this is random but I just thought about it, if the strings of a guitar were further apart would it affect the sound? that plus if a guitar were missing a string would it still sound the same?

Well if a string snaps then its gonna tweak the tuning. So you'd have to retune the strings if that answers that question.
As far as string distance. Are you talking about the nut width? Such as the difference between playing a gibson and a jackson? the jacksons (types) have wider necks and DO have more spacing in between the string than a gibson (type). In my opinion this makes playing alot cleaner sounding because you don't get the buzz/hum from the surrounding strings. But some people like that so I guess it depends on you.
