The Frozen Residence

Frostschild parliment in recent years has made it extra difficult for the growing shanty town to encroach on the industrial sector. This has forced the most unfortunate citizens and illegals to take up residence outside the warmth of the city. Using long forgotten simple building techniques the ingenious lower class have built sturdy semi-insulated shacks and homes amongst the snow drifts and harsh winds.

There are no modern amenities here, there are barely even roads. Only well trod and ill-maintained pathways.

If you're virtually hungry eat a virtual meal
If you're virtually sick do you virtually heal?

"YeeeaaaaaaaAANGH."

Lahren pulled his arms back out of the stretch, yawning as he felt his spine loosen up again, and casting a baleful glance at his snowmobile before moving on to his neck.

Buggering thing really got him stiff.

Brawwwwwwwahhhhh.

Enter Joseph Brown gunning his snowmobile way ahead of the others. Mr. Bryant was more a slow and steady person, while Mr. Brown was more of a "lets do the cool s**t NOW" person. Thus it would likely be a bit before the head honcho himself arived with a few of the slower members of the caravan.

Joseph had hoped that some others were speed demons. He so hated to be alone.

"Well ain't this a miserable sight?" He spoke. while taking in the scenery.

Little puffs of frozen breath came from Eileen's lips, the mousy little girl shivering as she hopped off the snowmobile. She was clad in a bundle of thick, green jackets that made her almost appear to be a pillowy, mossy boulder that had sprouted a long brown ponytail. Her gray-green eyes peered about the area, obediently following Bryant's order, as she said, in a really quiet voice to everyone and no one in particular, "...ano, maybe... - do you think they just said it was too cold and left?"

Gambion shivered. It was damn cold out here, and he was glad as hell he had brought his heavy cloak along. Of course, he always brought his cloak just about everywhere, but usually he tended to take it off as soon as he got somewhere a bit warm. It didn't look like that would be very soon now though, the snow here seemed never ending, and it didn't look like those ramshackle sheds would be of much help keeping warm.

Those big bubbles off towards the city proper were supposed to be heated. That would probably be the best place to head for. Besides, it was deeper into the city, and there certainly didn't seem to be any survivors or whatnot around here.

Gambion tugged the cloak tighter around his form with a black gloved hand. The black turtleneck underneath helped as well, but the wind still cut through his clothes.

"I vote we take the quickest way in." He said, face stung by the snow blowing around his sunglasses that were mercifully keeping the brightness of the reflective snow from his eyes. His boots crunched holes in the snow as he got off his snowmobile for a moment to look around, punching deep holes in the white carpet beneath him. He pointed off towards the Hovels, keeping his hand mostly inside his cloak. "I think it's that way." He said as he got back on his snowmobile.

-crunch-

Off the snow mobile and on his feet again at last, one of this rather large collection of would-be adventurers was stretching and pacing through the snow.

Arms up, elbows out, and twist. Knees straight, feet together, lean forward. Hands to jaw, and crank, with cracking noises that probably indicated this form of stretching was less beneficial to him than the others.

Now, the TV specials showed a couple parts of the city. And when they were attacked, they said they were in a poor portion of...

He reached up, pulling his wind goggles off his eyes and down around his neck- revealing a moderately plain face, but for dark red eyes and scars on either cheek. He quickly tugged up the collar of his coat around his jaw however, and then the cap down, covering himself against the wind. As well of eyes, of course.

Celebrity, he'd had enough time to find, even just a little of it, sucked. Hard.

The expeditioner put a hand to the strap running over his coat, playing with the broad-bladed sword sheathed and tossed across his back, checking that. As well as, quickly, the thick leather gloves and boots he wore, each with metal plating covering them. Assurances, despite whatever claim there was about this field of invulnerability.

This area is plenty poor, but...

He trodded among the shanties, putting a hand on a door tentatively and pushing it open to look inside.

We don't seem to be inside the city.

Which means those bastards goons are probably waiting for us inside.

He checked the building anyway, taking a few steps inside and huffing little misty clouds of breath into the arctic air.

He wasn't surprised that there was plenty of noise from everyone else. Honestly, there wasn't much reason to be solemn if you just took this for what it was. It was unfortunate, but didn't effect anyone here personally. Then again, he wanted to fix it more than to get some discoveries posted. Fix it, and assure himself he was wrong about there being something more going on behind all of this.

Of course, that was all a touch misleading, much as it was true. He'd plenty of dark humor and might have been cracking wit through the middle of it all.

The fact was, Kael just tended to get quiet when he was thinking.

"I wouldn't blame these guys for buggering off," Joseph shrugged, "But he's right, it's warm inside and we best come up with a plan of action here."

"Ideas anyone? We're likely gonna enter in the industrial sector, so I'm not sure what we'll find there."

