Golden.
He could only describe this day as golden. The air was light and the breeze came happily, wrapping around his form and passing by a moment later at its own whims.
Dimitri Solidari smiled faintly as he lay outstretched on an extended rock jutting out from the otherwise plain yet sloping foothills.
It was a quiet place, calm and serene where he tended to go on oft occasion to muse on things as he always did.
He talked with his eyes closed, one hand behind his head for support, the other lying within reach of his trusted broadsword, not expecting any trouble, but more than prepared should the need arise.

"I wonder," he said aloud to himself," what our purpose is in this world. Certainly as a paladin of Light, we are to fight the darkness and bring peace to the realms... but what then? What happens when all the fighting, all the sadness, all the conflict ends? What purpose do we have if there is no evil to fight?"

Dimitri sighed aloud and lay back his head once more, allowing the sun to touch his face unabated as he rest and left his thoughts to remain unspoken and simply confined within his own consciousness.

But there is always evil... In this life, evil is constantly lurking, sometimes in shadows, and sometimes in the light of day. The work of a paladin, no the work of an everyday person is always present. The conflict will never end.

The golden sun of day begins to dim as it is slowly overrun by clouds. A natural phenomenon of day... What isn't so natural is the swirling dark winds caused by an unknown force. Seemingly gathering together at one point, the winds turn into a black mist, diffusing itself into the atmosphere. Soon, the entire area becomes enshrouded in darkness.

Emerging from the shadows are three tall creatures. Over all, the creatures bear a similar appearance, signifying they are all of the same species. Appearing human-like in the manner that they carry themselves upon two legs, but gargantuanly bestial in their overly muscular appendages. Due to the creatures blackened skin it is almost impossible to see them within the dark misty atmosphere, but thanks to their piercing, crimson, red eyes, one is sure to acknowledge their presence.

After letting out a fiercely loud, crying roar, the three creatures, demons, lunge for the philosophical warrior with their fists pulled back ready to strike.

The area where Dimitri had lain in rest became scorched as his feet had set ablaze and carried him to a safe distance a few yards away, leaving a black trail of soot in its path.

"Demons... What could such vile beasts be doing in the Foothills?"

Shaking his head, the seasoned soldier unsheathed his lightweight broadsword and took up a combative stance, prepared for the oncoming assault. His eyes narrowed and faced the three demons as they began to close in.

Letting out a furious shout, the warrior charged headlong into the oncoming group, leaping into the air and slashing down at one, having his blade cut deep into one of its muscular appendages only to return to the air as its retaliatory strike was about to come in.

Ferociously the beasts reached for him, taking lumbering swings only to find their target was missing or that their claws were deflected by that ever-annoying sword.

With one flying leap, Dimitri launched himself upwards and drove his blade into the chest of one of the monsters and extracting the sword as it began to let out a blood-curdling death howl. As he tried to rebound from the falling corpse, one of the remaining two caught him by the leg and spun him around, releasing him spiraling to the ground, crashing into a nearby stone.

He could feel the warmth of his own blood in his mouth. With a smirk, he spit the crimson liquid onto the ground and stretched his neck, causing a series of creaking pops.

"This could be more of an interesting afternoon than I expected."

He returned to his battle stance and prepared for the remaining demons' assault.

The dead corpse falls to the ground and upon impact with it, the beast dissipates into the darkness enshrouding the area. Emerging from the mist, the second creature charges forth with its mouth gaped open as another ferocious roar breaks through the air.

Hidden well within the darkness and surprisingly quiet, the last remaining beast dissipates into the shadows and leaves its comrade to face the holy knight on its own, almost as if it has other matters to attend to.

It is a mystery as to why these demons decided to rear their gruesome presence to one of the knights. Demons do lurk throughout the sacred mountainous holy ground, but hardly ever make themselves known.

Dimitri Solidari was never one to run from a fight, in fact he abhorred the mere notion of retreating. At the sight of the fleeing demon, he became enraged and dives deep into his own mind, drawing out his Inner Focus.

The holy knight's irises became a bright white, blending into his eye-sockets.

Dimitri made no noise, no movement as the massive demon charged in. It's teeth barred and claws reaching to gore the lone soldier. One arm swung back ready to strike, diving straight towards the man only to crush straight into the ground where he had been standing, sending dust, rocks and grass flying in all directions.

Just a few feet above the monster however, the knight dove back down and landed gracefully on his enormous arm, sprinting upwards, dragging his blade in deep, cutting through flesh and bone. The beast could barely roar before the sword sliced through the beast's vocal cords and with one final ferocious slash, it's neck became non-existent and the head collapsed first its body followed right behind, leaving a cloud of dust surrounding the warrior of Light who landed safely beside the fallen corpse.

His eyes returned to their natural shade, and Dimitri fell to one knee, driving his bloodied sword into the ground for support. With a heaving sigh, he tossed back his brown hair and gathered his breath.

"Always more questions... never an answer."

