I'm short, and I really don't know what height I'll be in High school. 8D And plus, I already have bad shoulders from the trombone(Case and instrument)

Well clearly flute takes a lot of air, and I know tuba takes a lot of air. But me being a loud trombone player, and knowing baritone/tuba fingerings, I like baritone better because it allows playing louder easier, you just have to move your fingers and you don't strain your shoulders. And I think on baritone the valves are smaller and slightly closer together, which means you dont have to strain to play stuff with 3rd valve (like C (1 and 3)or F#(2 and 3)). But I do like baritone better than tuba for playing ability but I like tuba better because of sound, because I love playing low.
