"Isn't it peaceful here?"

With fireflies wafting in and out, Fumei enjoyed her donated property. The lake was where he and she pledged so many things, at so many times... it was her place of memory.

It made her miss her family.

It was here that made her wish she were all grown up, married and settled with children, surrounded by love and family.

But alone she wasn't at all, with a yet a new bundle of life in her small, skinny arms.

The egg covered in swaddling cloth seem to give off a quiet hum, its purple-black clouds swirling about.

"Yes, I agree... I could talk about it for hours... don't you think it strange if people find me talking to an egg?"

“Damn it!” Toulouse swore, slicing through the underbrush with stolen fey steel. “Lord and Lady take me!” He tussled through the thick green foliage of the woods, trying to find that hateful, stupid, little imp. Toulouse cursed himself blue as he scanned the darkness for any sign of movement, anything that might give away the imp’s whereabouts.

The delicate sword he held in his hand was waved about through the canopy of leaves above him and the mossy ferns below. Toulouse just had to find that imp and kill him. He just had to! The pathetic creature had known him where no one else had. No doubt the creature was scurry straight to the Seelie Queen herself with news of what he had found.

Toulouse gave a cry of despair at the thought of Belle knowing that he was once again alive and well. He shuddered to think who or what she would send to kill him in the night. His face fell in on itself, threatening to disappear into a frowning snarl. He had to find that imp! With a growl, Toulouse quickened his pace through the forest, steadying his sword, as he used all his senses to find his ugly friend. The imp couldn’t have gotten too far.

Shaking his mighty golden head, Toulouse bounded over fallen trees and trickling brooks in the dark of the night. The trees pressed in on him like ghostly figures, watching and waiting for him to fail. The forest always watched things that it shouldn’t. He let his mouth twist in a wry smile as he trampled out into an open place surrounded by water. A lake. He didn't notice the little girl who sat on its shore as he looked wildly around for his betrayer.

With a flip of her brown hair, (not being an easy task, her hair as long as half her height) Fumei's eyes narrowed and scanned the area. What was going on? She had come to the now public lake to enjoy her evening. Boo on those who would disturb her peace and quiet! She knew she shouldn't have given away some property, even with her parents' permission! She should have enjoyed being holed away.

However, she knew that sound of metal cutting air, felt the unnatural wind on her face before her eyes fell upon the golden youth in sight.

The youth seemed wild and uncontrolled, paranoia clutching its senses. It... the youth... seemed posessed, perhaps obsessed with chasing a thief, a... an evil wrongdoer? And what was that sword doing in his hand?

Instinctively, she relaxed her grip on B'Elanna, her new egg.

The egg seem to pulsate in surprise, the clouds puffing in such a way that it seemed to be steaming. It's devil wings seemed to flap in hot excitement.

With moonlight, fireflies and even 'tree-lanterns' (as Fumei liked to call them), the 5'2" teenaged girl stared in wonder at the strange boy. He didn't seem much older or younger than her, but he seemed distressed. With green eyes sparkling, she licked her dry lips and stood up with her egg, trying to staunch her surprise.

The boy didn't seem to notice her. Was he after her? Or her egg? Impossible. She didn't try to stick out here. Was he after the egg? No, the egg seemed to gravitate towards this boy. Fear gripped her heart, before she began to breathe and summon up her courage.

In a quiet sounding voice, she tentatively waved, ignoring self-preservation and called out.

"Hey! Are you alright?"

Huffing with determination and anger, it took a moment for Toulouse to feel the cool lake air on his face and to hear the voice below him. He ignored both irately, scanning the trees. Nothing. He nearly screamed his rage to the sky. He should have known better. Oh, how he should have known! That little devil was a thing of darkness and shadow. Even though he was a part of the shinning throng, Rukh was still a thing of night. There was no way Toulouse was ever going to find the imp. At least this night.

Disgusted, he threw his sword to the ground unceremoniously. He’d pick it up later, but not right now. Finally, after a good long seething sigh, Toulouse looked at the little girl.

Toulouse towered over her, all anger and shadowy golden light. She was a tiny thing and seemed to be very young. He was uninterested in her on sight and would have overlooked her completely had it not been for the buzzing, winged egg in her arms.

What!” He cried nearly jumping back from the Unseelie aura of the egg. It pulsed around in like an unfamiliar wind. He had not known as Unseelie for a long time. “Where did you find that egg little girl?” He asked suddenly, ignoring her question. How many eggs were there now? First Piero, and now this little chit of a thing, had one. Where were they all coming from and why were they not with the Fae?

