Creation of Aezhenn Chalm

It's no good, Zen sighed as he stretched out his wings and leaped into the air, keeping a consistent balance as he flapped his wings to the rhythm of his heartbeat. It always seemed to help, especially now that he was just getting back into the habit of flying now that his wing was finally healed. If we freeze over a lake of that size, it would affect the surrounding wilderness too much and that could cau-

Alright, alright, I get it, Prince Know-it-all, Mikayl grumbled as he streaked through the forest, heading up the mountain back to Edoc'sil. Looking for a good lake to put their den in had been harder than either of the kyns had expected. So that lake was a 'no', and there're already clans using up the other lakes.

We could always ask Edoc'sil for some help, the European pointed out, folding his wings in ever-so-slightly as he started to ascend the mountain. I'm sure they would be more than happy to, and Ari's gone back to Weslock to help tend to one of the villagers, so she won't notice anything.

We don't need any help, the young Lunar insisted stubbornly, always too proud to admit help needed. Not that he would ever admit that, of course. This is our present for Ari, not theirs.

Let go of your foolish pride already, Mikayl, the elder kyn sighed, folding his wings in as he landed neatly in front of the large boulder that enclosed Edoc'sil off from the rest of the world. He only had to wait a few moments before Mikayl came bounding into sight, an irritated look in his eyes.

Zen couldn't help but wonder if he had been that rash and stubborn when he had been a fledgling. Almost as quickly as the thought had come, he shook it off. Mikayl was one of a kind with his temper.

We'll ask Edoc'sil for help, Zen decided, ignoring the Lunar's protests, as he used his Earth magic to push aside the boulder. He walked into the cave before letting Mikayl close the entrance. The blind Lunar needed some practice with his magic after all.

As always, the members of Edoc'sil were gathered up in the meeting room, the second large cave after entering the den.

Rosemary and Rowan were down one end, both with their bows out and competing against each other in their Archery skills. Zephyr lay on the cushions and was taking a nap, as Oreo gnawed on some leftover bones from their last meal. Spirit was in a far corner, a block of stone in front of her. Using her magic, she was continuously shaping the stone, so that every moment it looked more and more like the form of Edoc'sil's newest member- Ilia.

And the kyn herself, Ilythiiri, was in the middle of the room, staring hatefully at Eclipse. A globe of darkness surrounded her, shielding her eyes from the light, but that globe flickered weakly at times as she battled Eclipse in a test of magical strength.

As Mikayl and Zen entered, Ilia's darkness all but disintegrated and she roared as the light assaulted eyes that were designed more of infravision than the visible spectrum.

It took the Kyn a moment to adjust her eyes over to the spectrum of the light, and she glared at a rather smug Eclipse.

I beat you again. He stated. Ilythiiri's tail slammed down on the floor repeatedly in her ire, furious that 'a mere male' would be able to beat her so. But she couldn't escape the fact that Eclipse was just too strong in magic.

She then focused her attention on the newcomers, not bothering to show her distaste at the sight of the blind male Lunar. The race of the drow does not allow their handicapped members to live, and the drow-kyn definitely thought along the same lines.

But don't mind her, Ilia shows disdain towards everybody. She's not that friendly. Pointedly turning away, Ilia once again surrounded herself within a globe of darkness, unable to stand the stinging light any longer, and moved out of the room.

Rowan pulled her arrows out of the target and replaced them in her quiver before walking over to Zen and Mikayl. She looked back as the Globe of darkness disappeared down a corridor and she sighed. Ilia is a hard one to manage, she drives everyone crazy. Her and that superior attitude of hers, and that lack of compassion. Rowan wished that she had left the egg down in the Underdark.

"Hey Zen, hey Mikayl. I thought you two were with Ari?" But then Rowan reconsidered her words. The people of Weslock were tolerable of a Dragon Clan living nearby as their rider have lived amongst them for so long, but they made it clear that they didn't want the Kyns too near the town. It wouldn't have been any different for Ari's kyns.

Mikayl could feel the newest member of Edoc'sil's hateful gaze on him and, in response, he lifted the skin off his teeth in a snarl towards where she had left the meeting room. Just what was her problem anyways?! She was always so snarky and rude.

Mikayl and myself felt that it was time that we stopped taking advantage of your hospitality and founded a den of our own, he heard Zen explain quietly to Rowan. Letting out a soft snort, Mikayl turned back to the main subject of conversation. Good thing Ari had gone back to Weslock. She'd said it would be at least a few days before she could make it back.

