Found these pics on the Doctor Who Comm on Livejournal so I'd figured to post it here.

It's from IDW Publishing the same people who brought the previous Doctor Who comics, at least to my limited knowledge. But this looks like a different artist, and It's supposedly going to feature past Doctor's as well.
Sounds awfully similar to the Ten Doctors webcomic.. XD

Looks very interesting :D
And they may be featuring past doctors? <3
I might actually have to get my hands on that somehow...

[my only problem: the cover would be more awesome in general minus the huge label]

OK, this is probably a stupid question... are the DW comics available in the UK, if so I've never seen them or perhaps I'm just looking in the wrong place... it's just everything about that just mentioned (whch I may want just for the pretty art) is US-based...

Like pretty much everything (other than the kids books and compilations that still make it onto the newstands) IDW's comics are direct market books put out through Diamond Distributors...

...which practiaclly means for those of us in the UK that you're never going to see these comics in Tescos next to DWM, Doctor Who Adventures or Battles in Time. Borders might get a few copies in as they sometimes dip a toe into this market, but realisticly you're going to have to go to a specialist comic shop like Forbidden Planet or Travelling Man. If you're lucky enough to live somewhere that's still got an independant comic shop, the nice thing to do would be to send your money thier way.

(While you're there, why not try Paul Cornell's lovely new Captain Britain comic which, as Eirwyn or I will be happy to tell you at length is not unconnected to Who.)

Another option is to 'tradewait'. When these miniseries have finished then the single issues will get collected together into nifty little books, which are usually cheaper to buy than it would have been forking out for the individual comics. These collections will certainly show up in Borders and Waterstones and places like that.

The IDW comics aren't supposed to be available in the UK, because they're license is (if I understand correctly) specific to North America. But there's probably specialty shops that will import copies and resell them at slightly more than cover price. Or, alternatively, there's probably online comic sellers based in the U.S. willing to ship internationally, though that would end up being more expensive (I would think).

From Eirwyn's reviews of the current comic, you're not missing much. I hope this new story will be better. Is it a limited series? Because I can't believe they'd run two unrelated monthly Who comics concurrently.

Captain Britain's got a new comic? I thought he was in Excalibur. But I'm pretty out of the comics loop these days (except for picking up the Annihilation stuff when it comes out in trade format).

Weirdly enough, thanks to the current exchange rates, those of us buying American comics in UK comic stores are effectively paying less for them than Americans are!

As I understand it, this starts after the current comic has concluded.
(I'd belive anything though...since over here we've three unconnected Who comics running!)

Well...this book would have been called Excalibur, but Excalibur's been relauched twice in recent years and been horrible reach time, so I guess they're 'resting the brand' until people stop associating the word 'Excalibur' with the ghastly versions Claremont just inflicted on us.

Annihilation's great isn't it! I'm a tradewaiter on that too, though I'm thinking of going monthly for Guardians of the Galaxy.

I'm betting the current series is leading into the Forgotten. There has been a growing undercurrent of trouble & some sort of consortium of beings out to do something to or with the Doctor. They said they were going to test him.
The other comic, which runs the old Dave Gibbons Who comics, may keep going, though. It's just reprints.

As a person with both Forbidden Planet and Travelling Man up the road I really should try and get into the comics. But where do you start?

Anything that features past Doctors though... well it sounds good to me.

By ignoring all these recent cash-ins and going for the trades of the good stuff. wink

The 'golden age' of the DWM strip is collected in The Iron Legion and Dragon's Claw(the Fourth Doctor strips), The Tides of Time (the Fifth Doctor strips) and Voyager (the Sixth Doctor strips).

There's something to be gained from reading them in order (Tides of Time in particular is even more of an insane psychadelic-Arthurian Epic if you've read the Fourth Doctor comics beforehand) but if you just fancy sampling one, make it the sixth Doctor collection. Even if you think you don't like the sixth Doctor, you'll like this sixth Doctor.

Oh, yes. Voyager was just plain weird and fun. And John Ridgeway's art was great. I like Tides of Time a lot too, though. biggrin
Get your Dad to order the IDW comics for you, Roobarb!

The info on wikipedia says that 'Forgotten' is a 6 issue limited series coming out mid 2008. Six issues is pretty standard for a tpb, so I would think it's almost certain one will be released (unless the comic bombs). The artist, Pia Guerra, sounded familiar, but I couldn't place the name. Turns out she was the artist on Y: The Last Man. Never read the comic, but I did thumb through it once (because I liked author Brian K. Vaughan's work on Runaways). The art was solid, but not very flashy. She's probably a good match for a Doctor Who comic.

Incidentally, Pia Guerra has a blog: http://hellkitten.blogspot.com/
Mostly her talking about random stuff, though she does have (at the moment) two Who-related entries. One details how Tony Lee snagged her for the project, and the more recent one is her reaction to the supposed comment that RTD had upon hearing that IDW was doing a story with all ten Doctors (which apparently was "Let them hang themselves. It can't be done.").

Yep, I love it. I've always been a big fan of Marvel's cosmic stuff, thanks mainly to the Englehart and Starlin runs on Silver Surfer. I thought the Starlord segment of Annihilation: Conquest was pretty good, so I'm fairly optimistic about the new Guardians of the Galaxy. Any comic with Adam Warlock, Mantis and Rocket Raccoon is bound to be awesome...
