Well, the "cheapest" is probably rescuing an older glider, but remember that there is NO SUCH THING AS A FREE PET! The glider may need medical care, and the cage, food, etc. can be VERY expensive. I would highly recommend against getting a glider when money is tight. sad

Yea definitely... I have enough money but still its somewhat hard to keep up with everything but I do it, and I don't skimp on anything when it comes to my suggies either. I even have a saving set up just in case I need to take one of them to the vet, and a vet that handles suggies close-by. And saving for a biig cage since my momma multiplied hehe ^-^

I got my suggie for 150$ from a close friend who breeds them. That is probably as cheap as you will see. I have seen them up to 400$ around here.

Yeah, $150 for Classic Grays is pretty much the cheapest you will find. Lilo and Epiphany were both $200 each, and 50 of that I had to pay as a "down payment" to hold them for me while they were being weaned from their moms. And that is pretty typical of many reputable breeders. Some will Go down to 150 each if you are getting 2 siblings together so they KNOW they will have a cage buddy (gliders should NOT be alone) but that is about it. Lower than that, something is a bit shady.

NOW, that being said, ********* was $20. But he was a rescue and is a perfect example of the saying well-known among animal rehabbers "There's No Such Thing as a Free Pet."

*********, my "almost free" glider has cost me at least $475 in medication and surgeries to get him healthy. He is worth it and I do not regret it. But just know that "free" gliders are usually much more expensive than healthy "expensive" ones. Rescuing is NOT something you do to make money, that's for sure! (My roomie and I are "hobby" wildlife and domestic rehabilitators and rehomers)

The only place you can find them are from local breeders? Not maybe an animal shelter or the pet store? D:

It's not that there isn't any at some pet stores because there are. A pet store down here in Plano sells them, among many other exotics.

But not all gliders or any animals at pet stores are healthy or well bred.

If you want a healthy pet, your best bet is to find a local breeder or check some shelters (try petfinder.com).

It's been said that the most expensive price you will ever pay is "free". This is especially true of "cheap" animals.

What it comes down to is this; if you cannot afford food and health care (adequate and emergency care!!!) then do not buy a pet.

You're right about the pet store thing. They were selling sugar gliders in Albany NY for about 180$ I searched, and I found. I am pretty sure they are well taken care of.

Oh yeah, there are tons of pet stores that have them. But you gotta know what you're looking for as far as health goes. Talk to an exotic pet vet and ask them what you should be looking for in a very healthy glider before you buy it and become attached. Best if you can get a vet to either check it before you buy it or if the pet store offers some sort of "return policy" (sounds bad but if it gets sick and dies in a week... then what?) so you can get it checked out.