With a rush of annoyance, Fumei scowled when he rudely ignored her. Her rational side told her he was doing something important, like trying to vanquish evil doers or chasing some pickpocket. Her irrational side spurred her on to continue on her line of thinking: He was crazy.

With this, she merely stood with her arms around the still seemingly excited egg, frowning and scowling all the while. What the hell was his problem?

Finally, after a mental battle, the boy seemed too frustrated with his task, the sword being thrown to the ground in boiling anger.

With a roll of her eyes, Fumei felt like returning to her peaceful repreieve, ready to ignore the boy and return to caring her new charge. Oh well. It was a minor distraction. The boy was probably some other stupid Gaian who had asked her for donations, DABIL tAIl, or gOLDz. Probably some idiot who had something stolen from him underneath his nose.

She was more than happy to watch him leave before it seemed like he phased in front of her, gasping at the speed that his shadow had covered her. Afraid, feeling her heart had caught in her throat, she unconciously whimpered, unable to form words.

But B'Elanna seemed to have other plans, the egg fluttering in the breeze, out of Fumei's arms and around Toulouse, seemingly happy in a familiar sort of aura around him. The egg vibrated happily, up and down, left and right, around and about him.

Bzz buzz...

The Unseelie egg had the nerve to start attacking him! Toulouse wanted to bat at it like he would a fly, but he new just how fragile such things were. Unseelie or no, he certainly wasn’t going to swat at an innocent egg.

He tried dodging the whirling thing, but it fluttered about his head this way and that. Toulouse ducked and spun, trying to get away from the egg. He didn’t want to touch it. It’s dark aura clashed against his own. Not in a bad way…but it was uncomfortable.

Toulouse stumbled, trying to sidestep the crazy egg. He misjudged the wetness of the ground though and his back foot slipped out from under him. He cried out, falling backwards. He tried to catch himself with his arm but it too, slipped out from beneath him like a worm. Toulouse hit the water shallow water of the lake line with a splash.

Damnation!” He shouted, still trying to fend of the egg without hurting it. “Call it off will you!” Toulouse felt the lake water soaking into his white shirt and jeans. The droplets clung to his golden hair, making it hang in dank strips which he brushed from his eyes. “Please?” He added as an afterthought of courtesy, still sopping wet.

B'Elanna buzzed and pulsated, the hyper egg nearly ecstatic for its own. Any aura similar to hers was duly welcome, and B'Elanna could only flit around to expel her new found energy.

Fumei squeaked before Toulouse once more, before B'Elanna's hyperactive mode took over. Suddenly, the boy was a mess, trying to dodge an egg. What kind of person dodged something without swatting? Without his hostile attention focused on her, Fumei knit her eyebrows in confusion. No longer was she bound by fear, but now silent by utter bewilderment as she watched Toulouse's somewhat clumsy efforts at dodging B'Elanna before ending up in the lake.

He took care of her.

While Fumei stared at the golden haired teenager, she burst into laughter when she noticed his sopping hair, drenched clothes and angry manner directed at B'Elanna and the water.

It was the 'please' that finally moved her from her seemingly neverending giggles, taking the swaddling cloth that had fallen off B'Elanna when the egg flew off to its new peer. This was what she was afraid of?

Speaking of B'Elanna, the egg now floated upright, cruising around the poor boy in the water. The egg tried pushing Toulouse out of the water, seemingly giggling as well.

Imbetween giggles, Fumei immediately held out her hands toward Toulouse, swaddling cloth in one hand. "*giggle* I-I'm so.... *laugh* sorry~! B'Elanna! Stop that, you're making him feel uncomfortable. Come now, let me help you..." She said, smiling, feeling a new impression of him. "Are you alright?"

B'Elanna's cloud's puffed up once more, before trying to push Toulouse out of the water once more in more than a stubborn manner. It seemed the egg would not be told what to do.

This is not funny.” Toulouse remarked in a grumble as he shook water droplets from his hair and face like a dog. The egg still was floating about his head, looking for all the world like a silly little satellite. He felt it nudging his shoulder as if trying to help him up like its master. With a huff he reached out and took the little girl’s outstretched hand.

He heaved up to a standing position by himself, afraid that he would pull the girl off balance with his weight. With a frown still on his face, Toulouse began to wring out the hem of his shirt and shake off the access water from the bottom of his jeans. His boots squished beneath him and he promptly took each on off in turn, dumping the water out.

