Something I saw in a Life Issues thread. merixthexninja Ask your boyfriend if he's willing to help you support the child, and if he's ready and willing to be a father. If no to either of the two, abort. An abortion is $500, and the average cost of raising a kid in the first year alone is $10000. If your finances are stretched to the limit, get an abortion. It seems like they're underrating the cost of an abortion (although I did see that some early-term abortions through medications can cost about $500) and over-estimating the cost of a baby's first year. Seriously. Our family is low-income. There is no way in heck that our babies' first years cost us $10,000 - we wouldn't have had anywhere near that amount.

They may have been taking into account medical expenses from the pregnancy/birth. Not just the child after it's born.

I like the advice though xd "If your boyfriend won't pay up, get an abortion, because that should be the deciding factor over whether or not you give birth."
Feminists. Where are they? When finances are seen as a viable pressure to abort, why are they settling for abortion instead of fighting for a REAL choice?
Oh wait, because abortion is "good enough" and women don't deserve a real choice, right?

Yeah, choice seems to be about what choice that is "best" for you and no one else that's involved. At least their giving the man an option and say, usually they don't get that. Why not fight for free daycares for students and workers? Cheaper and better health care? Better options.

We did a study on minimum wage living in Catholic Classes to prove for economic justice and we found that the average parents WITH DAYCARE will spend nearly 5,000 altogether with the 2.5 child average in America... so it's not right AT ALL... maybe if it was talking about having 8 children and living off of one below-minimum wage income...

They just make up bullshit numbers. Or perhaps include multi-billionaire children in the average. xd

What country do these people live in, in which there's no such thing as assistance to needy children? Sudan? Antarctica? Last I checked, in the U.S., if you can't afford baby food, clothes, health care, etc., it's free. I'm fairly certain it's the same in every other developed country.

Yes there are programs that help people in need. One of my mom's friend was in a program like that for a short time. $10,000 for the first year seems like a lot. The most would be the cost of the hospital stay before and after they give birth and if they are careful they can get clothes, food, and whatever else they need at a low price. They would have to spend about at least $800-900 (maybe a little less if you minus the hospital cost) or so a month just on the kid alone which would be ridiculous. What are they spending the money on?

What are they spending the money on? In NY, health insurance for children is free if you're earning less than six figures a year, and with at least one health insurance company, checkups for children are free--no copay. You can't include rent or utilities, because your baby's going to live in the same house, if not the same room, as you do, and you'd be living there and keeping the house warm, with running water, etc., anyway. They eat a lot for their size, but they don't pack away 20 oz Kobe steaks, and again, if you have a low income, formula and baby food are free. I see baby clothes and cribs at thrift stores all the time, and let's not forget those evil crisis pregnancy centers that give away baby stuff. Those horrible bastards should be lined up and shot for trying to make parenting cheap and easy. rolleyes

Wow.. That's one of the dumbest things I've heard.. And I thought abortions costed more than that..? I know babies are expensive and everything and that the cost of living is going up.. But 10,000 dollars does seem like a lot.. My mom never paid a dime in child support or even sent me anyhting on Christmas or for my birthday.. I pretty much lived off of my father's disability checks.. I came out somewhat normal.. I'm happy to be alive right now.. I hate how people pull money into these type of situations and think that if a child grows up poor there going to have a crappy life.. But you know what? I woulnd't have wanted my life to be any different than it is now.. And if I could I'd relive my life over and over again.

I'm pretty sure I'd suffer through financial stress instead of letting my wife kill our baby.... well, when I get a wife, anway. Besides, what kind of animal puts a price on an infants life? O_o.... and I'm not even particularily fond of babies.

XD Mm. It's why I wouldn't date a Pro-Choicer, I think. 3nodding Because, with a Pro-Life man dating a Pro-Choice woman at least, you don't have a choice. If you get her pregnant, and she decides she's going to have an abortion, you can't stop her.
I need to necro that thread. It's a good thread. Probably my best.

I guess being the woman, it might be easier to date a pro-choice man as either way I don't have to worry about them aborting. While you would have more to worry about if you dated a pro-choice woman If they tried to get me to abort then obvious they're not pro-choice or pro-life.