We checked out a coupla lakes but somebody said that it would kill the environment or something if we froze one of them, Mikayl butted in, swishing his tail from side to side in amusement as he sank to the ground, resting his head on his paws. I don't understand his smart language but Zen thought we should ask you guys for help since we obviously can't do it on our own. Hmph.

Don't mind Mikayl, he's sore that his water magic isn't as good as he claims it is, Zen reassured Rowan, letting his displeasure seep through their bond. Mikayl snorted as he shook them off. Whatever. They already asked for Edoc'sil's help anyways so there was no point in complaining about it anymore.

Basically, we wish to freeze over a moderately sized lake before carving tunnels into it much like your cave, Zen explained. Mikayl could feel the European sitting back on his haunches. But it seems that isn't possible without disturbing the environment. I was hoping you would have some suggestions.
PostPosted: Sun Aug 03, 2008 5:44 pm

Rowan saw Mikayl's agitated response to Ilia's open hatred and she couldn't blame him. She just wished that she could go and scold Ilythiiri or something, but the Genet-kyn hardly cared for her words. While Rowan was her rider, she'll always only be a pitiful human to the European.

Rowan then turned her attention to Zen again, listening to the plan.

"Hmm...the townsfolk depend on a lot of the nearby lakes and streams for fishing and water, so we shouldn't mess with them. This sounds complicated..." Rowan turned back to her Clan, and everyone -except Ilia of course- was moving closer to hear.

Rosemary settled comfortably beside Rowan.

All of us are extremely adept at Earth magic. How about we carve out a large depression in the ground? I know a good site a few miles away from here. It's high up in the mountains so it'll stay frozen more easily, and the area's also solid rock, so we won't be destroying areas of forest and subterranean ecosystems in the process. Rosemary suggested. She had always been rather sensitive to the environment, explaining how if you disrupt one natural balance, it'll come back to bite you in the butt.

Oreo looked at Rosemary curiously for a moment.

There's a stream right next to that area. We can fill the depression with snow melt water and the stream. I can help and make it rain slightly if it's cloudy, but my storm magic is not too strong. She said haltingly, still not fully overcoming her natural shyness. She shifted from foot to foot nervously, suddenly wishing she hadn't brought the attention to herself.

Zephyr knew Oreo's discomfort and thus spoke himself, to take the attention off the nervous female.

How are you planning to keep it frozen though? The places that are below freezing year-round is too far up the mountain to find prey effectively and in enough quantities for a clan. Zephyr thought all this talk sounded weird- how long has it been that Edoc'sil spoke so formally?

Just leave that to me. I'll think of something. Eclipse piped in. Nobody doubted him- Eclipse was a magical genius, he even has some control over the elements he hasn't read a spellbook for.

Spirit tried to enter the conversation without squishing the Lunars present -the eastern was bigger than everyone here, even though she's only a few months old.

If you're making the Den solely out of ice, there's going to be some problems. We should insulate some of the rooms with a layer of stone. A bit of sand on the floors that will stay ice should help prevent too much slipping.

Rowan looked around at everyone. It sounded like a plan was forming together.

"Well, with everyone pitching in with earth magic and Kynfire, I'm sure we can manage this." She turned back to Zen and Mikayl. "What do you guys think? We're all willing to help."

Thank you all for your help, Zen dipped his head in an unmistakable bow of respect and gratitude. Mikayl and himself had spent the better part of the day contemplating on what to do and within minutes, with the help of Edoc'sil, a solid plan had been formed. At this rate, it would only be a few days before the den would be completed, especially if Eclipse was helping out. Zen wasn't at all ashamed to admit that the Lunar was easily the most talented spellcaster in the clan.

His eyes slid over to rest on Mikayl, who seemed to sense the gaze on him.

Thanks, the Lunar muttered, standing up. He still wasn't about to admit that they couldn't have done it without help. They could've figured it out themselves... eventually. So you gonna take us to this place or what?

Zephyr ran towards the grand Hollow and came back a few moments later with Rowan's cloak in his mouth. It was the middle of summer, but this job will get chilly up there, although Rowan would be the only one who would be in danger of hypothermia.

Rowan dropped her bow and Quiver in the room -with so many kyns around, anything that dared to attack them would be completely crazy. After explaining the situation to Ilia -who didn't really care that much and expressed her contentment that two males were finally moving out of her home- the group got read to go.

