Ah, the Arcade.

The Arcade is a video game arcade, a lounge, and a cafeteria. You may not always find a lot of adults in there, but there are lots of kids, mostly highschoolers and college students. The Arcade recently opened about four years ago. It’s a fairly nondescript place, located inside a large refurbished warehouse. Kids come here to chat, use the internet, and play videogames.

The cafeteria is just what it is, a cafeteria. Ever been to Golden Corral or K+W? Yeah. It’s like that. It serves soup, salad, pastries, and beverages. The coffe counter serves coffe and soda, as well as juice and milk. The lounge has overstuffed armchairs and sofas, including a small sectional and ottomans. The coffee tables are often used for board games. The computer lab holds 20 computers with high-speed internet, and the arcade part of the Arcade is filled with games.

Life in the Arcade

Two years ago, one of the local college students programmed a new game, and wanted the Arcade to test it out. It’s called the Mary Sue Bash. It remains a very popular game today, as a joke among all the roleplayers in the Arcade. It’s a side-scrolling adventure game where you travel across fantasy worlds, straightening out Mary Sues. It’s not uncommon for the teens to gather around and watch their friends play (there are ambush sessions where you can have up to 8 players fighting off hordes of annoying Mary Sues). Sessions are often broadcasted on the big flat screen TV near the lounge and smaller CRT televisions around the cafeteria, with avid Literature students writing down what happens and turning it into a full blown story.

Of course, the arcade has plenty of other games too. Pac-Man, racing games, shooters and whatnot, along with a bookshelf filled with chess sets, checkers, Scrabble, and other board games. Again, some students have active imaginations, and write epic stories to follow the movements of the board players. Then there’s the chance that everyone clears off the lounge floors, brings out the Legos and trading cards, and they all have an epic cross-game battle (Ms. Peacock, I choose you! Attack Babe Ruth’s bishop with the lead pipe!) It’s inherently obvious that these teens don’t get out very often.

Speaking of which, what would the arcade be without the customers and the management? The person who owns the place is a very kind person and the night guards have no objections to letting the students in during the night to cram for the big science test tomorrow. Of course, as long as they’re clean, and notify their parent/legal guardian. There is a strict no drugs, no alcohol and no weapons rule at the Arcade. The management treats the teens like their children, and the owner isn’t above calling parents when there’s a situation. Nor are the teens above fighting each other. Not physically, of course, but when there’s an argument, the rule at the arcade is that you must settle it out with a game duel. No punches, just good hard button-mashing.

Clarification
Do you like writing and adventures? Are you one of those infamous Literature studedts from the Big School? Allow me to explain. When you are playing a game, you can say, "Tom dodged the goblin's tackle, then used the kick attack to defeat it." However, you can have an alternate, detailed version where you are almost in the video game. "MasterTom56 carefully eyed the incoming goblin. Smirking, he smoothly dodged the puny creature's attack, and leapt up into the air. Reveling in the creatures frightened expressions, he brought his leg down, crushing the creatures skull into half." A roleplay within a rolelay.

• Repairmen
• Cafeteria staff
• Barista
• Night guards

• Homeless people?
• Hobos?
• The occasional parent

Competition
You didn’t think Arcade was the only place in town, right? There are other places trying to put the Arcade out of business, so that they can get their money, er, customers back.

• Et Cetera

He's always hungry and eats dessert first thing in the morning.
History: She was hitchhiking the universe, and somehow came into the galaxy that held Earth. She had a choice of two planets that her life scanner found life on, Mars and Earth. She chose Earth because Mars sounds like an ugly name. She has about 3400 siblings, she's the middle child, so of course she was ignored most of the time.