Toulouse turned to the girl, standing bare footed and soaking wet before her and her crazy, flying egg. “Thanks.” Was all he said as he crossed and then uncrossed his arms in a fidgety manner. He then began to idly squeeze out the heavy wetness in his hair. He hated when his hair got all wet like that. It always felt like it weighed a ton.

With a sudden sigh and a slow blink, Toulouse looked fully at the girl and felt a little ashamed of himself. No doubt he had probably startled her after having burst from the trees like a madman as he waved his sword. “Erm…I’m sorry if I startled you. Uh, did you by chance see a little fellow about ye high,” Toulouse held his hand about knee length, “pass through here?” Maybe he’d get lucky and the girl would have see Rukh.

Fumei tried to control her giggles, but the effort failed miserably. "It *giggle* is! You're so... *laugh* wet!" When her laughter subsided, she offered him the swaddling cloth that had wrapped B'Elanna nice and warm. "Why don't you go change behind a tree or something, and wrap yourself with this? It's a bit long, but I think for the better. B'Elanna doesn't seem to want it." She said, indicating the now spinning egg.

The girl smiled as she pulled Toulouse, planting her feet and using her hips to pull the boy up as far as she could. She could only hope she didn't grip his hand too hard. Still, he seemed cold after he let go. The poor boy would have to take off his clothes dry them lest he catch a cold. "Wow, you can say thank you. Haha, you're very much welcome. Here, catch." With that, the girl threw the long swaddling cloth at him.

"Let's start a fire, shall we?" Fumei happily announced, gathering a few dry grasses and timber. For now, the boy seemed calm and normal. He seemed like a nice, normal boy, so what could have been chasing? As she gathered her items in the desired location, she gave his question some thought.

The red egg descended to the ground, seemingly dizzy with her hyperactive antics. Still, it rolled on the lush grass toward Toulouse; still trying to get near him.

Fumei smiled once more, green eyes glittering with mischief as she spread some of the lantern-light's fire onto the ground. "Oh, a sort of imp thing?"

Toulouse caught the cloth that was thrown at him out of reflex. It was a kind gesture, but there was no way he was taking off all of his clothes. He would rather be wet then be nude in front of another person, especially a girl, no matter how young.

However, Toulouse did take of his shirt. He unbuttoned his top, getting stuck only on the last shiny button as it clung to the wet fabric. The shirt was dropped to the ground, followed by Toulouse who sat next to it, patting his sun kissed skin dry with the make shift towel as the egg whirled about him.

Toulouse wholeheartedly ignored the hyperactive egg rolling about on the ground. It seemed to have the same personality as it’s mistress who was currently puttering about, chattering about a fire or something. His face was suddenly startled into a suspicious expression as the girl said ‘imp.’

What makes you say that? How do you know I’m not just looking for my kid brother?” Why would a human say such a thing? It’s not like they ever saw anything magical or special. The entire human population was too blinded by its own mediocrity to recognize such things. This girl was weird, not to mention that she was way to hyper for his shot nerves to handle. Toulouse rubbed his temples mercilessly, frowning again as he felt a headache begin to take.

Fumei smiled at him sweetly. "Look, are you sure you want to keep talking while you're soaking wet? Well, you're lucky I've already started a fire.... well I will soon, so... yeah..." The girl never seemed to care what predicament she was in at the moment, so she decided to make the best of all of it. Whilst spreading the lantern-light, she made sure to control the fire using wet stones and other energies about. With her work done, she continued to sit by the fire, just watching it burn, making sure not to look at Toulouse.

After all, he didn't seem like he was fond of undressing in front of anybody, as anyone would. Still, it didn't seem like a big deal and still...

She should stop using 'still.'

B'Elanna on the other hand, continued to follow Toulouse with a now sort of content happiness to be near him, somehow rolling her way toward the fire as well. The egg seemed never unhappy around him, and for that, Fumei was glad.

Hopefully this would be something good.

"Oh hey, do you need medicine?" In an instant, the teenaged girl stood up, looking for something. "Maybe I can look for herbs or something, along with that little imp of yours." On Fumei continued her search, before picking up a conveniently placed bag. "If you need some food or water, I have that too." As it so happened, Fumei looked at the sword now right by her feet. "Hm, I don't know about you, but I don't go looking for my kid brother with a sword in hand, then talking to a girl looking for something like that. Now is this a magic sword that will pierce my heart once I touch it, or shall I bring it to you?"

