So everyone, here is my creepy story.
As you may know, I do a lot more theoretical than practical magic. But I have built my own altar, located at my girlfriend's mom's house, which works really well when I do have something to do. But recently I've come back to visit, and in the center of my altar, I found this stone.

Now, if you're blind or can for some reason only read and not see it, it's a round, small head sized rock, with what appears to be eye spots. It was facing this way when I located it on the altar, the angle that makes it appear most like a face.
Now, this is the creepy part, I can't figure out how it got there. I've asked of everyone I hang out with and everyone I think could have been there, but so far no one has. I'm going to check absolutely everyone I can get, but I'm running out of people, the remainder less and less likely to have put it there.
So it's entirely possible that this stone seems to have gotten there without any person placing it there. What do you think I should do with it? How many bricks should I s**t if no one at all put it there?

a**l Jesus I think someone is lying just to ******** with you. I say crack it open and see whats inside! Well, it's one nice big hunk of quartz or w/e, so I don't know if I want to break it. Plus if it's extraworldly legit, I don't want to anger an indian grave or something.

I don't really have things that scary me, but the closest thing to something eerie like that would be that my school (ex school I suppose now) is built roughly ontop of an old prision burial area.
Whatever the case, keep us updated if anything comes up. It reminds me of the face of Jack Skelington.

S'likely someone put it there, to be sure. Is it not possible that your girlfriend's mom or your girlfriend could've put it there because they thought you'd dig it, mayhaps? For a really out-there explanation: Sailing stones.

From the picture, it looks like it's outside. Is that the case?

SpiralRasengan From the picture, it looks like it's outside. Is that the case? That would be the case, it's hanging out on a footrest right outside the house, where I moved it in from my altar farther away in the woods.
My good Sir Mitsh, I also am attempting the skeptical point of view and semi-assuming someone moved it, but I currently have no likely suspects. The girlfriend hasn't been down here, she's been at the house with me. Same with all my other friends who even know the altar is there. Girlfriend's mom I'm not sure knows about the altar, if she does, doesn't care very much, and in fact when she got home she was staring at the stone in a very convincing act that she had never seen it before and was wondering what the hell it was. This is before I told her a thing about it. Altar is on her property so it is nigh-impossible someone outside showed up, found it in it's place, and placed a stone which I've never seen before. So I will continue to investigate but as of now have no theories.
Also, PS, Sailing stones = pretty creepy. I think it would be excellent if they find it impossible to locate a scientific explanation for them. That'd creep out everyone, ey?

Well, other ideas would be: Use the stone as a focus/fetish/witness in a ritual to find out who it belonged to, if anyone; you could google up some guides on Psychometry. Then hunt down the past owner, or hex them til their spinal fluid leaks out. Draw some Kirby features on it, and banish any negativity with laughter. Disenchant it, then give it some koo new purpose. After all, it is kind of neat looking.

This is going to sound heavily sarcastic, but I swear it isn't:
Try asking the rock. Totally not trying to be an asshat here, but really - who better to answer your worries? I mean, if that isn't something you're good at, that's fine, but my guess is you know someone who could step in if you're not so good at being chatty with things. I'm actually pretty good at it, which is why I thought of it. "When all you have is a hammer..." Still, I think in this case it's a sound approach. Also doesn't involve smashing a perfectly awesome rock which would probably sell for a good $40-$80 from my local quarry.
Oh yeah, and I *completely* agree with Dorian that the rock looks like Jack Skellington. I saw the picture before I read the setup, and I was all, "Goddammit, Ritter finds the coolest stuff! I want a rock that looks like Jack Skellington!!!"
