When you complete the Sheogorath quest, he gives you the wabberjack. When I first got it I thought, "Ooh, I wonder what this does!" So I ran down the hill, equipped it and shot the first bandit I came across with it. When I hit him there was an orange mist around him like you do when you hit people with magical items sometimes... But otherwise it didn't seem to affect him at all...
So I pose this question to you all: does the wabberjack actually do anything?

Well, for one, it's spelled Wabbajack, not Wabberjack.(there is an "a" in the name, but no "er")
But yes, it does do something! It works on any living non-sentient creature in the game. It doesn't work on people(all the races of Cyrodiil) or Dremora(the "people" of Oblivion), because they are sentient beings. Since a Bandit is a sentient being, a person, it didn't work. But if you were to use it on, say, a mudcrab, troll, Daedroth, or even a Xivilai(Xivilai don't count as Dremora). It woulkd cause the "Wabbajack" effect. But it is only temporary. I'm not gonna tell you what it does though, that would ruin the surprise, but it is fun to use! All of the daedric artifacts are useful. Is the Wabbajack the only Daedric artifact you have?

Wabbajack is perhaps the most hardcore piece of anything ever to exist. EVER.

Yes, but only to creatures. You should read up on the items before you go around shooting them, some might have effects that you won't appreciate.

UESP Wiki Very few creatures are immune. A couple who are: Shadowmere, and Llevana's Tunnel Rat. Mehrunes Dagon doesn't appear to be changed in physical appearance, but has a stats change instead. Any other essential (i.e., unkillable) creatures will also be immune. Well I still think Wabbajack is hardcore. I mean, it's got its own book!Wabbajack Maybe the Wabbajack is the Book of Knowledge. Maybe I'm smarter because I know cats can be bats can be rats can be hats can be gnats can be thats can be thises. And that doors can be boars can be snores can be floors can be roars can be spores can be yours can be mine. I must be smart, for the interconnective system is very clear to me. Then why, or wherefore do people keep calling me mad?

Wabbajack is AWESOME. It pretty much fits what you had to do for the quest.

Because I'm a jedi. That is ALWAYS the answer.
For example, "Why did you steal that car?" "Because I'm a Jedi!" "OH MY GOD. YOU JUST PUNTED THAT FIVE YEAR OLD IN THE FACE! Why would you do that!?" "Because I'm a Jedi." "Why did you TP Billy's house?" "He messed with my lightsaber. I am a Jedi."
