The Children of the KoRn Guild Guidelines
arranged by ZeeCrazayHobo, proofed by +[Unholy Rage]+

Hello, and welcome to the #1 KoRn Guild on Gaia Online!

User Image

It is a pleasure to have you here. Before you start posting we have a few guidelines that you must read and follow.

Table of Contents:

1 (I). Opinions & Topics
2 (II). Facts & Information
3 (III). Literacy & Language
4 (IV). Posting/Replying & Activity
5 (V). Contests & Advertising
6 (VI). Subforums
7 (VII). Failure To Follow The Leaders

I. Opinions & Topics

Every member of the guild, as a human being, is entitled to his or her own opinion.

For the purpose of discussion, debate, and seeing the matter on the other side--in a new perspective, said opinions can and are also encouraged to be questioned by other members of the guild. However, in offering in-depth debates, we must point out that this does not include, and is not limited to the following:

- verbally abusing someone for their beliefs
- continuously causing ignorant arguments
- racism and bigotry
- sexist remarks
- ad hominems (directly personal attacks)

Awful, ignorant subjects such as "new korn sux"/"i dont like them no more" are not allowed here unless you are able to elaborate intelligently on your opinion, ex: "Why I don't like the new KoRn". Please give us all the explanations you can for an opinion that you feel may offend someone, because we are home to many passionate KoRn fans and offending topics can easily strike a nerve in all of us.

II. Facts & Information

As with any band, members of this guild will range from the experienced to the less experienced, the older fans and the newer ones. Errors among the less experienced are common and we encourage the experienced members to simply and kindly correct any errors made. However, we will not allow any member to attack a newer fan in a know-it-all fashion; we are all equal KoRn fans, and this is based on our feelings towards the band and not the facts we know. This guideline is also in effect for new users, who should accept any assistance given to them.

III. Literacy & Language

We are an intelligent guild that is strong about the concept of literacy. To put it bluntly: absolutely no "txt tlk", internet abbreviations, or a misuse of literacy under any circumstances! We want to know exactly what you are saying to avoid confusion, misunderstandings and headaches among the majority of our mature members.

-Spelling errors are common and forgivable, and a quick edit to your post can make all the difference. (We highly recommend the internet browser Firefox, which has a spell check when writing in internet forms.)

-We often have a lot of humor in the guild, and widely-known internet abbreviations such as "lol" are acceptable as well as our purpose misspellings of things like "moar". Often times we'll use strange terms to describe things we like, but anything like "ily all", "i liek it 2", "c** on dis song iz gr8" is frowned upon.

-Also, unique only to KoRn, replacing "c"s with "k"s and capitalizing "r"s is a language we can usually all interpret pretty well and is praised upon, but don't overdo it. Usually we use it for shorter, more simple replies but write normally in more lengthy ones.

-Misuse of literacy is an event that occurs when someone uses a "tone" in their writing that can be easily taken the wrong way by many members, mainly sarcasm. This is the internet, and you are in an internet forum. Do not type as you would talk in real life; we can't hear your voice, we can only read it.

-Language, as in cursing and cussing, is something every KoRn fan is familiar with and we have no problem at all with R-rated language. But we do insist that you avoid continual and persistent use of foul language in a single post or topic. You can always get the point across without cursing and it should be used more for things that you really feel strongly about.

IV. Posting/Replying & Activity

Now that you have literacy down, we'll go to the actual replying process. Most people are aware of how everything works as this is a forum site, but there are certain issues that have come to our attention that we feel we need to address.

When posting, please be sure to review other topics so we can avoid double-topics, which is when two different members post the same topic. This is usually happens when big KoRn news comes around. Usually a moderator will be the quickest to cover any and all news concerning KoRn, but if news remains untouched please feel free to make a subject about. Afterall, we're the most up-to-date KoRn Guild here on Gaia Online, and any help to keep it that way is greatly appreciated.

We are not the Chatterbox; do not post here just to get gold. We expect every member accepted here to be as fully active as possible and this includes making detailed replies to topics that can be easily quoted and elaborated on by every member. This will give threads a chance to live in activity for a while and decrease the amount of dead threads.

As activity is what keeps the guild itself thriving, we strongly enforce it. From now on, if any accepted member of the guild remains inactive for longer than several months without a valid reason for absence, they will be banned from the guild.

V. Contests & Advertising

Every now and then, we will hold contests that usually involves activity. Gold, Monthly Collectibles, a spot on the home page and possibly Avatar Art will usually be rewarded as prizes.

Some of our contests include:

Member of the Month: 1k-5k in gold, (maybe monthly collectible) avi art & a month-long spot on the main page rewarded to the most active & productive member of the guild each month.
Recruitment Awards: the most recent monthly collectible rewarded to members, crew or captains who recruit the most members into the guild through any given time period when the contest is held. (currently defunct)

(We are still working on new ideas... we'll probably have much more in the offpeak seasons when everyone isn't busy with school.)

As a growing guild, we strive to gain more and more active KoRn fans in our Kommunity and to do this we need to advertise like hell. Though it is not a requirement, we strongly encourage all of our members to place our guild banners in their profiles and signatures. We offer a wide variety of banners in the Art Subforum, so check it out.

VI. Subforums

Each subform will contain a sticky in regards to what to post and how to post it. Treat the subforums just as you would with the main guild and follow the same guidelines.

VII. Failure To Follow Your Leaders/Moderator Applications

The most important guideline is this: OBEY YOUR MODS!!!

And follow the standards of the Gaia Online Terms of Service.