Since there were more Lunars than winged Kyns in the group, it would take them perhaps a full hour to get to the spot Rosemary talked about. Rowan settled herself comfortably on Rosemary's shoulder and the group of Kyns set out. Zephyr, who was the last one out, closed the entrance to Edoc'sil with a casual thought, so used to doing it by now that it was almost an unconscious action.

The site wasn't as far away as the fact the terrain was difficult. The flight would have taken fifteen minutes, tops. Spirit had mentioned carrying the Lunars over but the proud Zephyr and Eclipse would hear none of it.

Down the side of one mountain, across a valley, and up the side of the other mountain, they finally reach the large area of stone Rosemary had talked about. It was rather steep, so the Kyns got to work on it, cutting into it horizontally to provide a level surface to work with.

Realizing that she could help little with this part of the project, Rowan borrowed Rosemary's Bow and Arrow and decided to bring the hard working Kyns back a snack or two. And in two hours, the area of the mountain was leveled out, the skilled spellweavers of both dens shaping the land so that the flat area seemed more natural than magic-made. The beginning of the depression in the rock was starting to show.

Eclipse spend most of this time at the nearby stream, freezing the water and experimenting with it, apply different levels of energy to it each time, in different elements. Soon, he was able to make ice of which the melting point was nearly at water's boiling point. Deciding that's more than enough, the Lunar trotted back to where everyone else was and helped in digging out the lake.

Rowan returned with three rabbits, hardly enough to feed all of the kyns, but no one was too hungry fortunately. She studied the progress of the work.

"It looks like we can carve it out fully today. We can start filling it in tomorrow." She commented happily. She kind of wished that she could help more, but she knew her limitations without magic in such a momentous task. For a moment, she wished that she had learned magic as her little sister was starting to do, but brushed it off. She had her own talents, and it definitely was not within arcane arts.

Awesome! the Lunar yelped excitedly as he pranced around like he was on a sugar high. Zen shook his head in amusement. He'd never seen Mikayl so hyper before, and he wasn't quite sure if he ever wanted to again. It was quite... disturbing.

The European cocked his head slightly as he glanced at the flat they'd made using magic, contemplating something for a moment. It would be easier and more simple to simply make a round hole in the ground, but no doubt with Eclipse helping, it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to shape it into a rectangular shape instead. The latter would be easier to expand their den in if needed.

He voiced his thoughts to see what the others would think of it.

A rectangle? Mikayl blinked in surprise before letting out a low huff of amusement. I'd love to see how that looks after!
PostPosted: Tue Aug 05, 2008 9:15 am

Eclipse looked up to regard Zen curiously. A rectangular lake? Not impossible but the idea did surprise the Lunar.

We can manage it. Eclipse answered, and then bounded off for an area higher than the lake they were carving out. After climbing up a ridge overlooking the site they were working on, Eclipse studied the dimensions.

Zephyr stumbled as the area beneath his feet was carved away and he he quickly regained his foot, glaring at Eclipse who was grinning back at him. Zephyr looked back down to see that the blue Lunar had carved out a line about half a foot wide and deep. The line ran around in a rough rectangular shape.

Zephyr shook his head, marveling at how fast Eclipse had accomplished the feat and went back to work. He walked over the line Eclipse had drawn as a guideline and began to trace out a block of rock with his paws, a faint line following it as a scratch in the rock. Once that was done, he sent his earth magic down into that line, carving around it slowly. After that, he began to turn that area of stone into a sand mound the size of a small European.

Zephyr has always preferred to work with sand more than actual stone.

Once he has crushed the rock here into a fine powder, he ran towards the pile where all the excess rock had been dumped, a line of sand following him from his hole.

Everybody was applying different methods to do this and on the way back to the section he was working on, Zephyr watched curiously the tactics employed by his various clanmates to cut out and remove the rock.

Rosemary was cutting off chunks smaller than Zephyr by using a thin stream of water or wind, and flying them over to the rock piles with the boulder clutched between her talons. She moved faster than Zeph though, and thus dug at about the same rate as the lunar.

Tendrils of light and darkness swirled around Eclipse, who had now returned to the flat area to work. Eclipse made the tendrils collide as he inserted them into the ground, and an ensuing mini-explosion would follow, breaking the rock up. (Eclipse had tried to explain the theory behind this type of magic, called Dawn and Twilight to Zeph, but the silver Lunar could never really understand.) Eclipse would then simply use his earth magic to float the loose boulders over to the side with his earth magic.