"We-eee-ell...." Statement interrupted by yawn. "Er. Heading to warmer territory sounds like a good plan to me. Damn coat's annoying...."

Lahren was in a dark green, and notably large Parka zipped up, with the fuzzy hood up around his head. Got a pair of winter-region coverall-things, too. Snowpants or whatever they called them. All the clothing bulk wasn't something he was used to.

The frosty air flowed across Mozz’s face has he rode his snowmobile in procession with the others. In truth, Mozz was a little nervous on this contraption as he had never driven one before. So, unsure of himself, he kept a moderate pace, speeding up now and again at “safe looking” places amongst the snow drifts to keep up. It wasn’t surprising then, that he wasn’t the first man on the scene.

After a somewhat wobbly stop, he hopped off his snowmobile and ran towards some familiar faces. “Hey! Whats the situation look like?”

Aiolos wasn't as quick on the snowmobile as everyone else. He was slowly catching up with the rest of the crowd. He parked and tugged at his fingerless gloves and blew into his hands. He didn't want his hands freezing up while he played. At least Bryant mentioned the snow, or Aiolos wouldn't have bundled up. There was a sweater and fleece underneath his shirt, and he brought a thicker version of his wing cloak for the occasion.

He tilted his sunglasses at the decrepit town and let out a whistle.

"This is depressing." He mumbled to himself before he got off his snowmobile to join the others. He stood next to Gambion.

Pulling his snowmobile in close to where everyone else who had decided to move ahead had parked theirs, Raymond dismounted with less than graceful style. Truth be told that was his first time ever actually driving a motorized vehicle, as he had been all too poor back in the city to even afford a run down car or truck. So today Raymond had almost fallen off his snowmobile, but in a last minute display of grace he recovered and put both feet o the ground.

"I would imagine we would find factories, perhaps a few stores scattered around, some housing that I would say isn't much better than what is here." Raymond added in to answer his companions(Joseph) question. How did Raymond know such things? well he lived right near the industrial sector of Durem, and such knowledge came with time. Truth was Raymond was perhaps the least experienced member of this particular expedition, but he wasn't hired for his brain or his wit so he figured he would be fine. He had his rifle slung of his shoulder, and under his k-mart quality snow parka was his ballistics vest. He was a gunman, a part time gunman actually, not a researcher.

Clutter. Squander. It was saddening to look at, he could almost imagine as they'd simply moved on or lost this rather than dissappeared with the rest of the city. No surprise that there was nothing special to find inside.

Just the remnants of someone's home, one they'd been ripped away from.

"...what we're looking for is probably inside of the city. The only reason to be out in this wasteland is to intercept people coming."

Kael trotted back out of the hovel, toward the group. Toward his machine, really. He sat down on the snow mobile and did a quick shuffle through his pockets and the compartment around his waist. The phone worked. The pouch was full. His pants weren't quite as warm as he'd hoped though- that was mostly the wind, though, he thought. Shouldn't be much more than that considering the layers he had on underneath.

"News team got attacked my something in some kind of poor area. It may or may not still be there."

Stand up again. More agitated shuffling about.

"...call me crazy, but I wanna check that out first. Rather have a look see at this thing now than let it find me later."

Taking command? No, not really. He was being decisive, but it sounded like he was talking to himself more than anything. They already had the rich charismatic hotheads to think they were in control of the team of crazy, head-first hotheads.

"Christ, y'all that excited about getting warm?" He looked out at the bunch from behind tinted goggles, "Ok, so am I, let's move out into the hovels. The rest should be close enough to us to see our tracks, or at least close enough to Bryant to get some new orders."

"We'll decide where to go when we're warm."

"...ano..the quickest way does sound good..." her quiet voice was now becoming a bit muffled and trembly as she attempted to turtle into her jackets a bit more for warmth. After a moment, she waddled to just behind where Joseph was standing, and said, "ampho... if we're goinf info pha infphustrial center...wouldn't phere be trucks and crates and stuph...?"

Nylon rustles indictated some sort of fidgeting within her jacket bundle. She'd pulled her arms into the jacket bundle it seems, and was now presumably rubbing her gloved hands together for warmth. Just after Kael spoke, she added, "...i hoof we don't run infoo anyphing scary like that phoah."

"Cold and white." Gambion said to the man who had asked what the situation looked like. "So pretty much like it has been for the past few hours." He nodded to the others, it looked like they were pretty much going to take his suggestion, for various reasons. "Let's roll then."

He gunned the engine on his snowmobile and buzzed forward, heading out towards the Hovels.

He wasn't positive on why he was so good with machines, when it seemed like so many people had trouble with them. Probably something from his life that he couldn't remember had him working with a lot of vehicles, he really had yet to find one that he couldn't at least get around on. Except those Segway things. Those were just weird.
