K, I want to be healthier. My family isn't very healthy or active, so if you know some tips to getting healthier pass them on...

Eat healthy. Lots of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Cut down on sugar, foods with artificial colors, flavors, and preservatives, and meat. Try to eat organic foods if you can, and only eat until you feel satiated.

Also, establish an everyday exercise program for yourself and your family. Do stuff like weight training, yoga, and various aerobic exercises. Tailor your program to fit your needs.

Additionally, sign up for an organized sport of some sort. That way you can have fun and get exercise at the same time, and maybe even meet some new friends.

Find someone who knows what they're doing and ask them to show you some things.

You don't have to do anything monumental to get healthier. I'm not an athletic person, nor do I ever really wish to be, so I try to find ways to exercise that don't feel like exercise, like riding my bike along a flat, peaceful trail, going swing dancing, playing outdoor games with friends, etc. It's fun, and it gets me active, which makes me feel better about myself. When I was at college I walked everywhere and it really helped me, too. If you aren't athletic or ready to commit to a serious work out program, try finding activities you enjoy that get you moving. . It won't feel like exercise, but you'll benefit from it. And if you decide that you want to go further from there, then you can go for it. That's just my style of things.

Like LemonBooya said, don't change everything at once. Just start with walking around a lot, and working on fruits and veggies. I know I need to work on it...heh heh. I love veggies, but I can't eat a ton of fruit. I dunno why. And I eat waaay too much meat...hehehe.

I go for a walk every day in the last half of my lunch. Not a "leisurely stroll" but a nice strong walk, hard enough to be an effort but not so hard I'm all worn out.

Also, I love my stationary bike. Sitting and reading? Do it on the bike. Watching TV? Do it on the bike. Doing those two things and eating healthy foods in moderate amounts has dropped me almost 2 pants sizes.

Haha, well I'm a really atheletic kid so here's my opinion. It worked for me but I also had no choice. Do running and other excercises like high knees, lunges, build up running. I did it for football but it worked so well, I am in really good shape now and have shaved off half of a second for my 40 yard dash time since summer began because of it. (For those of you who don't know taking off half a second in the 40 yard dash is really good.) Now I did it for an hour a day 4 days a week. I suggest starting slowly such as 15-30 minutes a day 3-4 days a week. Hope I was of some help.

That's one of the most important parts of healthy exercise: find an activity that you enjoy and that isn't too far out of your normal habits. I planned to walk 10 minutes before breakfast. I did it once and never again because it was too far outside my usual pattern. My walks at lunch though are wonderful. Half an hour where I don't have to answer the phones and can space out as much as I like. I'm an introvert so that alone time helps me recharge. I started a couple of months ago and have kept it up every day with only some exceptions for weather or sick days.