Oreo and Spear were working the together, the two simply breaking up the rock like Zephyr had done, except into soft-ball sized rocks, not sand. Then the two worked together magicking the rock away, Spirit carrying some of the larger pieces. Rowan soon joined them, grabbing as many rocks as she could from their work and helping them ship them off to the side.

Zephyr then returned to his work, rather interested in the differences between them all. He was suddenly reminded that he wasn't related to any of his clanmates. They were all orphans in some ways, but Zephyr didn't see that as a bad thing. A bit of variance does add more colours to life.

As the last extra pieces of protruding rock was scraped away, the sun was beginning it's descent behind the distant mountains. Zephyr and Eclipse jumped from the small ledges that had been designed to let the flightless Kyns exit the lake they had created. Zephyr stopped often to help her less agile little sister Oreo.

Soon, all of the Kyns were standing at the side of the great hole. It was mostly rectangular, with the edged rounded and the wall slightly sloping inwards at a slight angle.

Oreo closed her eyes and laid down as she reached the top, thoroughly exhausted. She hasn't ever used this much magic at once before, and Spirit shared her weariness. Rosemary, Zephyr, and Eclipse however, had better magical endurance, the three of them having worked months in clearing out their own den at the beginning of their clan.

Rowan looked to her Kyns with pride. It was still hard to believe that a little over a year ago, Rowan could only dream of becoming a Kyn rider. She had gone through the years, taking care of the Kyns as they grew, saving abandoned eggs where she could, and now the results were here in front of her.

"Well, I'd say that's enough work for today. Shall we go back and rest?" Rowan asked everyone, and there wasn't a voice of dissent. Rowan once again rode on Rosemary's back, and the group headed back. Part way through, Eclipse and Zephyr left them to go hunting, knowing for sure that Ilia wouldn't have gone out in the light to bring something back for them to eat.

---

As the group finally landed on the ledge sticking out from the entrance of Edoc'sil, there was a figure sitting there against the wall. Rosemary landed and Rowan slipped off her back, looking at the stranger curiously. He seemed to be in his early twenties, with messy brown hair and an inquisitive air about him. He didn't seem the least bit alarmed by the presence of so many kyns.

"Hi there! Are you the rider of the local Kyn clan?" The boy asked Rowan, whom nodded.

"Ah, good. I'm a Kyn assistant of a Clan that lives several miles to the west, I don't believe we've seen each other before." He introduced himself as Jay, and Rowan offered her own name in response. She wasn't aware that there was another Kyn Clan so nearby.

"So, what are you here for?" Rowan asked, only then noticing a black European off to the side, blending into the dimming light.

"Well, our Clan's quite small, but our Eastern has just given birth." Jay looked down to the bundle he held in his arms gingerly. "Our numbers aren't big enough to support so many hatchlings. We've decided to allow some other clans to take a few of the eggs."

Jay held the bundle out to Rowan who just realized that it was a pearlescent Eastern egg.

"Are you able to take care of this little one?" Jay asked. Rowan nodded and accepted the egg carefully..

There's two other riders here, by the names of Ariya and Sora. I'm sure they wouldn't mind taking in a few hatchlings as well. The mother will rest easier to know her little ones are nearby and within flying distance. Rosemary told Jay. The young boy regarded Rosemary curiously for a moment.

"We didn't know there were other riders around...two of the eggs we had sent to Aedan, he'll find them good homes. The rest we are able to take care of ourselves." Jay informed Rowan, and after farewells, the boy climbed onto the back of the black European and flew off.

Rowan looked down at the Eastern egg for a moment. Since she couldn't help with the actual making of Ari's den much, she decided that she'll stay back at the den for the next few days until this egg hatched. And after everything settles down, they should go meet this neighbor they didn't know they had.

Ari let out an exhausted sigh as she collapsed into her soft chair. It seemed there was some kind of sickness going around the entire town, and it was incredibly frustrating to know that she'd done all she could for today. She felt a moment of unease as she considered that maybe this sickness wasn't treatable, but the herbalist shook the idea off as quickly as it had come.

There was no way it could be fatal. From what she'd seen, it was definitely contagious but the villagers seemed otherwise fine, if not for a few bouts of coughing every now and then. Of course, Ari knew perfectly well that coughing could easily turn into something more major at any given time.