Here is the current list of our Guild Moderators:

Captain, Next-Gen Korn Kween: ZeeCrazyHobo
Vice Captain (Co-owner), Mistress of the Unholy Flame: +[Unholy_Rage]+
Vice Captain (General Manager, Charity Officer), Duchess of Korn: XxXAuroraXxX
Crew 1 (General Mod), Master of Metal and Sheep: Jakal Gore
Crew 2, (General Mod) Master Deviant: S0ZI
Crew (retainer): Jin

Important Things You Need To Know:

-Whatever we say goes.
-We will never ignore or discriminate against any member.
-We are here to help and assist you, never feel intimidated to ask us anything.
-We are all humans and we are all equal. We do not expect any special treatment.
-We always do things with what is best for the guild in mind.

As for problems that arise in the guild, we will always take time to carefully look at them and decide how to handle it. If a really serious conflict arises in the guild that you feel goes unnoticed, please report it to the Captains immediately. We want our Kommunity to be a safe, fun and peaceful one and will take serious action to help it remain that way.

Any member failing to comply with these guidelines to the best of their ability will be warned. If unacceptable behavior continues after being warned, the user will be banned from this guild.

If any member is interested in becoming a part of the crew, you must first show a long streak of activity and involvement with us. Present us with fresh ideas and do so in a confident manner. If you do well enough, we may consider you without you even asking. However, if you feel you have shown your worth to us, send a PM to any Captain or Crew member asking for a promotion when we announce we are looking for new crew members.

Thank you for reading. In following these simple guidelines we hope to promote an active, literate, and enjoyable KoRn Kommunity for every KoRn fan here on Gaia.

Your Captains,

ZeeCrazayHobo
& +[Unholy Rage]+

Be sure to go to the Member Introduction Thread now to receive a warm welcome from us! (And if you were asked to become a member here, please include in your introduction the member who invited you!)

just thought id say that the welcoming note is um, LONG. welcoming ESSAY might be a better description. perhaps it should be shortened then elaborated on in a guild rules post? just an idea

I had almost forgotten about this! Nice to see it up! biggrin

As for the idea to shorten the Guidelines, it's all there for a reason. I really tried not to make it so long, but I wrote this based on my observations of the guild activity, and I guess I had a lot to say. xD

If any member is really serious about being in our guild, I'm sure they'll take a few minutes to skim through it. smile

I agree with these things but it seems like im at school again constant rules getting thrown at us. i thought guilds are suppose to be fun.

i truly do understand all these guide lines but i do think they should be toned down a bit. It seems like if you don't follow these your not allowed to be in this guild. Just tone it down a bit it would be kinda hard to follow this cause we all know people do get crazy. mrgreen

I really am not starting to feel comfortable in this guild because of that one thing thats mentioned. "Whatever we say goes." I'm sorry im anarchist and i really don't like to be dictated like that. I get enough of it at school.
I come to this guild to talk with fellow korn members like myself about various topics that are listed.

simple list of rules like.
No racism against other people
No fighting
stuff like that, and don't use that big argument that my avi was included in because like i said my friend hacked into my account when i was on vacation and i truly apologize for his ignorant mentally.
As a request please tone it down. biggrin

Notice how they are framed as 'guidelines' and not rules, and they are as toned down as possible. To frame this as 'rules' is to imply an authoritarian order and punishment duality, these guidelines is how we as mods just want to maintain a form of order to help maintain social cohesion within this niche, not to necessarily to punish 'wrongdoers'.

I agree with you, this guild is about fun; and these guidelines are about maintaining that atmosphere as best as possible. All sites have guidelines, Gaia's TOS is actually more stringent that ours, way more stringent in fact. Also we are not Kornspace, we do not censor certain discussion topics (unless they are really abusive) and allow our members to be heard - hence why I did not lock this thread in the first place.

Actually, that 'incident' with your avi wasn't even factored in that much with the decision to put these up. It's just to establish that we are a guild (hence as sort of organisation) and this is how we see it best to maintain an atmosphere that is appealing and friendly.

Also in Dani's defence, 'whateve we say goes' means that if we tell someone to stop hurling abuse, they should stop hurling abuse; if they refuse to do so after repeated warnings then they are obviously banned. It's not like we order you guys to strip down and work in a coal mine to make us rich xD - we're pretty laissez-faire in managing this guild anyway.

PS: Also don't get me started on anarchism, it's an ideology that in my opinion is way too flawed to even be considered (I'm sure S0ZI will disagree with me though, lol). But that is not an appropriate discussion for this domain, if you're serious about countering my view... start an extended discussion in the Other Side xD.

Like i said or at least failed to be more alaberate i am not hear to start a battle common sense is common sense you made a point and i shall follow it. i reread it for a second time and fully understand. i put as a defence with incident with my avi because i felt singled out for a brief moment no grudges willl be held on my end. mrgreen its in the past thats all.

I think the list of the Guide lines makes perfect sense, especially when I've seen Rules or Guidelines posts get twice as long.
One thing to consider is that, while most Rules will state "No swearing" the Children of the KoRn's say it is okay - in moderation. That is definitely something that needs to be specified. I mean, what other guild has developed and used slang from the original spelling of the band's name where they got it from? Unusual examples of Kommunication (<-- See what I mean? mrgreen ) like that often need to be clarified, so new members don't get completely lost.
But that doesn't mean the guidelines to be poured over. Just read through it to get the major pieces down. I think its all a good idea. . . 3nodding

Wow my visits to this Guild have been so infrequent nowadays that I forgot about this xD. Thanks for your input mate smile

Its no problem. When I join a new guild, I have a tendency to explore the parts that no one else goes to anymore. ^_^ That way I can really see what its members are like. Besides, the forum title said I had to read the Guidelines. . . *laughs*
