my sister tried this but didn't work so lets try again
well heres what i know with some stuff i just found out
Metal is a powerful and dark music that has many sub genres even though many of the sub genres are no longer considerd to be me metal the main genres are as followed Heavy,Doom, black, progressive, folk, viking, stoner, sludge, death, neo classical, and power and here are the ones no longer considerd to be metal 80's glam/hair, nu-metal/NWOAHM ( New Wave of American Heavy Metal)

The main genres are: Doom, Heavy, Speed, Thrash, Black, Death, Power, Progressive, Folk, Sludge, Stoner, Gothic, Funeral, Drone
Minor/mislabelled genres: Metalcore (certain bands only), Goregrind (certain bands only), Industrial (most bands that are considered to be this are actually just an existing genre with Industrial elements added in) Symphonic (see industrial) Neo-classical (see industrial) Avant-Garde (I'm not 100% sure on this, but my understanding is that it's not completely correct usage, but it's a term for bands that mix so many different styles that it can't really be placed in a single genre.) Epic (This is an element added to the music, most things considered to be just plain "epic metal" are usually epic heavy, it can be used in most/every genre though) Post-Metal (Not an actual genre, just a term used for bands that incorporate Post-Rock influences)
As for stuff like Glam/Hair bands, this is not actually even a genre, it's just a name for the bands that were a part of the scene, some are Hard Rock, others are Heavy Metal. For Nu-Metal/NWOAHM, these bands were never actually considered metal (or at least not by anyone in the actual metal scene, just by Mtv and the like).

Uh. Could you really pinpoint a "founding father" for a certain lyrical theme? Seems kinda absurd to me.

The War Starter Uh. Could you really pinpoint a "founding father" for a certain lyrical theme? Seems kinda absurd to me. It is, since lyrics don't define a genre. Vocals might affect, but c'mon, lyrics?

I am curious is there a good resource to read on the history of Heavy Metal. I did see one book but it was kinda inaccurate for the latter years...talking about Nirvana and Red Hot Chili Peppers.... confused