What really, really worried her was one particular case. Marina Azura. The elder woman had always been quite frail, so Ari was a bit fearful for her health. Marina had most likely already caught the sickness since she was already exhibiting symptons. Ari had assigned a slightly stronger dose of the medicine to her, but she was seriously questioning whether the woman would pull through this.

It was that that lead the herbalist to decide to take the trek back up to Edoc'sil to warn Rowan. She couldn't reach Zen or Mikayl through their bond from all the way down in Weslock.

She'd left enough medicine for the villagers to last until she got back, at least. It would let her breath a bit easier while away. Ari would be damned if anyone died on her watch.

The brunette got up and grabbed her spear out of habit, before leaving out the door. She often left her door unlocked, in case anyone needed some medicine.

Ari started her hike up the mountain. Fall was rapidly approaching and she cursed herself for not bringing a cloak of some sort.

After at least an hour of climbing, Ari looked around her surroundings with confusion. This place seemed vaguely familiar, though it definitely wasn't the path to Edoc'sil... Then her eyes widened as memory finally re-emerged. This was where she had found Rosemary's Heart Amulet! She was about to turn back when she noticed a dark splotch against the orange and red leaves on the ground.

"No way," Ari muttered, crunching through some leaves in her hurry to reach the splotch. As she suspected, it was a Kyn egg. Her fingers traced over the peculiar shape of the egg. A crescent. That meant a Lunar. Treating it delicately, Ari picked it up gently and cradled it to her chest with one arm as the other picked up her spear.

There was no time to waste. She had to go tell Rowan about her mother, and get this Lunar egg to the nursery.

---

The den is coming along nicely, Zen mused, concentrating on the patch of ground in front of him. While the others seemed to be breaking up their ground, or removing chunks out of it, he focused more on creating dens in the ground, forcing the rocks to go to either side, which Mikayl promptly whisked away.

They made a good team, though Mikayl was a bit sore that he was stuck with removing rubble.

If they all kept working at this rate, they would be able to have the den carved out in the next two days, and another two days to fill the crater with water and freeze it. The freezing part, the European would have to leave to everybody else. He had sparse knowledge of how to manipulate water, and even less on changing its density.

Rowan stirred the stew over the fireplace in the hatchery, her dinner. Jisa had done the hunting for her, bringing two rabbits back. One for herself and Saffron to share, the other to Rowan. Ilythiiri wasn't much help, she refused to exit the den and hunt in the broad daylight. And when she did go hunting in the night, she still rarely came back with anything- Ilia couldn't adjust even to the dim light of the moon.

Rowan covered the pot to let it simmer and then went back to tending to the eastern egg, covering it with more warm sand. The nursery was extremely hot, and she stepped outside for a moment to get a reprieve from the heat. And then she saw Ari approaching.

Rowan helped the new rider cover the Lunar egg in the sand as Ari gave her a description of her mother's health.

Rowan took it in stride, well aware of her mother's poor health. Ever since Luneka had been born, the woman had become weaker and weaker by the day. But that didn't mean she didn't feel a twinge of worry coiling around her heart.

---

The next day, the two clans were back to work again. Since they had finished digging up and smoothing out the hole, they were filling it with water today. A stream trickled down the mountain nearby, and soon Edoc'sil worked on diverting part of it's flow towards the hole, a cunning stone-mesh made by Spirit preventing any fish from following the water.

Water ran steadily from the stream, filling up the hole slowly. Rosemary was at a lower part of the stream, where more water ran, and magically carried over large globes of water.

Oreo and Zen worked together on summoning rain clouds with their storm magic, and spent their time controlling the downpour so that it's localized in and around the hole.

The rest of the Kyns were farther up the mountain, where snow was deep. Everyone breathed their Kynfire, melting the snow, water trickling down the mountain. Two angled walls were created with stone to funnel the water down towards the path that headed straight into the hole that would become Aezhenn's den.

And after a whole day of toiling, the large hold they had carved out recently slowly began filling with water. Once they finish with this task, they can begin to freeze it tomorrow.

Zen frowned as he urged his moderately sized storm cloud to pour a bit faster and more. Night was crawling up on them and even for a group of Kyn it was unsafe to be out this late.

Since they would be freezing the lake tomorrow, Zen decided to stay at Edoc'sil, since he would be of no help to them and would possibly impede their progress with his presence taking up space. They had decided on digging out a basement of sorts, for Kyn who didn't have the ability to harness water magic. Like himself. But he wouldn't be living in the basement area, merely using its entrance.