((Exceptional writing, but you did do some heavy autoing. Yeah, these demons were NPCs, but they're still characters that are being roleplayed, so in the future, leave the effects of your attacks to the one being attacked.))

((Yeah, that's the only reason I did it. I try to limit my puppeting as much as possible when dealing with other peoples' actual characters, i.e. no killing blows, KO's, crippling strikes etc. But I am rather experienced in combat text 3nodding so I do enjoy a good fight now and again.))

Gabrielle had heard some roars, these roars could not be mistaken for any others. Demons were in the Foothills! As silently and quickly as she could she ran towards the direction of the sounds, soon to hear that someone was fighting them. Grabbing Aqual, she arrived in the glade. In front of her eyes, laid one of the dead beast. Looking further she noticed that a Knight was fighting a second one. And that it was obvious that he did not need any help. Putting her sword back, she laid against a tree, admiring his ability. His technique was unique, however she was surprised that he used so high energy abilities for such a 'low' target.
When the fight was over, she clapped. "Impressive." was her only comment.

The paladin pulled out his sword from the ground as he heard the clapping.

Dimitri looked towards the direction of the voice. A woman, quite exotic in appearance, she was very attractive at first glance but something about her didn't seem natural.

"Well met, fair lady... I must apologize for my appearance. My garments and armor typically are not quite so drenched in blood."

He glanced at the two demon's corpses and returned his view to the woman in front of her.

"You are of what affiliation, might I ask?"

Gabrielle looked more closely at the man. He must have been slightly older than her although his brown-grey hair and something in his eyes made him appear older. Her amber eyes skimmed through his garments and armor. She did not mind the blood. Luckily for her, demon blood had never arisen her growing thirst for blood like human blood was. She was not wearing her white and silver armor anymore, but black leather clothing, strong and simple fabric. She was finding herself unworthy of the Holy armor but she was going on her mission of protecting the world from darkness.

She answered with a smile "There is nothing to apologize for my Lord...your noble action spared me to do the job myself..." she added, taking a closer look at the demons corpses. Their smell was disgusting, even worse than demons she had fought before. Something was wrong.

She slowly rose, a thoughtful look on her face. "How come they are here..." she whispered, her amber eyes glaring at the corpses. She turned to the paladin, her movement made her onyx necklace, a cross, revealed itself on her chest in the opening of her black shirt.
"My Lord...May I ask you one thing? Did You attack Them or...did They attack You?"

"These beasts appeared from the shadows and charged me as I was resting. I know not why they have appeared all of a sudden, but I've heard rumors of their sightings becoming more and more frequent."

Dimitri ran a hand across his face wiping some of the sweat and blood away then turned to one of the corpses and kicked it once out of aggravation.

"Unfortunately there were three of them and one escaped before I could prevent it from fleeing. I would not have delved into my stronger techniques had these two been all that I was facing."

The scholarly warrior looked back to the woman.

"Oh where are my manners, I have yet to introduce myself. I am Dimitri Solidari, currently a 3rd Rank member of the Holy Knights. Whom might I ask am I speaking with?"

Gabrielle's eyes darken when she heard that a third one was there. Had I known...I should have known...he is no fool...he is a knight...there was a reason why he used higher powers... He was fighting and all she did was watching...and clapping. She felt stupid.

As he introduced himself, she looked at him with deep eyes. "I failed you." she said with a bow.
She paused and then added "I am Gabrielle Camille. A third rank too. And I should have helped you. Please accept my apologies."

She was thirty year old but at that moment she felt like a beginner...It is not because you cannot see the danger...that there is none... she scolded herself.

"It's an honor, milady. I've already stated why I was out this far from the Citadel. Why have you come to the Shining Foothills? I was not expecting the demons, but I was also not expecting company out this far either."

He gave her a disarming smile as the breeze finally decided to pick up again.
PostPosted: Thu Jun 19, 2008 9:29 am

"The honor is mine." she answered. She hesitated before answering his question. On the one hand, she did not know him. On the other hand, he was a Holy Knight. In any case she could not lie. "I am here to find the Old Hermit Pal." That was the truth. Although a shorten version...

His smile took her off guard and she looked away. At that moment, she was happy that he was not wounded and that she was in good health or else a combination of his smile and his blood, added to her tiredness would have created sparkles in her mind.

She looked around wondering "Shall we track the last demon...? Hmmm...it might be far by now..." she was half talking to herself, half asking Dimitri his opinion without having to cross his eyes.

Dimitri looked off into the distance, in the direction of the Holy City and shrugged.

"I had intended on reporting the event with the demons to someone within the citadel, but it is of no urgency. The demon is likely long gone by now, however, even though I'm fairly skilled at following tracks, I doubt we'd find anything, these demons came from the shadows and it likely departed within them. It would be a fruitless pursuit."

Returning his view to the woman, he smiled and shrugged again.

"I have nowhere else to be at this time, would you care for a traveling companion to your destination?"
