----------
Well, if you don't know by now there was a Hurricane called Katrina that hit down south of the United States. I really don't know much about where it hit I just know it hit right down there with Lousinia and such. Definitely hit New Orleans. It's everywhere.
One of the big issues right now are we didn't prepare enough for something like this. If you ask me I think there should have been a lot more done to prepare for it. I remember sitting in the doctor's office (physical therapy) and watching them name the Hurricane Katrina. I laughed at them calling it that. So, I definitely think there could have been more done
Another big issue is that it took so long to address the issue. It took something like 5 days to address the issue. I honestly think that's too long. Something that big shouldn't have been neglected that long.
I think the media is a problem. They're covering these stories like people drink water. It's almost disgusting. I'm sure their ratings have gone up. You have all these reporters going around covering the news when they could be... I don't know, maybe, helping? s**t, why can't they do this with the war in Iraq?
I, personally, think this is an embarrassment to our country. Not that we didn't prepare. That's kind of understandable, but it doesn't seem like they're doing anything about it or as much as they could. Everyone just seems to be giving money. All I see on the news are interviews and some people being helped, some choppers, etc. When 9/11 happened you saw the interviews but you saw like three million fire fighters helping.
Despite my opinion, it's happening, people are dying, and it's the 6th day I think.

Considering I don''t even live in your country I know a surprising amount about this. These were some of the problems: -Very little preparation -hit an uncommon area -the area is one of the poorest in the country -the area is below sea level which causes the water to pool -after the hurricane hit levies in the area let go flooding the area more -the levies let go because they were not properly maintains -they were not properly maintained because funds were diverted to the war
So the hurricane didn''t actually hit New Orleans and it passed on the preferable side. Other wise it would have dumped much more water on the city and it would have been far worse. Because this is an area that doesn''t get hit often most people didn''t know what to expect and thought they could ride it out. Also a lot of them could not afford to leave. Since the area is poor the drainage systems aren''t that well maintained which is why so much water ended up sitting there.
One of the biggest controversies that has been going around for the last couple of days were some new reports. They had a black man with a loaf of bread in his hands and a white couple also with bread. The caption on the black man said he stole it. The caption on the white couple said they found it.
Honestly you can see a hurricane coming for days. All of this could have been avoided for significantly less money then it''s going to cost now and with a very low loss of life. Hopefully this teaches the country something.
Oh and just so you know the name comes from the number of hurricanes there have been this year. The first of the year is named with an A, second is a B etc etc so this was the 11th hurricane this year.

Oh and just so you know the name comes from the number of hurricanes there have been this year. The first of the year is named with an A, second is a B etc etc so this was the 11th hurricane this year. Yeah, that pretty much sums it up. A lot of things seem to be happening by "mistake" with president Bush. 9/11 happened but they said there could have been many things done to avoid it. There were apparently weapons of mass destruction in the US and apparently there has to be order in Iraq. But he still has time to ban gay marriage and go down to texas. Eh, whatever about him.
Again, that pretty much sums it up. I think FEMA and the President should have done a lot more to help or prepare. If not prepare to block all of it, at least block some to most of it.
I'm debating whether or not I should donate to the cause. I kind of don't want to because compared to the money they have it doesn't seem like it'd be enough; however, everything does count.

Couldn't really find the right word for it. Prevent is probably a better word.

Yeah it's not one of those preventable things. It is a lot like and earthquake or tornado. But since it is a weather pattern they can see it coming they just can't do anything about it.

Evacutation would have been a very good idea, but from what I understand many of the people there refused to evacuate despite being given repeated warnings and chose to stay behind. And by now we can all guess what has happened to them.

And by now we can all guess what has happened to them. I think a lot of them thought it was too expensive to go and things like that. But yeah there could have been a lot more done.

WELL I HAVE READ ALL OF YOUR CONVERSATION (NOT BECAUSE I AM NOSEY BUT I REALLY DO CARE ABOUT THIS ONE)
FIRST OFF I AGREE WITH BUTTERBALLS FIRST POST
I LIVE IN ENGLAND AND I HAVE SEEN SO MUCH ON THIS

THE LEVEES ON NEW ORELDNS RIVER COULD WITHSTAND A SIZE 3 HURRACANE BUT THIS IS A SIZE 5 AND THAT IS WHY IT BROKE
ALSO AFTER THAT IT DID TAKE ABOUT 4/5 DAYS FOR ANY SORT OF FOOD OR WATER OR HELP AT AL TO COME FROM THE PRESEDENT THERE WERE A FEW HELECOPTERS THERE AT THE START BUT NOTHING WAS REALLY BEING DONE
OH s**t I THINK I GOT TO SAY MORE ON THIS BUT RIGHT NOW I GOT TO GO SORRY GUYS CHANCES ARE I WILL BE BACK mrgreen

Yeah, I agree with that and I agree with Chalda's statement; however, I'm going to agree with what I heard on the news in which they should have had massive Free public transportation to evacuate everyone. If not free than very cheap.

I believe it was the President''s firm duty to stand out on the shoreline with a giant towel to block Katrina. Any less and I disapprove of his leadership abilities.

My major problem with the New Orleans situation. They ordered an evacuation. The first things evacuated were the buses, trains, and planes. Leaving only those people with cars a way out of the city. You can figure out why I'm livid from that.