---

The next morning, Mikayl sprinted with eagerness showing in his spirited gait. Finally. A reason for him to show off his water magic. And if they were going to live in this den, he'd have to use water magic and earth magic at the same time to be able to see, if they were going to add a thin layer of stone on top of the ice. It'd be a challenge, alright, but would it ever be fun.

They reached the site of the half-finished den quickly, taking all and any shortcuts they'd discovered in the few days they'd been working on the area. Zen had told them he was going to stay at Edoc'sil that day with Ari and the new Lunar egg she'd found. Just as well, it wasn't like he could use water magic anyways.

Actually, if he was right, only Rosemary could use water magic anyways. Eclipse could probably do a little since he was like the master of magic, but everyone else would probably be just as useless as Zen.

In his gleeful thoughts, he forgot to feel for vibrations and he knew something was wrong when his two front paws were met with something wet instead of solid ground. He let out a startled yelp as he fell into the giant block of water they'd made the day before. Frantically, Mikayl pawed at the water for a few moments before he felt something wrap around his midsection and lift him out of the water, placing him back on the ground.

He spluttered a bit before shaking his body to get rid of the water. Dammit! He glared heartily at where the solid ground dipped downward, where he assumed the body of water was.

With a growl in his throat, Mikayl walked up to the edge of the water and focused on his water magic. Right, lowering the temperature of the water until it freezes. Here goes nothing.
PostPosted: Sat Aug 16, 2008 5:25 pm

Rosemary shook her tail to dry it. Normally, she's just summon some wind to help, but she was trying to reserve as much magic as she can. This will be a hard job today.

Just wait a little first. Eclipse told the others, and padded to the side of the water. He went down on his belly and stuck a paw into the water. Clips began to change the magical makeup of the water, tweaking with the natural composition of the element. After a few minutes, Eclipse stumbled backwards and laid down, exhausted.

I've raised the melting point of the water a bit. I'll raise it a bit more in an hour or so, I need to rest. It'll be a lot easier to freeze now, and once I've raised it enough, the ice won't melt naturally. He told the others, and cantered off to rest under the shade of a boulder. I guess that was a pretty tiring task for one Lunar to do, even if it was Clips.

Spirit began to circle over the water, and Rosemary watched her for a moment.

Spear, why did you come? You don't know water magic. She finally asked, the question nagging her for a while now. Spirit just grinned and dived into the water, throwing a wink their way for a moment.

Rosemary stared as a small fireball began to form way up above them, and Spirit burst out of the water, leaving ice in her wake.

Eclipse taught me. I can use the heat energy from the water to fuel my fire magic. I can freeze it this way. Spirit answered Rosemary's awed look, and dived back into the water. Just try not to freeze me OK you two? I can't collect the energy indirectly, so I'll have to keep diving.

Rosemary shook her head in amazement and began to work.

And somehow, by the end of the day, the four Kyns managed to freeze the entire thing. Eclipse's spells helped enormously, keeping the frozen ice frozen, and making the process easier in general.

They returned to the den to find that the others had hunted and left a nice big dinner for them all. When everything finally calmed down, Rosemary trotted off to the hatcheries to check in on their newest Eastern egg.

The next day, it was Zen who accompanied Edoc'sil to the new den while Mikayl stayed back at the den with Ari. They should finish soon; she was starting to get suspicious as to why they were disappearing all the time. At least now they could start carving out the actual ice caves.

Most of them would be using their inner fire, while the kyns who could use fire magic would be using that. Some had even devised a way to carve by using their water magic.

From the beginning, Zen had been forming a sort of mental map of how the tunnels and caves would look, and after he'd voiced them out loud, he and Edoc'sil began on carving out the ice the best they could with what he had told them.

It was unfortunate that he couldn't actually go down into the actual level of the den before they expanded the ice opening more. Otherwise his wings would be cramped and he might very well get stuck inside the large tunnel.

Zen absently breathed a little bit more flame at the opening as he hovered slightly over the large ice indent. It seemed the carving out of the tunnels would take another day or so. The day after that, they could add thin layering of rock to everything so things don't get damp, then they can present the new den to Ari.