B'Elanna buzzed up and down impatiently.

"But I can say what I want, B'Elanna! Geez."

Toulouse blinked in a slow unhappy motion. This girl was confusing him and making his head hurt. She talked way to much and seemed too pleased about finding a crazy man who had half drowned himself because of a little flying egg. She’d probably kill him with her plant remedies and spear him with his own sword through her own happy accident.

No.” Toulouse replied slowly. It was a ‘no’ that encompassed all her silly questions. “Don’t trouble yourself on my account and don’t touch that sword. It’ll probably burn the skin right off your bones. See?” Toulouse held out his right hand for the girl to see. The palm was crisscrossed with deep red welts that were working themselves into fine puss filled blisters. He hardly had any feeling in that hand and that was probably why he hadn‘t notice the injury sooner. A needled had pierced the center of his palm before and he had felt nothing.

Come to think of it,” He stood with a toss of his golden head. “I think I shall get ride of the retched thing. It will help me no more this night as you have obviously not seen anything out of the ordinary…well, at least for you.” Toulouse stooped to pick up the cursed sword with his right hand. No use injuring the left. With a burst of strength, Toulouse flung the sword into the lake.

The steel glittered and flashed in the moonlight like some precious thing as it whistled through the night. The sword spun out towards the middle of the lake and hit the water barely making a splash and hardly any ripples. There. Toulouse sat back down satisfied.

What is you name?” He peered expectantly at the girl, for the moment leaving Rukh to his own evil devices. Toulouse would find a way to pay him back…eventually. He had all eternity after all.

Fumei twirled about the sword, looking more child-like than ever as she tiptoed and piroetted about it like a professional ballerina. What was with this boy? He seemed so strange, coming in like a madman, splashing and transforming into a normal boy, before changing back to an untrustful teenager. Ah, such was the way of life. "Ooooh..." Fumei took a good look at his hands, before putting her hands behind her back. "Well, I do have painkiller pills and Pyenol if you need it."

Still, what kind of a boy got a sword like that?

"Hmm, I think you and I are more than just normal. Is there anything else I can do for you or your hand?"

B'Elanna immediately came to Toulouse's hand, as if to examine the welt. It could not be that she could see, yet she came to rest in Fumei's arms as if to tell her something.

"Ah, my egg is concerned. For that, I'll tell you that I did not see an imp though if you do so wish, I can help you look when you feel like it. It's my-- well, used to be-- my property." With this, the girl watched as the sword sank into the lake.

The lake did not bubble, glow, sizzle or explode. The lake simply swallowed the sword with a gulp, and Fumei's smile went with it.

With that, Fumei gave a daring smirk. "My name is Shin, Fumei. You've already met B'Elanna." With that, she proudly pet her egg, not at all disturbed with the red ash coming onto her fingers. "...So are you one of these ashy eggs, as well?" She gave him a look.

“Those won’t work at all. I have barely any feeling left in this hand.” Toulouse flexed his right hand in the open air. “What little pain I do feel is a blessing.” The girl grew ever stranger to him and he wasn’t sure what he thought of her. She was young yet old at the same time…well old by human terms.

Toulouse pressed his hair back behind his ears trying vainly to assess this mysterious girl and her egg. When her heard her say that she had not seen Rukh, Toulouse collapsed backwards to the ground to lay on his back. He stared at the open sky above him framed by a canopy of trees. The damp blanket sat wadded up on his bare stomach.

How can you say that your are more than normal when you look and smell like a human? What more is there?” Toulouse closed his eyes, bringing his arms behind his head as a pillow. “And why now…would you say such a thing about me?” The girl, Fumei, was just too curious. Why in the world would she ask a question like that? Why?

"Oh I see." Well, she could try to fix it, but that would be beyond the right of her permission anyhow. The girl could only think about the poor boy's welts and what she could do with them.

The egg had other thoughts, but seemed to be out of humming power and simply swirled its clouds about. More than ever, B'Elanna was quiet, finally seemingly content to just listen and flow with the wind.

"Well... there's lots more to being human than just smelling and looking like one, sir." She said, sitting on her haunches as she looked at Toulouse. People tended to wear their emotions on their sleeves after showing such emotion as this boy did. "Besides, I'll be nice to you and say that I like finding out what people really react to. So I just wanted to see. Right, B'Elanna?"

The egg merely kept silent. Like it always did.

"Are you sure you're okay? I mean, guys don't go hitting on girls with those sorts of lines."