Eclipse was still rather tired from his efforts yesterday (enchanting the entire lake by himself like that is not easy you know) and he decided to stick with Kynfire as with everyone else. In the digging out, Spirit proved the most effective out of everyone. Being the biggest, her Kynfire was the most intense, coupled with her impressive fire magic, and her ability to simply just dig large chunks of ice out with her claws made her the fastest digger, probably doing more than Eclipse, Zephyr, and Oreo combined.

Rosemary wasn't digging things out. Instead, she used her water magic to guide the meltwater and chunks of ice out of the cave and into the same stream they had diverted water from earlier. She was still tired from the day before, but being the princess who had helped Rowan clear out their own den before she was barely four months old, she was made of tougher stuff than she looks.

Soon, the whirlpool was finished, similar in design to the Grand Hollow, except that it tapered into a point as you continued down, giving it the distinctive shape of a whirlpool. While the rest of Edoc'sil and Zen worked on coating a thin layer of rock to the surface of the ice, Rosemary took some of the meltwater and began shaping it into a large disk that would fit over the whirlpool. After shaping the ice around it, Rosemary made it easy to slide off to the side to reveal the staircase and left it open. Anyone with any control over water magic will be able to operate this opening, yet Rosemary made it thick enough for a fully grown kyn to lie on top of it without damaging the disk.

Then, the effort to dig out the entire den began in Ernest. Half of them began working toward the right, the other half working toward the left. Rosemary alternated between the two branching tunnels to collect the water and fly them behind her out. The main tunnel was completed first, with the two different tunnels coming into contact right at the tip where room 9 would be.

Then, each Kyn went to a different location to melt out individual rooms. By the end of the day, half of the rooms were about a quarter of the way finished. Tomorrow, they'll finish carving out the full extent of the planned rooms, line them with rock, and make the Staircase and garden.

The den will be completed by the end of tomorrow.

Mikayl stepped back a few times to admire the handiwork the others had done yesterday when he'd been helping Ari with the newly dubbed 'Juniper'. He had made a mental note to start teaching the younger Lunar Water magic as soon as possible.

Almost done, right? he asked rhetorically, feeling the shape of the caves below. The ice entrance was done, and they just had to carve out a little more ceiling room in the caves.

If he was right, they could finish the den today and present it to Ari tomorrow!

Excited by the thought of their rider's reaction, Mikayl pranced over to where he felt an added strain of magic. That must be where the disc-like entrance is. He focused on his water magic and successfully slid the disk out of the way before bounding down the stairs of what was dubbed the 'Whirlpool'.

As he ventured into the half-finished rooms, it was becoming increasingly harder to keep his head up. Finally, out of sheer frustration, Mikayl used his water magic to throw up the ceiling about a meter or two, leaving ample room for him to trounce around.

Perfect.

He continued exploring the almost-finished den, repeating the procedure with any cave with too-low ceilings.

We're done, we're done! Mikayl yelped in glee as he came bounding out of the Whirlpool to meet with Edoc'sil and Zen. Someone go get Ari!

You do it, Zen suggested, his tone strangely blank. Mikayl immediately was wary. Indeed, the European had ulterior motives. You need to spend some more time bonding with Juniper, anyways. You're the only one who hasn't been with her any time they can.

Wha- Fine! Mikayl huffed, sprinting off towards Edoc'sil.

Just who did Zen think he was anyways? Saying that he'd been avoiding June. Hmph. He wasn't avoiding her! It was... just weird being the middle kyn. Zen was the new Prince of Aezhenn Chalm (they'd agreed on the name after the whole water-based den thing) and June was now the baby of the clan.

It felt really weird.

Ari! he practically screamed through their bond. He allowed himself a wide smirk when his earth magic detected something crashing to the floor in Ari's room. Oh, it was Ari. Hey, it seemed like his vibrations were reaching further and further.

"Mikayl, what the HELL DID YOU DO THAT FOR?!" she screeched at him furiously. He winced at the sheer volume of her voice but nudged her towards the entrance of Edoc'sil.

C'mon, we've got something to show you.

---

Ari just stared blankly at the huge expanse of ice in front of her. Had... they done all of this? How was that possible? And... It was a den! A den of their very own!

Her excitement finally caught up with her shock and she wrapped her arms around Mikayl's neck in a choking grip. Ari sent Zen an evil eye that said if he didn't lean down right now, he was going to be in a lot of pain later. He immediately complied, so Ari could wrap her arms around his neck as well.

"Oh, you guys..." she sniffed, a little embarassed to be caught crying. "OOOOH!"

Ari, you're choking us!
